CPI(ML) to form federation for retail traders & vendors
Patna: The CPI(ML) has decided to organise retail traders and vendors in various cities in the state and form a state-level federation to raise their demands with the govt.
"This initiative was taken by the party's Ara MP Sudama Prasad.
He earlier formed a district-level body in Bhojpur and has now decided to expand it to the state level," said a CPI(ML) functionary.
On Sunday, Prasad held a meeting in Patna attended by around 200 retail traders and vendors from 24 districts. According to a party communiqué, he told participants that a strong organisation was needed to take up their problems with the govt and administration.
"First, the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in 2016 and then the Covid pandemic broke the backbone of retailers and vendors," Prasad said.
He cited rising prices, reduced purchasing power, unemployment and the spread of online shopping as key challenges. He also pointed to increased criminal activity and insecurity in marketplaces.
A state-level meeting will be held in Patna next month to formally launch the Vyavsaee Mahasangh (state traders' federation).
The CPI(ML) began efforts to organise traders after the pandemic. "The first unit was formed in Ara. Now, the state body will be set up with a focus on demanding a traders' protection commission," the functionary said.

Project worth Rs700 crore to help Kanpur turn into electric vehicles manufacturing hub
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh govt is set to establish Kanpur as a major hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. Under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision-2030, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will develop a cutting-edge EV park over 500 acres near Bhimsen, along the Dedicated Freight Corridor. The initiative by the Yogi Adityanath govt is also a significant step toward promoting clean energy and environmental conservation, said an official. With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, the project will be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is poised to position Kanpur as a key player in India's EV ecosystem, the official added. The primary objective of the EV park is to strengthen the local supply chain for electric vehicles and promote indigenous manufacturing. The park will house units for manufacturing electric motors, chassis, steel parts, and lithium-ion cells. Facilities for assembling lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and electronic components will also be established. A dedicated research and development (R&D) centre will be a vital part of the project, driving innovation and facilitating advanced product development. This R&D unit is expected to contribute not only to local progress but also to the global advancement of EV technologies. The establishment of the EV park will not only position Kanpur as an EV manufacturing hub but will also significantly boost the state's economy. Alongside the park, an integrated EV components cluster is being developed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in producing parts and components. This will create fresh opportunities for local entrepreneurs and startups, and generate substantial employment. Its proximity to the DFCC corridor gives the park a strategic advantage in terms of logistics and connectivity. Well-connected by rail and road networks, it will facilitate smooth transportation of raw materials and finished goods. By accelerating EV production, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the adoption of sustainable energy sources. The EV park under the Kanpur Development Vision – 2030 will serve as a symbol of industrial innovation and progress, placing Kanpur prominently on the global electric vehicle manufacturing map.
