The app Google Messages replaced as default on Galaxy phones might offer a life-saving feature

Samsung Messages is no longer the default messaging app on Galaxy phones. Despite being demoted and losing its default status, Samsung Messenger is not being phased out by Sammy. In fact, while analyzing apk version 16.1.02.2 of Samsung Messages, Reddit user Adriaaaaaaanoooo discovered a couple of strings of code that indicate Samsung's desire to add an emergency satellite texting feature to the app.
The strings of code read:
satellite_network_mode title
samsung_message-only-support_sms_when-satellite-network-mode
Samsung Messages lost RCS support as Samsung started taking the necessary actions to phase out Samsung Messages in favor of Google Messages. While completely removing Samsung Messages from its handsets was never fully realized by Sammy, in the middle of last year the South Korean manufacturer removed the app from its foldable phones. But even though the company did decide to replace Samsung Messages with Google Messages as its default messaging app, Samsung apparently wants to keep it alive. Samsung is even working on other new features for its Messaging app including:
Birthday reminders
Emoji reactions
Live location sharing
Now Brief support
Sticker reactions The ability to send emergency text messages by satellite is a feature offered by multiple U.S. carriers. Those on T-Mobile's highest-priced plans have the T-Satellite feature added to their service for free while those on less expensive plans or using other wireless providers can pay monthly for the service. Verizon has a similar service available on a limited number of devices. Verizon subscribers packing an eligible device do not have to pay for the service which gives them the ability to send an emergency text by satellite in areas with no cellular connectivity. Apple also offers Emergency SOS via Satellite on iPhone 14 and later models; it is supported by all three major U.S. carriers and is free for two years after the activation of a new iPhone 14 and later. Since the release of iOS 18, this feature is now available to send and receive text messages with friends and family when cellular service in unavailable.
Samsung could decide to eventually make Samsung Messages the default messaging app on Galaxy devices once again. And this time it could have the ability to get you out of a jam even if you're stuck in an area that doesn't have any cellular service. If you have a Galaxy device, you can install Samsung Messages from the Galaxy Store by clicking on this link.

Personally, I think the iPhone 17 Pro looks great, and it'll actually be an iPhone that 'we think you're going to love'

*Image credit — Fpt. The redesign for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro has pretty much been set in stone, as numerous leaks and images have surfaced over the past few months. However, the reception across online circles has been quite mixed, with some people having said some very unkind words about Apple's new flagship phone. I, too, think that Apple is making a mistake, at least to an extent. The iPhone has had a very distinct look for many years, and the new design may lead to people confusing it for a Pixel phone from afar. This would especially be true for the iPhone 17 Air, in my opinion, as it features a slim, elongated rear camera island much like the Google Pixel 9. But, the negative reviews online for a phone that isn't even out yet are, in my eyes, a bit unwarranted. Apple is entering an era of actual innovation, as the foldable iPhone, the iPhone 18, and the iPhone 20 Pro all promise excellent new changes. And the iPhone 17 Pro will kick off that era with some excellent decisions being made by the company. Here's why I think the new iPhone 17 Pro is not only a looker, but the first iPhone in years that isn't just a marginal upgrade. iPhone 17 Pro will shake things up. | Image credit — Majin Bu You see, the thing is, the new iPhone 17 Pro isn't different just for the sake of being so, it has actual advantages that come with its redesign. For starters, the iPhone 17 Pro has better antenna placement, as Apple is moving that to wrap around the bigger rear camera island. This means better coverage as the antenna will be less likely to be covered by your hands or a phone case. The larger rear island also means that the lenses, the flash, and the sensor can be spaced apart better. While it's not necessarily confirmed, some people allege that this will lead to better photography and video quality, especially if the flash is being used. They've argued that the flash won't interfere with the cameras as much, and Apple can allow more light in as a result. Lastly, and most importantly for me, the iPhone 17 Pro is getting thicker instead of being slimmed down even further. This is because Samsung and Apple are diverging in how they approach their flagships moving forward. While the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will become even thinner — and retain the 5,000 mAh battery — the iPhone 17 Pro will opt for a larger battery than its predecessor instead. Coupled with the new AI-powered battery management found in iOS 26, Apple may actually deliver a phone that outlasts it competition handily this year, literally speaking. Come on, it's not as bad as everyone's making it out to be! | Image credit — Setsuna Digital Now, here's the really contentious part, I genuinely think that the iPhone 17 Pro looks pretty great. As more and more details have come out, and its renders have improved, it's begun to look a lot better than it did a few months back. I also think that it'll look even better in person than it does in the images. The iPhone has had the same look for so long, it was time for change. In my opinion, and feel free to disagree, the new iPhone 17 Pro looks like a very modern phone. I can easily see this becoming a fan favorite down the line. Also, it's not like it's losing its identity: the iconic triple-camera setup remains atop the larger rear island. And, before you point it out yet again, yes: I'm aware that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra had a similar design all the way back in 2021. The iPhone 17 Pro is in no way a phone with a unique design that has never been seen before, but it still looks like it definitely belongs in 2025. Apple is also trying new things to spice up the redesign. My favorite piece of news in recent days has been about a Liquid Glass color option for the iPhone 17 Pro. Apparently, that color option will make the Pro models reflect in various ways under different lighting conditions, and that just sounds brilliant. And, of course, we can't forget the hardware improvements being made this year. I've mentioned the larger battery, but what I haven't talked about yet is the increased RAM and improved displays. All iPhone 17 models will have 120 Hz LTPO screens ( ProMotion, as Apple calls it ), and almost all of them will have 12 GB of RAM. In fact, if the supply chain cooperates, then all of them will have more RAM. So, if CEO Tim Cook takes the stage this year and says that Apple has an iPhone that he's sure we're going to love, I'll feel more inclined to believe him than I have in years.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 vs Apple iPad Air 11" M3: Main differences to expect

Samsung is about to announce and release the Galaxy Tab S11 lineup very soon, and it will once again consist of two devices. Last year, we got the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, but this year, Samsung is shaking things up once again and will only release a Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S11, skipping the Plus model. Judging from the leaked specs and features, there won't be that many changes in comparison with the previous Galaxy Tab S tablet that was released. One way or another, the S Pen is coming back to a compact Galaxy tablet near you. How will the upcoming device compare with Apple's iPad Air, the overkill one with the M3 chipset on deck? Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 vs Apple iPad Air M3 differences explained: Table of Contents: Samsung and Apple are both playing it extremely safe with their regular tablets, without any major risks or experiments going on. The Galaxy Tab S11 will look exactly like the Galaxy Tab S9 or a slightly smaller Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, if you will. A fairly thin aluminum slate with compact dimensions and the trendy flat design language, the Galaxy Tab S11 is an unmistakable Galaxy tablet. The iPad Air M3 is even more conservative when it comes to design and simply exudes that Apple style. It will boast slightly thicker bezels, which doesn't really feel premium when you compare it with other Galaxy Tablets or more premium iPads. In terms of size, dimensions have leaked for the Galaxy Tab S11. The device will measure 253.8 × 165.3 × 5.5 mm and weigh 482 grams. At the same time, the iPad Air measures 247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm and weighs 460 grams. The iPad is obviously the more squarish device, while the Galaxy Tab S11 will be wider yet shorter. The Galaxy Tab S11 will boast an 11-inch screen with a 2560 x 1600-pixel resolution, working out to a 16:10 aspect ratio. It's a Dynamic AMOLED screen that can go up to 120Hz for the smoothest experience. Meanwhile, the iPad Air M3 comes with an IPS LCD screen, only capable of going to 60Hz. That's definitely the weakest part of this tablet, and sadly, it's one of the most important ones, so it's definitely a compromise. The iPad Air is also available in a 13-inch version. In terms of colors, the Galaxy Tab S11 will come in two fairly boring colors, Gray and Silver. The iPad Air M3, on the other hand, arrives in Space Gray, Starlight, Purple, and Blue, a decidedly more intriguing combination. The Galaxy Tab S11 will come with an S Pen stylus included in the box, just like most of its predecessors. The Apple iPad Air M3 supports both the Apple Pencil with USB-C and the Apple Pencil Pro. None of those are available in the box, though, so you will have to purchase them separately. In terms of keyboards, the Apple tablet supports the new Magic Keyboard that was released alongside that tablet. We are certain the Galaxy Tab S11 will be compatible with its Book Cover Keyboard line. The Galaxy Tab S11 is coming with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, which is a 3nm chipset that will certainly improve the overall performance and efficiency here. However, there's no denying that the iPad Air will always come out on top, given that it comes with the laptop-grade M3 chip, which is a total overkill for such upper mid-range devices as the iPad Air M3. The Galaxy Tab S11 will arrive with 12GB of RAM, which should be more than enough for snappy multitasking and all the AI features you might need on board. Samsung is once again putting 128, 256, or 512GB of storage inside, allowing you to pick your desired storage configuration. We don't know if the device will boast a microSD card slot. The iPad Air, on the other hand, comes with 8GB of RAM but comes with more diversity in terms of storage. The device is available with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. Software The Galaxy Tab S11 will come with Android 15 and One UI 7, but we might see Android 16 and One UI 8 instead. The device will definitely be supported for up to seven years from release and will definitely come with full Galaxy AI support on board. Meanwhile, the iPad currently runs iPadOS 18 with full Apple Intelligence support, but next month Apple will release iPadOS 26 with the major Liquid Glass redesign. Apple usually supports its devices for six to seven years, so you will be set until the end of the decade and beyond that. The Galaxy Tab S11 will come with an 8,400 mAh battery, the same one as the previous Galaxy Tab S9 tablet came along with. Meanwhile, the iPad Air M3 comes with a 7,606 mAh battery. In our tests, it delivers average battery life, which should be more than enough for regular usage. The Galaxy Tab S11 will feature 45W wired charging, which is plenty fast for a Samsung device. The iPad only supports up to 20W wired charging, which will delivers slower charging, all things considered. Both the iPad Air M3 and the Galaxy Tab S11 come with single cameras. That's normal for tablets, which aren't the type of devices that you should reach out for when you wish to take a photo. The Galaxy Tab S11 will feature a 13MP camera, while the iPad Air M3 boasts a 12MP one. At the front, both have 12MP snappers for video calls. Well, the Galaxy Tab S11 will give you the more flexible Android experience, as well as Samsung's very decent One UI. Add the included S Pen, and you're looking at a fairly impressive compact tablet. Meanwhile, the iPad Air M3 boasts exceptional performance thanks to the M3 chip, one that will definitely leave the Galaxy Tab S11 in the proverbial dust. Being an integral part of the Apple ecosystem also makes the iPad Air with the M3 chip a perfect choice for just about any invested Apple user.

iPhone 17 Pro reiterated to start with 256GB storage

Michail, 13 August 2025 Ever since the iPhone 12 Pro, Apple has persistently offered the same 128GB baseline storage. According to a report from last week, the iPhone 17 Pro is about to change that by doubling up to 256GB this year, and the same source has now doubled down on his claims. iPhone 17 Pro dummy units Weibo user Instant Digital is confident that Apple will upgrade the base storage on its upcoming small iPhone Pro. The device is expected to get a $50 price hike as a result, which means it should start at $1,049. It remains to be seen if the price hike will be proportional in other regions. Source (in Chinese)
