Fish & Wildlife announces statewide Summer Free Fishing Day this June
MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Vermonters are grabbing their fishing rods and tackle boxes in anticipation for the Summer Free Fishing Day this June 14.
This event also lands on the opening day of regular bass season and the Grand Isle Family Fishing Festival, where free fishing day will be celebrated.
Fish and Wildlife Interim Commissioner Andrea Shortsleeve said that 'Free Fishing Day is a great opportunity for an experienced angler to be a mentor to friends who have not gone fishing before. A day on the water could lead to a lifetime of great experiences and healthy local food.'
VTF&W will supply reels, fishing rods and more. Other activities like lure making and basic fishing instruction will also be available. 'No prior fishing experience is needed,' according to Fish & Wildlife officials.
The festival and free fishing day celebration is set to run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station.

Marlin ISD accepts superintendent's resignation
Marlin, Tx (FOX44) – In a special Tuesday night board meeting, Marlin ISD trustees voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Darryl J. Henson. Dr. Henson leaves Marlin ISD after five years of what the board termed ' transformative' leadership, having come at a time when the district was having what the board called 'significnt challenges.' The resignation will be effective September 1. Board members praised him for achieving monumental improvement not only in academics but in athletics and bringing about improvement in district facilities. Dr Henson said he believed with the successful completion of the district's strategic plan, Vision 2025, he believes now is the right moment for new leadership to advance the district's vision. A board statement said Dr. Henson will serve in an advisory role to the Board and the newly hired Superintendent through the 2025-26 school year, supporting a seamless transition of leadership. 'It has been an honor to serve the Marlin community as their Superintendent and I'm proud of what we've accomplished together,' Dr. Henson said. 'Marlin ISD is on a strong path forward and I look forward to watching the district continue to thrive.' 'Dr. Henson`s dedication has revived our schools, energized our community, and positioned us for sustained success,' said Marlin ISD Board President Billy Johnson. Keeseville opens new waterfront park in ceremony June 4
AU SABLE, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – The hamlet of Keeseville, which lies directly on the line between Essex and Clinton Counties in New York, announced Tuesday that the new Keeseville Waterfront Park on Ausable Street will open to the public at 10:00 a.m. on June 4. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include light refreshments. Plattsburgh town supervisor says mausoleum was vandalized The park sites on the site of on old mill, known as the Red Mill, owned by Prescott and Sons which, according to the Radiomuseum website, employed more than a hundred people in Keeseville in 1864 during the Civil War and later made products that included cabinets for early radios. The mill had been vacant for years before the Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), a non-profit organization with the goal of preserving old and historic buildings in the region, bought the site in 2018. The park will include a playground, picnic area, pedestrian path, and interpretive signs. According to AARCH, the project's $700,000 budget was not enough to fill in the foundation and basement of the old Red Mill, but they hope that a continuation of the project will allow it to eventually happen. Controversial bills face end-of-session push in NYS AARCH director Erin Tobin said, 'The Keeseville Waterfront Park represents a true community effort that honors Keeseville's industrial past while creating a vibrant public place for its future.'
