Google confirms plans to merge ChromeOS into Android

This is not the first time we've heard about Google's plan to merge Chrome OS into Android, but there was no official confirmation from Google previously. Android has been gaining specific features for large screens, including a dedicated desktop mode, enhanced windowing capabilities, and improved scaling for different screen sizes.
A previous report suggested that Google's aim with the move is to become more competitive with Apple's iPad. This would allow users to get more work done on Android tablets. Google is also rumored to be working on a Pixel laptop, which would help it expand its product ecosystem even further.

Some of the GSMArena Android app users encountered a bug, do this if you are affected
TL;DR: Our mobile app started experiencing issues earlier this month. The bug was caused by a beta version of the Android System WebView component. This has been fixed in the latest version released by Google on the Play Store, v139.0.7258.51 from July 23. You can download it from this link. The first reports of the issues came after Android's July 2025 Google System Update. For a limited number of users, our mobile app did not display content in portrait mode (although it did work in landscape orientation). We reported the bug to Google, which promptly released a fixed version of the component. If you have been having this issue, you can download the latest beta version manually from the link above. This is what some of our users saw with the bugged WebView beta If you don't see an 'Update' button, try uninstalling the component first then reinstalling it – that should install the latest version. If you just uninstall the beta version, then you will temporarily be running the stable version instead. This won't prevent future beta versions from being installed automatically, though, as you will still be enrolled in the beta channel. You may want to opt out of the beta channel for the WebView component to avoid running into future bugs like this one – especially if you signed up for it accidentally (as we understand some of our users did). Opting out can be done using this link (you should see a screen like the one above). Note: users who were not running the WebView beta were not affected and don't need to do anything. Also, this is not related to the beta version of the GSMArena app.

Google Maps will strip down part of its social features
Google Maps is one of the best tools for discovering and reaching new places, but the app offers much more than simple navigation. However, Google plans to kill off one of its social features in the coming months, so you'll have one less follower count to worry about. Yes, Google Maps is losing its follow feature.A new community support post outlines the changes to the Google Maps follow feature. Google says the feature will be gone by September 2025, so you won't be able to follow anyone, nor will other users be able to follow you on the app. You don't need to do anything as the update will be automatic. Google makes it clear that the changes won't impact the visibility of the profiles. You won't need to approve or reject followers anymore, and you can still control who can find your contributions. If you're still looking to socialize in an environment similar to Google Maps, the company says the Local Guides Connect community is still available. There you can find discussions and even some local community of the best social features of the app is the lists, which you can share or invite other people to contribute to and add notes about the places they save. Google says that the feature will remain unchanged. If you still want to keep the information about your followers intact, you need to do it before the feature is gone. Google says it will wipe out all the data related to followers, but you can still check who follows you and who you're following: Open the Google Maps app Tap on your profile picture or initial Tap on Your Profile Tap on Followers or Following Apparently, Google doesn't like its users using a follow feature on Google Maps. Last month, an APK teardown of the Android version of the app revealed that the company might phase out the Followed Places feature. I never paid attention to the follow feature on Google Maps, and I won't miss it. I follow some of my friends on Google Maps, and some of my friends follow me, but I am much more invested in the lists feature. I have a few shared lists with some friends, and we often add new places we like. As long as that feature stays intact, I don't need a more social Google Maps.

The Pixel Watch 4 appears to have new colors and bands in newly leaked renders

The newly leaked set of images follows similar leaks, which revealed the colors the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, including one by Google new set of images, leaked by Android Headlines, shows the Pixel Watch 4 in what appear to be official renders. If those images are real, we can safely assume that Google's upcoming wearable won't be much of a visual case of the device is very similar to last year's, and the colors might be one of the most significant visual differences. The renders show the following band options and their colors: Active Band in Obsidian, Porcelain, and Moonstone colors Sport Band in Indigo, Iris, and Limoncello colors While we see only a few of the options, both bands might be available in many other colors when released. The Active bands may also be made of a new material, which should make them more comfortable. According to reports, the Active Sport band will feature a much wider range of available colors. Similar to last year, the Stretch Band may be only available for the smaller Pixel Watch 4 model. Previous rumors suggested the Pixel Watch 4 would have slimmer bezels, but in the new images, they appear unchanged. That's why we can safely assume that any difference, if there's one, will be minimal. There will be four colors for the case of the Pixel Watch 4 : Most changes to the Pixel 4 Watch won't be related to the design. The watch is rumored to have a redesigned side-mounted charging system, featuring the third different charger in four generations of Google watches. The device may also have a bigger and faster-charging battery, which would be a welcome upgrade. Google will face stiff competition with the Pixel Watch 4 . Samsung has just released the Galaxy Watch 8, and Apple will likely release the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 in September. Google is expected to launch the Pixel Watch 4 alongside the Pixel 10 series on August 20. I expect the Pixel Watch 4 to be one of the pleasant surprises in the wearables world this fall. Google appears to be focused on improving the device's internals by adding faster charging, a larger battery, and various new features. That's always a good way to win fans, which can serve as an excuse for not doing much in terms of a visual refresh.
