'It's extremely frustrating to witness this in my neighborhood,' Karim expressed. 'I find myself cleaning the streets regularly, but the dirt keeps getting blown against my gate, which jams it continuously. The rat and fly infestations are the worst part.'

To combat the illegal dumping, Karim has taken matters into his own hands. He has been cleaning the streets himself and even hiring workers to assist him weekly. 'I take the rubbish to the dump across the road,' he said. Despite his efforts, he faces constant challenges, as people continue to dump waste even while he is cleaning. 'I've sent emails to my councillors and contacted the Pickitup illegal dumping hotline, but their emails bounce back, and I receive no response to my WhatsApp messages.'
Karim noted that illegal dumping has only become a significant issue since the illegal rooms were erected next door. 'Others see the rubbish and start dumping there too, right across from my house,' he explained. He has reached out to officials, including Kyle Jacobs and the JMPD's Zezasi illegal dumping initiative, but feels that little has been done to address the situation.

The trio appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday. The case relates to a viral video in which a four-year-old boy was seen smoking substances believed to be drugs alongside adults. Gauteng regional spokesperson for the NPA, Phindi Mjonondwane, said a Facebook account unlawfully streamed the proceedings live, and revealed the faces of the accused people, in direct violation of a court order explicitly prohibiting such exposure. 'It is important to note that the victim in this matter is a minor, whose identity and rights are protected under the Child Justice Act. Sharing or distributing any content that could expose the child's identity not only violates the law but also endangers the child's safety and dignity,' said Mjonondwane. 'The NPA strongly condemns this conduct and calls on the account holder to remove the video immediately. 'Members of the public are also urged to refrain from sharing or engaging with such content and to respect the authority of the court and the rights of the child involved,' she said. The NPA said it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of vulnerable members of society, especially children. On Thursday, IOL reported that four people appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court, facing charges including child abuse, after a distressing video showing a toddler smoking a mandrax-laced pipe went viral. The four people, including the mother of the four-year-old boy, were remanded in custody until Monday next week. The four have also been charged with attempted murder for forcing the minor to inhale the drugs. Community members and political party officials gathered outside the court, condemning the actions of the four accused. On Wednesday, IOL reported that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) arrested the accused people. The video went viral, leading to a tip-off, which led to the arrests. Police investigating death of domestic worker hit by bakkie in Northcliff
Northcliff residents have complained many times about reckless driving on that road. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko has confirmed a culpable homicide case is being investigated following the death of a domestic worker in Northcliff. This after Sophie Tlhako was killed on 14 July while on her way to work. The domestic worker was allegedly run over by a bakkie on a service road in broad daylight. Domestic worker hit by bakkie in Northcliff Northcliff resident Jasmyn Marais said Tlhako was allegedly run over by a Drain Surgeon bakkie. Marais said she knew something was wrong when Tlhako, who has been working for the family for more than four years, didn't pitch up for work that Monday morning. 'When they phoned her, a police officer answered the phone. We then knew something was wrong,' she said. 'Apparently, the driver bumped Tlhako from behind and drove over her before crashing into a wall.' Drain Surgeon disputes claims The Northcliff resident said they have heard claims that the driver of the bakkie not only didn't have a driving licence, but is also an illegal foreigner. However, Drain Surgeon CFO Mark Pratt denied the allegations and said the driver's documents are all in order, adding that the incident was not a hit-and-run and that the driver co-operated with the police. 'Drain Surgeon is deeply saddened by the incident, and our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends. This truly is a terrible situation,' he said. Police dismiss social media reports claiming kidnapped Pretoria farmer found dead
The SAPS has dismissed social media rumours claiming that prominent farmer and businessman Jerry Boshoga has been found dead. The Witness reports that Boshoga (46), from Silver Lakes in Pretoria, was kidnapped in Centurion in November last year. His abductors initially demanded R25m in ransom, later lowering the demand to R10m. Since his disappearance, the family has received disturbing videos allegedly showing Boshoga being assaulted and pleading for his life. In one of the videos, Boshoga, clearly injured and with a cloth stuffed in his mouth, is heard appealing to his mother: 'Please pay, pay now so they can release me. It is too bad. I really need you. Please pay everything they want, I am begging you…' In another recording, he begs his wife to ask his father to raise the money. The footage sparked widespread concern and led to a national outcry for his safe return. Yesterday, posts began circulating on social media claiming that Boshoga had been found dead. SAPS has labelled these reports as false and irresponsible. Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, saying the investigation is ongoing and at a 'very sensitive stage'. 'The SAPS can confirm that the businessman has not been found alive or deceased. These unverified social media claims are misleading and have caused unnecessary trauma, panic and anxiety to his mother, wife and children.' She confirmed that police remain in close contact with the Boshoga family, who will be informed of any developments first by the investigating team. Boshoga was last seen in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, after telling family he was meeting someone. When his brother could not reach him later that day, a WhatsApp message from an unknown number was sent to Boshoga's wife, along with a voice note in which he said: 'I've been kidnapped.' Mathe has called for responsible social media engagement, particularly in sensitive cases such as kidnappings, where misinformation can worsen the suffering of families involved.
