Kentucky eliminates regional host and 11th overall seed Clemson with 16-4 romp
The Wildcats (31-25) need to beat West Virginia (43-14) Sunday night and again on Monday to advance.
Clemson, which has never won the College World Series in 12 appearances and was aiming for its first trip there since 2010, used a wild pitch and a groundout to grab a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Kentucky answered with two unearned runs in its half to tie it.
The Wildcats took the lead for good when Cole Hage singled leading off the third before scoring on a wild pitch. Carson Hansen added an RBI single, and Ryan Schwartz's two-run single made it 7-2.
Luke Lawrence and Hage had two straight RBI doubles to ignite the big fourth inning and the rout was on.
Hansen finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Schwartz had two hits and drove in four.
Wildcats starter Nate Harris (5-2) allowed three runs on six hits and four walks in six innings.
Tigers starter Talan Bell (0-2) gave up six runs — five earned — in 2 1/3 innings. Jarren Purify went 4 for 4.
Clemson finishes 45-18.

Travis d'Arnaud doubled to drive in Yoán Moncada in the second for the Angels. Zach Neto homered after Bryce Teodosio walked on four pitches to lead off the fifth to trim their deficit to 4-3. ATLANTA (AP) — Kendell Brooks scored on a 53-yard interception return and rookie quarterback Cameron Ward had mixed results as the Tennessee Titans beat the Atlanta Falcons 23-20 in a preseason game Friday night. Joey Slye's 23-yard field goal with 9:03 remaining gave Tennessee (1-1) the lead. Falcons backup quarterback Emory Jones was stopped on a fourth-down run near the Tennessee 20 with 2:57 remaining. Jones was shaken up on the hit by linebacker Amari Burney and cornerback Jemari Harris. Jones walked off the field with assistance. Ward played three series and completed 2 of 7 passes for 42 yards. Ward's highlight was a 35-yard completion to Elic Ayomanor on the Titans' opening series. Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft, had another long pass dropped by Van Jefferson. Betts' sacrifice fly and Hernández's homer lift Dodgers over Padres for tie in NL West
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mookie Betts had a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the third inning, Teoscar Hernández homered and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat San Diego 3-2 on Friday night to tie the Padres atop the NL West. After three straight hits to open the third, the Dodgers tied it at 1 when Shohei Ohtani grounded into a fielder's choice to second that scored Michael Conforto. Betts' sacrifice fly scored Alex Freeland before Ohtani was caught stealing to end the inning.
