Updated USA TODAY Sports college baseball coaches poll
As conference races tighten up and the regular season winds down, the May 12 edition of the USA TODAY Sports College Baseball Coaches Poll has seen many changes from this past week's action, including a major shakeup at the top of the rankings.
LSU moved up three spots to the top national position as the Tigers took two out of three games against Arkansas. The Tigers replace Texas, which slipped to No. 3 after losing two out of three games against Florida.
Florida State rose one spot to No. 2 following a series win over California, and Arkansas dipped three spots to No. 5.
The largest jump in this week's poll belonged to the Gators, who soared 11 spots from unranked to the No. 21 position. Duke's leap in the polls was not too far behind as the Blue Devils moved nine spots to No. 24 thanks to a series win over now-No. 13 Clemson.
Inversely, Oklahoma suffered the largest fall in the polls as the Sooners dropped completely out of the Top 25 after being swept by Kentucky.
For the Big Ten, Oregon remained at No. 7 with a series sweep of Washington, while UCLA rose two spots to No. 15 after sweeping Illinois.
Following a series loss against now-No. 10 Oregon State that included a rare tie on Sunday, Iowa baseball (37-17-1, 21-6) dropped further the receiving votes category as the Hawkeyes now only hold six votes compared to their 19 from last week.
Iowa will have its best opportunity of the season to jump into the Top 25 this week as they host No. 7 Oregon for a three-game series from Duane Banks Field on Thursday. If the Hawkeyes win at least two games over the Ducks, Iowa will clinch their first conference regular-season title since 1990.
Iowa is amongst 18 other programs also vying for recognition, so a series victory over Oregon coupled with a Big Ten regular-season crown could possibly be enough to vault the Hawkeyes into the Top 25.

D'Andre Swift shares first impression of Bears rookie Kyle Monangai
D'Andre Swift shares first impression of Bears rookie Kyle Monangai The Chicago Bears didn't make any major moves at running back this offseason, with the only addition coming with the selection of Kyle Monangai out of Rutgers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft. Adding Monangai to the running back room, which will feature new position coach Eric Bieniemy, brings plenty of eyes and attention to every running back on the roster, especially D'Andre Swift. In what many, including himself, felt was a disappointing 2024 season, Swift not only vows to bounce back, but is also ready to be a mentor for his rookie teammate. Swift had high praise for Monangai, a two-time All-Big Ten selection in 2023 and 2024, and what he's done so far this offseason. "Real good, really good. Really excited for him," Swift said. "Very talented, very talented. He's cool, and he's from Jersey. I'm from Philly, he's from Jersey, so close. But he's been really good so far, excited for him." While there could be an opportunity to crack into the rotation as a rookie, it's equally as important to see the veteran Swift speak highly of him early in the offseason program. With Swift, Roschon Johnson, and Monangai, head coach Ben Johnson will have plenty of options and opportunities to utilize all three backs, who all have a different style of play and running ability. It's hard for Bo Nix to explain how big this factor is in 2025
It's hard for Bo Nix to explain how big this factor is in 2025 Bo Nix hasn't had this kind of continuity since high school. For the first time since playing prep football in Pinson, Alabama, in 2018, Nix is approaching a football season with the same play caller from his previous season. Yes -- you read that right -- in three years at Auburn and two years at Oregon, Nix never had the same play caller in back-to-back seasons. That is set to change in 2025 as Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton -- the team's play caller -- is entering his third season with the club and second year with Nix as his QB. 'It's huge," Nix said after the first week of organized team activities. "It's kind of weird going back to the first install, it's not new verbiage and not new things. It made it a lot easier this year. Now, it was tough to learn it last year, but being in a system and getting right back to where we were, just being able to call plays and understanding what it's like — going longer than 365 days just hearing the same thing, I think it's going to be really beneficial. "Honestly, it felt weird because it hasn't been since high school. I'm just used to learning different things, so it's good not to have to learn an entire new system this year and have the same play caller and have the same quarterback coach. [Also], the same guys you're throwing it to. The same center and the same [offensive] line. Being the same, it's going to be — it's hard to even explain. You're going to see it in ways that you can't even understand. It's just a natural thing to go out there and just pick up right where you left off and not have to restart.' Payton said when Nix hears and then delivers plays in the huddle this year, they "run off his tongue," unlike last year when Payton had to repeat the plays for Nix. "It's just a lot different," the coach noted. Nix having familiarity with the offense -- and coaching staff -- going into Year 2 only increases the likelihood of the young QB taking a big leap in his second season. Stay tuned. It's almost Bo Time. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Purdue Boilermakers Football Preview 2025: Prediction, Win Total, Top 10 Players, Keys to the Season
2025 Purdue PreviewPurdue Offense BreakdownPurdue Defense Breakdown Purdue Boilermakers Key to the Season Get the passing game to defense will be far, far better, but it still won't be the 1985 Chicago Bears. Being slightly improved still won't be enough, and the offense will have to keep year's Purdue attack only threw for more than 220 yards four times, and all four times it went for 290 or more. Out of those four games, two went to overtime, one was the paycheck win over Indiana State, and the other was a good battle with Michigan State. Purdue Boilermakers Key Player TJ Lindsey, DT Jamarrion Harkless, and Marcus Moore, and Ian Jeffries, and all of the Purdue defensive tackles. Last year's crew wasn't awful, but everyone who wanted to hammer away with the ground game against this bunch, is a 6-3, 295-pound former good recruit for Auburn, but he only saw a little bit of time last year. The talent and upside are there, and the sooner he becomes the program's defensive anchor - if he's able to get there - the better. Purdue Boilermakers Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: CJ Nunnally IV, EDGE he's not the most talented player coming in, and other more important defenders need to step up, but no Purdue transfer has the proven was steady in his two seasons at Akron - he was fine against Ohio State, South Carolina, and Rutgers, along with his play in the MAC - making 121 tackles with 13 sacks and 26 tackles for loss. Top Transfer Out: Dillon Thieneman, S is one of the best players in college football who hasn't achieved a national spotlight, making 210 tackles, six picks - all the interceptions as a freshman - with nine broken up passes and seven tackles for loss. He'll be an All-Big Ten performer again, but now he'll be that at Oregon. Purdue Boilermakers Key Game Rutgers, Oct. 25Purdue should beat Ball State and Southern Illinois to get to 2-0, and every game the rest of the way will be a problem. Unlike last year, Purdue will be on the right side of the close games, but there won't be a ton of the end of October, Purdue should be as jelled as they're going to be.
