These questions, and more, are addressed by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad in the latest publication by Perdana Leadership Foundation, 'A Conversation with Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad: A Legacy of Leadership and Vision', officially launched on Monday, 19th May 2025, in Putrajaya.
Part of Perdana Leadership Foundation's ongoing Oral History Series in which conversations with past and present leaders are held, the publication presents the conversations between Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and two interviewers: Dato' Seri Dr Vaseehar Hassan, trustee of Perdana Leadership Foundation, and Mr Eddin Khoo, founder of PUSAKA.

JS Harusame Makes Port Call In Kuantan, Reflects Growing Japan-Malaysia Defence Ties
KUANTAN, June 9 (Bernama) -- The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), JS Harusame made a port call here as part of its deployment for counter-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. Commanded by Commander Makoto Ozawa, the vessel departed from Sasebo on June 1 with approximately 200 personnel onboard, including JMSDF sailors and members of the Japan Coast Guard. 'During this port call, we plan to engage in various exchange activities with the Royal Malaysian Navy,' said Ozawa in a statement today. This marks the fourth visit by JMSDF vessels to Malaysia this year, following their participation in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA). It is also the first visit to Kuantan by a JMSDF vessel since 2019. According to Ozawa, the government of Japan is actively promoting a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" to uphold an international order based on the rule of law. Ozawa said in this context, port visits and bilateral exercises with regional partners like Malaysia are seen as vital to furthering this vision and added that in 2024, the two nations launched their first bilateral exercise, MALPAN, and have already conducted two exercises. Additionally, Japan established the Official Security Assistance (OSA) framework in 2023, selecting Malaysia as one of the first four recipient countries. 'Japan will provide security equipment to Malaysia soon. Furthermore, there has been active exchange through study abroad, study visits, and seminars,' he added.

No plans to contest in any by-election after leaving Umno: Tengku Zafrul
Published on: Monday, June 09, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 09, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz ( pic ) today clarified that he has never considered contesting in any by-election, either at the parliament or state level, following his exit from Umno and his announcement of intent to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on May 30. In a statement posted on his social media today, Tengku Zafrul stressed that the possibility of running in a by-election was never part of his decision-making process when he chose to leave Umno. Advertisement 'I would like to make it clear that no discussion related to this matter ever took place, and it was not part of my consideration in making that decision. 'I strongly disagree with triggering by-elections without urgent necessity, as they consume both time and public funds,' he said. Addressing his resignation from Umno, Tengku Zafrul reiterated that it was a personal decision, made without external pressure. 'I acknowledge it was not an easy decision, but I carefully considered all views and opinions before arriving at it. Advertisement 'In a democratic society, every individual has the right to make personal choices. I deeply appreciate the feedback and reception to my decision,' he said. Tengku Zafrul also expressed his gratitude to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Umno Supreme Council, and especially the grassroots members in the Kota Raja division for their support during his time with the party. As for his Cabinet position, Tengku Zafrul said he would leave the matter entirely to the discretion of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'I am always ready to serve the country in any capacity. I left the corporate world with the intention to contribute, and as long as my service is needed, I will continue to give without necessarily holding any position,' he said. BUSINESS By Anas Abu Hassan KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian telecommunication companies (telcos) are advised to move beyond traditional tactics and design bold, digital-first strategies that resonate with today's discerning consumers to win in the mature and evolving domestic market, according to a study. A report from GrowthOps Asia noted that the nation's telecommunications industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by market convergence, the nationwide 5G rollout, regulatory shifts, and major infrastructure investments. The report, entitled "Winning in Malaysia's Mature Telco Market", revealed that the country's telco market is now highly saturated and competitive, with mobile connections exceeding 129 per cent of the population. 'We are at a pivotal moment in the telco market, where consumers are no longer just looking for connectivity - they want a single, inclusive provider that delivers a suite of services and meaningful value-adds. 'The players who pair innovative products with sharp, relevant go-to-market strategies will be the ones that win," said GrowthOps Malaysia general manager Chris Greenough in a statement to Bernama today. The report also stated that the market is polarised with CelcomDigi Bhd emerging as the dominant leader, holding an estimated 40 per cent market share following its 2022 merger, while Maxis Bhd is positioned as a premium provider, emphasising network quality and loyalty perks. In addition, a cluster of challengers like U Mobile Sdn Bhd and Unifi by Telekom Malaysia Bhd are competing aggressively on value and plan innovation. "Consumer perceptions revealed that while network quality and price remain key decision factors, sentiment towards loyalty rewards programs could create an industry-wide opportunity for differentiation.
