In a major joint operation by Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds, the CRPF, and Chhattisgarh police, three senior Maoist leaders were killed during an early morning gun battle in the Maredumilli forest region of East Godavari district on Wednesday. The deceased include Gajarla Ravi alias Uday, a central committee Member and secretary of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), Raavi Venkata Lakshmi Chaitanya alias Aruna, a special zonal committee member and east division secretary, and another cadre identified as Anju.advertisementThe encounter took place near Kintukuru village, between Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district.
According to police sources, the exchange of fire lasted for about 25 minutes after a group of 16 Maoists was spotted in the area. Security forces recovered three bodies from the site, and combing operations are currently underway as the remaining Maoists reportedly fled.Simultaneously, a parallel encounter was reported near the Chhattisgarh border in Sukma district, where two more Maoists were killed and two AK-47 rifles were recovered. Operations in that region are also ongoing.Gajarla Ravi, also known by aliases Uday, Ganesh, and Birusu, hailed from Velishala village in Bhupalapally district of Telangana. He was one of the highest-ranking Maoist leaders in the region and carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh. His involvement with the movement spanned nearly four decades. He had earlier participated in the 2004–05 peace talks with the then Andhra Pradesh government under Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, as part of the People's War Group.advertisementRavi was previously in charge of regions including Malkangiri, Koraput, and Srikakulam, and was known for his role in guerrilla warfare strategy and IED deployment. Despite being diabetic, he continued to lead jungle operations well into his late forties. As of early 2025, he was considered the top-ranking Maoist leader in the AOBSZC.Aruna, who was married to slain Central Committee member Chalapati, hailed from Karak Vani Palem in Visakhapatnam district. She carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh and played a prominent role in the Maoist women's wing and in military coordination. The bodies of the three deceased were recovered from the site. While police confirmed their identities, an official statement is awaited. Information about Maoist movement in the Maredumilli area had reportedly been received by police on Tuesday evening.A separate encounter was also reported from the forest area between Koyilagudem and Kittukuru villages in Rampachodavaram mandal. Details of that incident are awaited.Officials said the deaths of Ravi and Aruna mark a significant blow to the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), which is one of the active regional arms of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). Security forces say this operation has neutralised key leadership in the Andhra-Odisha-Chhattisgarh region.

From stock tips to astro tips! Sanjiv Bhasin turned astrologer before Sebi ban

Bhasin allegedly would buy stocks in advance, then plug them on national television and Telegram groups, leading to a spike in prices. Synopsis Sanjiv Bhasin, once a prominent stock market voice, turned to astrology on social media just months before SEBI barred him in a stock manipulation case. The regulator has accused Bhasin of front-running trades and misleading investors, ordering disgorgement of Rs 11.37 crore in alleged gains. In a bizarre turn of events, Sanjiv Bhasin, once a high-profile face of IIFL Securities and a household name among stock tip enthusiasts, had started dishing out astrology-based life advice on social media — just months before the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) barred him in a high-stakes pump-and-dump case. ADVERTISEMENT SEBI's ex-parte interim order, issued Tuesday, accuses Bhasin and 11 others of manipulating stock prices by front-running — buying shares ahead of his televised recommendations and selling them at a profit once the retail herd piled in. The regulator has ordered the disgorgement of Rs 11.37 crore in alleged ill-got gains. But before the crackdown came the cosmic twist. After SEBI conducted search and seizure operations at multiple locations linked to Bhasin in the National Capital Region on June 13–14, 2024, he quietly exited IIFL. Then came the reinvention: Bhasin resurfaced on social media not as a market veteran, but as a self-styled astrologer.'Mars to enter Leo tomorrow after almost 9 months, could be the big change you were looking forward to,' reads one of his more recent posts on X, where he commands a follower base of over 322,000. His X account is now labelled with titles like 'Market Guru, Mundane Astrology, Fate & Freewill, Sense & Sensibility.' Bhasin offers consultations on relationships, careers, and investments through the lens of planetary alignments. ADVERTISEMENT He even ventured into geopolitical clairvoyance, predicting civil unrest and splits in Pakistan by end-May based on its national horoscope. The forecast, obviously, didn't come Read | Sebi bars Sanjiv Bhasin and 11 others for alleged stock manipulation ADVERTISEMENT Back in the real world, SEBI's investigation paints a damning picture. The regulator uncovered WhatsApp chats and audio files that allegedly reveal Bhasin's modus operandi: he would buy stocks in advance, then plug them on national television and Telegram groups, leading to a spike in prices. Once retail investors jumped in, Bhasin would quickly exit, booking profits in a classic "buy today, sell tomorrow" strategy.'These trades prima facie show that Sanjiv Bhasin was not genuine about his recommendations,' SEBI said in the order. 'Investors would have invested their hard-earned money believing the advice to be research-backed, only to be deceived.' ADVERTISEMENT In perhaps its strongest rebuke in recent times, the regulator said, 'SEBI cannot remain a mute spectator when fraudulent and manipulative activities take place in the securities market by personalities who are actually revered… and have a huge following on social media platforms.'For now, the man who once moved stocks with his TV picks is watching Mars, not midcaps. But with SEBI's eye firmly trained on influencer-led manipulation, it's clear that no amount of astrological deflection will soften the consequences. Andhra Greyhounds kill Maoist central committee member Gajarla Ravi, 5th top leader killed this yr

Belonging to the Karimnagar district of Telangana, Uday was deemed the seniormost Maoist leader in the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border areas. He was also accused of hatching an assassination plot against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in 2003. Along with Uday, the Greyhounds also killed Raavi Venkata Chaitanya alias Aruna, a senior Maoist leader in the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and wife of slain CCM Chalapathi, who was killed at the start of the year in Gariaband. New Delhi: In another setback to the organisational strength of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), the Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds Wednesday killed a central committee member (CCM), Gajarla Ravi alias Uday in an encounter in the state's Alluri Sitharama Raju district. Sources in the Andhra Pradesh Police said that the exchange of fire erupted early morning Wednesday in the Devipatnam forest area under Maredumilli police circle of the Alluri Sitharama Raju, which borders Odisha's Malkangiri and Koraput districts. Sources added that Uday had first fled the Andhra-Odisha border region for Dandakaranya in 2022, but left the area following intensified operations by security forces in the region. 'He had returned from Dandakaranya to the AOBSZC in November 2024 and got trapped in an exchange of fire here,' an official said. Besides being a member of the Central Committee, the top decision-making body of the Maoists, Uday was also the secretary of the AOBSZC. While Uday is the fifth such central committee member target for the security forces in the Left Wing Extremism-affected states of the country, this is the first major success for the Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds in anti-Naxal operations this year. Weeks earlier in May, security forces had killed the general secretary of the Maoists, Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavarju, in an encounter in Abujmarh forest. With his death in the latest encounter, the top body of the CPI (Maoist) is left with only nine members—an all-time low for the banned outfit since its formation in September 2004, after a merger between CPIML People's War and the Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI). Earlier this month, the security forces killed CCM Sudhakar in an encounter around Indravati National Park area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. Before these encounters in Chhattisgarh, the security forces in Jharkhand had killed another CMM, Prayag Manjhi, in an encounter in Bokaro. Sources in the security establishment said that the latest encounter proves that the hold of Maoist outfits in different regions is weakening. 'Senior Maoist leaders are getting killed in Dandakaranya area, which used to be their stronghold, and the killing of Uday, who was a formidable face in the Andhra Odisha border region, weakened their organisation beyond repair,' an official in the security establishment told ThePrint.
