According to a release, the family said, 'James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it. We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character.'
Jones, who died in 2024, had previously announced he was stepping away from the role. But before he died, he signed off on archival voice recordings being used by young filmmakers, who plan to utilize artificial intelligence synthetic speech technology to recreate Jones' younger voice from his previous films for future Lucasfilm projects.
The company recurited the assistance of Respeecher, a Ukrainian startup that uses AI technology to craft new conversations from revitalized old voice recordings. Respeecher's relationship with Lucasfilm began with the Disney+ series 'The Book of Boba Fett,' for which they recreated the voice of young Luke Skywalker. The two also teamed for the voice performance of Darth Vader on the series 'Obi-Wan Kenobi.'
In the game, Darth Vader will be a boss in battle royale. 'Ask him all your pressing questions about the Force, the Galactic Empire… or you know, a good strat for the last Storm circle,' reads the official post on Fortnite's site. 'The Sith Lord has opinions.' It continued, 'Darth Vader wouldn't be nearly as sinister without the legendary performance of James Earl Jones, who voiced Vader in the 'Star Wars' films.'

However, the addition of Darth Vader has not come without glitches. Gamers have already created amusing video content with one gamer and Twitch streamer making the Dark Lord swear. A gamer called Loserthug has him saying 'Fuck.'
Darth Vader AI already accidentally swore & called Loserfruit a "Thug".. they'll hotfix this asap 😭😭pic.twitter.com/deDlqZOXpv

Epic Games was swift to respond and said they have 'pushed a hotfix immediately and this shouldn't happen again.'

Jaguars New Defender Found Out He Was Traded While Playing Fortnite
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Trades in the sports world can happen at any time, though the MLB takes the proverbial cake regarding players in a game being told they have been traded and having to leave immediately. That is not the case for the NFL, though players do find out at random times that they are moving to a new team. More news: Packers-Seahawks Joint Practice Erupts Into "Biggest Training Camp Fight Ever" That happened to defensive tackle Khalen Saunders, who found out that he was being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Saunders had gotten home hours after the New Orleans Saints played the Jaguars, only to find out he was being sent to the team he had just played. Wild: Former Saints DT Khalen Saunders was informed of his trade to the Jaguars while playing Fortnite. 'I was actually playing some Fortnite and I got a call from Coach Moore. We had just got done with the game against y'all. I got home and I was playing some Fortnite, and I got a call from Coach Moore. I told the guys in the party, 'Hold on real quick.' I muted the mic and took the call and he was like 'Just wanted to be the first one to tell you, you know the business of the game and stuff like that. You've been traded.'" When Saunders questioned head coach Kellen Moore about where he was traded, he was told the Jaguars. Saunders stated that he was upset at hearing the news, and was shocked at the team that Moore stated. Saunders added, "The team we just played?!" A player finding out they have been traded has to be jarring, but to be traded to the team that they just competed against must be even stranger. Saunders was sent to the Jaguars for offensive lineman Luke Fortner in a rare player-for-player trade swap. Saunders spent the first four seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and was then signed to a three-year deal with the Saints in 2023. Now, he gets a fresh start with the Jaguars. Through six seasons, Saunders has secured 181 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. For more on the Jaguars and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Fivio Foreign Says He ‘Can't Say a Nas Bar' Despite Them Having a Song Together
The Jim Jones vs. Nas debate—started by Capo himself—continues. On Sunday (Aug. 17), Jones debuted his new podcast, Artist 2 Artist, where he sat down with New York rapper Fivio Foreign. At one point, Jones brought up fellow New Yorker Nas, which prompted Fivio to share his own take on the venerated Queens artist. 'I'm not saying that the man is wack, he's not a legend,' Fivio said at around the 46:30 minute mark. 'I got a song with the n***a—I got a song on the album and the album got a Grammy. But I can't sit there and say a Nas bar to you or a song.' He then proceeded to name a song. 'I like 'One Mic,'' he said, referencing the 2001 Stillmatic album cut. 'I understand. That's what I want the people to know—but I can 'cause Nas was my era. … I came up fucking with Nas. I know the Nas shit. … But moving forward, I started a whole new era in a whole new genre and a generation of people. I just be doing me.' The discourse surrounding Capo and Nas began in late June, when Jones appeared on Fat Joe and Jadakiss' podcast and boasted about his achievements. 'They forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. ... Check my track record. Then check everybody else track record," he said. "If you want to go to the Billboard entries, pull up Nas' Billboard entries and pull up my Billboard entries." Jones, as a solo artist, has had two of his songs reach the Billboard Hot 100, one of which made it into the Top 10. Nas has 27 Hot 100 entries and two Top 10 hits — though in Jones' defense, Nas was a featured artist, not the primary one, on both of them, while Jones was the sole artist on his No. 5 hit, 2006's "We Fly High." Jones has nine albums that have charted on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while Nas has 24. Of Nas' entries on the album chart, 16 landed in the Top 10, and six reached No. 1. The Jim Jones/Nas debate continued days after the Dipset capo's initial statement. On Shannon Sharpe and Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson's podcast, Nightcap, Sharpe challenged Jones. 'Were you smoking when you said you were better than Nas?' Sharpe asked, which prompted Jones to declare that he's 'way more influential than Nas.' Jones was once again asked about the comparison on the BagFuel podcast, where he said he made Nas go 'viral.' Jones added, 'He's never been talked about like this ever in his life." As Fivio pointed out, he and ASAP Ferg appeared on Nas' song 'Spicy' from his 2020 album, King's Disease, which won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2021. Fivio also recently hopped on Jones' 2024 song, 'Cinema,' alongside Dyce Payso and Keen Streetz. Chreece celebrates a decade of endurance
Over the past 10 years, Chreece has evolved from a homegrown hip-hop festival to a celebrated local example of DIY endurance. Why it matters: The single-day music fest showcases and uplifts the Circle City's culture and creators. Driving the news: Chreece — an oft-mispronounced mashup of "cheers" and "peace" — returns to Fountain Square on Saturday across seven venues, featuring performances from over 70 artists. More than just a collection of shows, it's a block party that includes a vendor village, afterparties, producer battles, children's activities and more. It starts with DJing and beatmaking at Fountain Square Plaza, and each venue holds performances at various times throughout the day. Headliners include 81355, Smino, Mavi and Audrey Nuna. Flashback: Founded by musician Sean "Oreo" Jones, the inaugural event in August 2015 doubled as a fundraiser for nonprofit Musical Family Tree. The first headliner was critically acclaimed Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins. Chreece saw annual growth, reaching a high in 2019 with a sold-out festival headlined by Talib Kweli, Griselda Records and Fat Tony. Yes, but: The pandemic stopped the music for three summers. While the festival was on hold, Chreece launched the DJ Indiana Jones Scholarship in honor of Ron Miner, a local hip-hop legend and Chreece leader who died in 2020. The festival returned in 2023 with headliners 9th Wonder, Redveil, Kari Faux, Jordan Ward and Pink Siifu. For their resilience and impact, U.S. Rep. André Carson presented organizers Jones, Jane Sun Kim and Jay Brookinz with the Downtown Indy, Inc. Arts and Culture Visionaries award in 2024. What they're saying: "Chreece Festival has been at the pinnacle of Black culture, creativity, ingenuity and artistry — and is a way to highlight Indianapolis' growing creative community," Carson said in a statement. "It has become a right of passage for any artist wanting to express themselves in our great state." If you go: Chreece begins at noon, and tickets start at $60. Act fast, because it's approaching a sellout. Festival HQ is located at 1043 Virginia Ave. Go there to pick up wristbands, check in for volunteering, or rehydrate at the water station. HI-FI, HI-FI Annex, Square Cat Vinyl, Atomic Bowl, FTSQ Plaza and Wildfyre Tap will be all-ages venues. White Rabbit Cabaret will be 21 and up. What to know: Virginia Avenue, Woodlawn Avenue, St. Patrick Street and Shelby Street will be closed to traffic starting at 6am.
