Billie Jean King receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star for sports entertainment
Billie Jean King, the 12-time Grand Slam singles champion and a founding leader of the WTA Tour, has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles for her contributions to sports entertainment.
The 81-year-old is the first woman to receive the accolade in that category, which includes NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and the late actor and former NFL player Carl Weathers. King received the star on April 7, at a ceremony led by Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin 'Magic' Johnson.

'I may be the first woman to be awarded a star in this category, but I'm certainly not going to be the last,' King wrote in a post on X.
King, who won 39 Grand Slam titles overall, was fundamental to the awarding of equal prize money in tennis. Her work led to the U.S. Open becoming the first Grand Slam tournament to do it in 1973, the same year that she beat Bobby Riggs in the historic 'Battle of the Sexes' tennis showdown. In 1974, King created the Women's Sports Foundation, two years after Title IX banned sex discrimination in schools in the U.S.
She has since diversified her influence across multiple sports, investing in the NWSL's Angel City FC, the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks and MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers. She also lends her name to the Billie Jean King Cup, the international women's team tennis competition.

Trey McBride glad that he and George Kittle are helping tight end contracts grow
In early April, Arizona's Trey McBride signed a four-year, $76 million contract that made him the first tight end in NFL history to sign a deal averaging $19 million a year. In late April, 49ers tight end George Kittle signed a contract that averaged $19.1 million a year — thanks to an inflated final year structured specifically to make Kittle's annual average look better than McBride's. For his part, McBride is just happy to see tight ends getting paid, regardless of whether he or Kittle has the title of highest paid tight end in the NFL. Advertisement 'I think it was great that I had the title at one point and that was obviously a huge milestone for me and everything just to be the highest paid at my position at the time, and I thought that was really cool,' McBride told 'Obviously, George is much deserving of that and I'm very excited for him.' McBride is hoping some tight end is making $20 million a year soon. 'I would love for someone to jump him and everyone just keep jumping each other and the tight ends make a ton of money," McBride said. "So that's what I'm pulling for but obviously very excited for George.' Future tight ends who might break the $20 million a year mark include Sam LaPorta of the Lions, who will be eligible for his second contract in 2026, and Brock Bower of the Raiders, who will be eligible for his second contract in 2027.

Commanders hope to benefit from continuity on Dan Quinn's staff in 2025
What is one of the really bright spots for the Commanders this offseason? It's easy to always look to the draft and talk about the players selected in your team's draft. However, isn't every team optimistic this time of year, thinking (and hoping) that the players they have selected are a good fit for their team and that the improvement will show up this upcoming season? Commanders fans are certainly not immune to this. It is simply natural to hope so strongly in your team that you are optimistic about the about when you look at the coaches? Dan Quinn being selected as head coach certainly did not ignite the fan base with excitement. In fact, there was as much scrutiny as hopeful anticipation regarding Quinn. But that wasn't his fault. Fans unfairly brought up the 28-3 halftime lead the Falcons blew in the Super Bowl loss to the Patriots. But fans could have just as easily looked at the other side of the coin and been happy to have a coach who had led his team to a Super was also some skepticism regarding defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., who had not been a coordinator previously. The defense was suspect at best in many games last season. The Commanders' front office knew Whitt needs some studs, and moves like bringing in corner Marshon Lattimore, defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw, and the drafting of corner Trey Amos are expected to help Whitt's going unnoticed is that the Commanders bring back every single coach on Dan Quinn's staff from the 2024 season. I suppose someone could negatively respond that this is not necessarily a good thing. But yes, NFL teams were seeking to hire Kliff Kingsbury and David Blough this could be a big plus for the Commanders in terms of continuity and not needing to give time for a position coach to bring in his new schemes or unfamiliar language/vocabulary. It also points to the fact that the head coach of the Commanders, Dan Quinn, is skilled in how he relates to this staff. He is not simply their boss, though that is an important boundary to maintain. Quinn relates well enough that it appears each and every member of his staff wanted to return for means not only will the same coaches be in place this season, but they will also have the same roles they had in Quinn's first season in Washington. This is significant because coaches often remain but may or may not be as prepared for a different role when given that new everyone like to talk about how any move affects or helps Jayden Daniels, then having his entire offensive coaching staff return in the same roles for Daniels' second NFL season certainly looks to be a major blessing for Daniels, don't you think? This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders banking on continuity in 2025 season

Is Eagles Supporting Cast Ranking Damning for Super Bowl MVP?
Is Eagles Supporting Cast Ranking Damning for Super Bowl MVP? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts being disrespected around the league again? Even after winning a Super Bowl MVP trophy just last February? Advertisement It depends how you look at it. No quarterback has won more games in a four-year stretch than Hurts. He is the first signal-caller in team history to reach the Super Bowl twice, and has one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios as well. Some analysts believe that Hurts has something few quarterbacks in this league have. FOX Sports NFL reporter David Helman believes that the Eagles have the best supporting cast in the league. That's valid. Does it lessen Hurts' impact or what he should be credited for? "The top spot might be the easiest to figure out in this entire exercise," Helman said. "The Eagles return 10 of 11 starters from the unit that cruised to a Super Bowl have the best running back in football, an elite receiver duo, a quality tight end and the top offensive line in the game. Advertisement "Maybe there's some small cause for concern with the loss of playcaller Kellen Moore to the Saints — first-time OC Kevin Patullo has been on staff since 2021 — but there's too much talent here to lose sleep over it." All of that makes sense. But as some analysts struggle to judge Hurts as a quarterback - his numbers don't always pop like signal-callers such as Josh Allen or Dak Prescott or Lamar Jackson - all Hurts does is win. And so Philly's 'supporting cast' on offense is top-notch … but so is the QB star being 'supported.' Perhaps that is what they should be judged on … how they mesh. How they win. Advertisement And few quarterbacks in history have won at the pace that Hurts has set since he became a starter. Related: 'Kelce Genes Are Strong!'
