Police chief's daughter, 3, mauled to death by ex-drug sniffing dog at family home

A US police chief's daughter was tragically mauled to death by an ex-police K9 who was being housed at the family's property
A police chief's three-year-old daughter was mauled to death in a horrific attack by a former drug sniffing dog at home. The young girl was attacked by K-9 Draco at her family's house on Monday.

The child was found unresponsive by emergency services who rushed to the property within minutes of the brutal mauling in the small city of Burlington along the Colorado-Kansas border. The girl was the daughter of Burlington Police Chief Nathan Hill - but the police boss was not at home at the time of the horror attack and emergency crews found the girl by her devastated mum.

The child was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital she was rushed to. The German Shepherd was not actively attacking the three-year-old when authorities arrived at the scene and had been put into a secure kennel, according to the Burlington Police Department.
The animal was then taken to a local dog pound and euthanized. Draco was a single-purpose narcotics detection K-9 for the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office but had been donated to the Burlington department after he was "recently taken out of service".
The Burlington sheriff was housing Draco at the time of the attack. Officials have launched a probe into the death but have not said what could have led up to the shocking attack.
Sheriff Travis Beldon said the attack was out of character for the dog, who was not trained in any kind of bite work, according to 9News.
Beldon said: "He's trained for detection. He's not in any way trained for patrol work, apprehension, anything that would involve biting, he's not trained for that kind of stuff. So it is very uncharacteristic for him to attack in this fashion."
He added: "It's an incident that's extremely tragic. It's something that's going to be in the back of everybody's mind for a while."
It is not clear how long Draco had been "out of service" but a previous post by the police department revealed the dog was used to detect drugs during traffic stops as late as June this year.
The K-9, around three years old, was introduced to Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office in September 2023 after he underwent "rigorous" training out-of-state, the cop department said at the time.
Officials have said they do not expect any criminal charges to be filed in this tragic case. The Burlington Police Department said: "This is a very tragic situation, affecting this community as a whole."

British brain surgeon 'assaulted woman, posed with weapons and watched beheading video'

Brain Surgeon Dr. Sayed Talibi has been struck off after it was found proved that he has committed a myriad of offences, including assaulting and threatening a woman A British brain surgeon has been struck off the medical register after committing a spate of disturbing offences. ‌ Dr Sayed Talibi, 38, from Tamworth, worked at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust before his suspension. A medical tribunal found him guilty of misconduct spanning more than a decade. ‌ From posing with an arsenal of weapons in a series of photographs, downloading or viewing graphic images of Taliban beheadings, assaulting a woman, making racist comments, and committing fraud - the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found the brain surgeon had brought his profession "into disrepute" in many ways. ‌ Talibi admitted possessing photos of a waterboarding device, and it was found that he had downloaded or viewed sick images of civilians and Pakistani soldiers being beheaded by the Taliban. However, claims that he possessed "sensitive material" about the terrorists who conducted the 9/11 attacks were not proven. He also admitted uploading a photo of himself during a brain surgery to an online dating profile that included the patient's exposed brain - without their consent. Between 2007 and 2018, he was found to have posed with a litany of weapons in a series of chilling photographs, including a 'large quantity' of knives, firearms and an axe. The disgraced surgeon admitted posing with the weapons was "foolish" but that he believed "it was cool" at the time. ‌ He also claimed that his interest in weapons was linked to his time as an army cadet when he was a student. Talibi denied having "anti-Western sentiments" which the KC for the General Medical Council accused him of, calling himself a "British patriot". However, it was found proved that he had used racist language between January 2016 and August 2017, including that he used words to the effect of saying he "hated" non-muslims - for which he used a derogatory slur, "kuffar" - "and white people". ‌ The most serious claim levied against the surgeon was that he raped a woman three times, which he denied. The tribunal found that on one occasion, he had sex with the woman without her consent and without him having "reasonable belief" she was consenting. Talibi was also proven to have behaved in a threatening and abusive manner to the woman - referred to as Ms A to protect her anonymity - which included threatening to waterboard her. In 2016, when the woman accidentally touched Talibi's glasses in the stairwell of a university library, he punched the wall and shouted at her aggressively, the tribunal heard. Talibi also admitted to breaking a non-molestation order by contacting the woman via video call in 2018. The disgraced surgeon was also found to have defrauded EDF Energy over a £770.01 bill and to have stolen £23.50 worth of milk powder from his local Asda - something which he admitted saw him banned from all Asda supermarkets.

Satisfying moment cop issues blunt message to teenagers accused of stealing a car - as Aussies become fed up with crime in Queensland

Bodycam footage captured the moment a cop erupted at three teenagers accused of breaking into homes and stealing a car. The officer confronted the group after chasing them down alongside his German Shepherd at a school in Far North Queensland last Tuesday. The teenagers hid from the policeman on the school's roof after the officer received reports alleging they'd stolen a car and broken into homes. 'Get down, show us your hands,' the police officer shouted to the trio. 'Get down off the roof now. You're all under arrest.' The three teens lowered themselves off the roof and followed the officer's instructions to lay down on the ground. The German Shepherd continued barking loudly as the officer told the minors the community was 'sick of' their behaviour. 'Guys, guess what? You are under arrest for unlawful use of a motor vehicle. It means you're stealing cars,' the cop said. 'The community is sick of you. They're sick of your dangerous driving, they're sick of you breaking into their homes. Had enough.' Queensland Police said the group were charged with a total of 16 offences. The confronting footage comes as the force continues a crackdown on property crime in Far North Queensland. In the last week alone, local police have arrested 61 people on 279 charges, including burglary and stolen vehicle offences. That figure included a 16-year-old boy from Manoora who was charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of obstructing police. Another Cairns teen was issued four charges of unlawful use of motor vehicle and two counts of enter property with intent and one of robbery. Far North District Officer Chief Superintendent Kevin Fitzgibbon said Queensland Police's top priority was protecting the community. 'The results from the first week of this enforcement show we're moving in the right direction, and we'll continue this action to protect vulnerable Queenslanders and tackle serious offenders,' he said. 'We are continuing to adapt to the community's needs, and our officers are working relentlessly to hold offenders accountable. 'We're grateful for the ongoing support from the community in assisting us in driving down offending, and they can be assured our efforts to keep them safe will never wane.' Queensland Police Service further detailed its ongoing efforts to detect, deter, and disrupt crime on Monday. 'The QPS' borderless policing posture allows resources to be shared between districts and commands, to conduct targeted, intelligence-driven activities,' it said. 'These activities will include both covert and overt strategies, and high-visibility patrols in hotspot areas including the Cairns CBD, shopping centres and public transport.'
