CTV Newsa day ago
Patios allow you to spend time outdoors comfortably without needing to leave your home. And if you spend a lot of time out there with your family or entertaining guests, you've probably spent a lot of time choosing the right furniture and décor items. Unfortunately, chilly nights can quickly send you back inside before you're ready to call it a night.
Luckily, patio heaters exist. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and mount options, so it's pretty easy to find one that suits your space perfectly. They're also really easy to use—just hook them up to their power source and turn them on! They're built to be effective and weather-resistant, so they can safely hang out outside all season.
If you think a patio heater is the right addition to your outdoor space, we're fully on board and would love to help you find the perfect fit. Patio heaters will vary in things like price, power source, heat levels, placement/mount type, maximum heat output, and more. You'll want to think about every feature to make sure they're all suited to you and your space.
This comprehensive guide will investigate the best patio heater in Canada right now and outline the criteria you should consider while making your purchase decision. Let's dive right into our top five products. The Best Patio Heater Right Now Our Top Pick for The Best Patio Heater Paramount PH-S-112-MK Patio Heater Review What We Think of the Paramount PH-S-112-MK Patio Heater
We really like the Paramount PH-S-112-MK Patio Heater. This propane-powered heater offers onboard tank storage, so you won't have an unsightly tank ruining your patio's aesthetic. Plus, with variable heat control, you'll be able to precisely adjust the amount of heat it's putting out to make sure you're comfortable in a variety of weather conditions. Doesn't that sound nice?
We're also really pleased with how powerful it is. It can put out 46,000 BTUs of heat, making it one of the most effective heaters money can buy right now. It can easily maintain a warm temperature in an 18-foot diameter! The base is equipped with wheels, too, so if you need to adjust its position depending on where you're hanging out on the patio, it won't give you too much trouble.
There are only two things that might make you think twice about choosing this option. First, this heater is more expensive than many other options, so if you don't truly need its level of heat output, you might be better off with a more affordable patio heater. Also, it's fairly large and heavier than most, so if you need something portable or out of sight, this might not be the ideal choice.
All in all, the Paramount PH-S-112-MK Patio Heater is our favourite choice for folks who will need to warm a group, an entire gazebo, etc. It's powerful, offers variable heat adjustment, and is incredibly easy to start and turn off. What more could you need? Performance: 5/5

Warranty: 1 year Our Hanging Pick Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater Review What We Think of the Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater
The Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater is our favourite hanging patio heater right now. One of the reasons for that is its efficiency. Since it uses infrared heating, it heats bodies, not the air. There's no power waste involved there! Plus, since it's electric, it doesn't produce any emissions or require any fuel. It's ultra-safe and eco-friendly. Bonus!
Of course, as a ceiling heater, one of its main benefits is its ability to keep your floor clear. If you have a small patio or you have pets and/or kids running around, there's no safer or more convenient option, right? This heater also puts out quite a lot of light, so you won't need to worry about powering another light source. We love a heater that can handle double duty!
Unfortunately, there are also a handful of reasons why this heater might not be right for you. It's only effective within a 2.5-foot radius, so you'll have to be sitting pretty close underneath it to feel any of its warmth. It also only has one heat level, and the long-term durability is questionable. Hopefully, none of these shortcomings will be dealbreakers.
All in all, the Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater is our top pick for folks who are looking for a hanging heater. It's very efficient with its power usage, it's eco-friendly, and it works incredibly well in small spaces. Perfect for outdoor mealtimes or sofa lounging! Performance: 4.5/5
Usability: 4.5/5
Price: 4/5
Quality: 4.4/5 What Reviewers Are Saying About the Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater
Reviewers have mostly positive things to say about the Ener-G+ Infrared Outdoor Ceiling Electric Patio Heater. It doesn't heat a very large area, and they have some concerns with long-term durability, but when it's used properly, they love it. It doubles as a light, it's really easy to install, and they feel really safe leaving it on for hours since it's electric and not gas-powered. Warranty: 1 year Our Tabletop Pick Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater Review What We Think of the Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater
The Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater has a lot of great features packed into a small package. Understandably, its compact size is one of its main selling points. It can easily hang out on a side table or in the center of a dining table to keep everyone warm without getting in the way. It's also a great companion for travelling since it'll pack easily in your vehicle.
Since it's compatible with a 1-lb propane tank (stored internally) or a 20-lb tank (with the purchase of an adapter), you'll be able to use this heater for a few hours or a few days with a single tank. It has a dial for temperature control, too, so you can match its output to the cool or cold temperature you're fighting. We're really impressed with the safety features, too—an auto shutoff feature kicks in if it tips over, and it has a burner screen guard to prevent you from getting too close to the heat.
One of the only things that might sway you in a different direction is the price of this one. While we completely agree that it's a valuable little heater, it does cost a bit more than we'd expect for its size and heat output. Since it's limited to 11,000 BTU at its highest setting, it won't be ideal for large groups or large spaces.
Overall, the Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater is perfect for people who love to travel or just need a compact heater for home use. It has tons of safety features to give you peace of mind, reliable (and adjustable!) heat output, and onboard tank storage. Brilliant. Performance: 4.5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 3/5
Quality: 5/5 What Reviewers Are Saying About the Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater
Reviewers are quite happy with the Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater. Its small size makes it really easy to take with them when they go camping, tailgating, etc., but it still puts out a great amount of heat for people nearby. They really appreciate all of the safety features that are in place, and the precise temperature control makes it perfect for an extended season. Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater Pros and Cons
Buy If… Precise temperature control appeals to you
You need something portable and off the floor
You'd love the option of connecting to a 1-lb tank or 20-lb tank
Don't Buy If… You're trying to spend as little as possible
You're looking for a high heat output Cuisinart COH-500C Outdoor Tabletop Patio Heater Specifications Dimensions: 16.5' x 16.5' x 25.3'
Weight: 8.5 lbs
Placement: Tabletop
Heat Levels: Variable
Maximum Heat Output: 11,000 BTU

Warranty: 1 year Our Pyramid Pick Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover Review What We Think of the Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover
The Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover is pretty impressive. And we're not only talking about its appearance, although we love a great aesthetic as much as the next person. This heater is also incredibly powerful, pumping out 48,000 BTUs of heat with ease. This thing will easily be able to keep up with spaces as large as 175 square feet.
Another thing we love about this patio heater is the fact that it uses infrared radiant heating. This means that it heats you directly, not the air, so it's more effective and more efficient with its fuel! The included cover is a huge bonus, too. It's waterproof and will protect your heater from dust and debris in the air, too. On extra windy days, the smooth wheels make it easy to move the heater indoors or to a safe outdoor storage space.
The high price of this patio heater is its main downside. Unless you'll be using it a lot and will take full advantage of its power, it might not feel worthwhile to you to spend so much. Otherwise, the only potential issue you'll face is its size—it's one of the largest patio heaters out there, so if you're short on floor space or like to travel, it won't be the greatest fit.
All in all, the Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover has an extremely long list of great features to offer and very few negatives to go along with that. No matter how large your patio is or how precise you like to be with the temperature, this heater has what you need. Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 1.5/5
Quality: 5/5 What Reviewers Are Saying About the Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover
Reviewers are blown away by the Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover. Its unique design makes it a statement piece on every patio, and it performs even better than it looks. Even the largest patios get full coverage with this one, and people are really happy with the quality of the cover, too. They like being able to protect it from bad weather. They highly recommend it for others. Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover Pros and Cons
Buy If… Infrared radiant heating is what you're after
You'd like to keep your heater protected from the elements
You're heating a large space
A great aesthetic is important to you
Don't Buy If… You're shopping on any kind of a budget
A compact heater is what you're looking for Pamapic 8560 Patio Heater with Cover Specifications Dimensions: 21' x 21' x 89.4'
Weight: 61.7 lbs
Placement: Floor
Heat Levels: Variable
Maximum Heat Output: 48,000 BTU
Power Source: Propane Our Wall-Mounted Pick Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater Review What We Think of the Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater
The Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater is a great choice for people who are interested in a wall-mounted heater that offers multiple power levels. Three different heat settings guarantee you'll be able to combat a range of outdoor temperatures effectively, and since the heater can tilt 45 degrees vertically, you can direct it where it'll be most useful.
We also appreciate that this heater is electric instead of gas-powered, since you won't have to worry about fuel costs or the harmful emissions it would produce. The low price tag is another major selling point. If you're shopping on a budget, you won't find anything better suited to your bank account.
There are a few things we need to mention before we wrap up. Our main concern is safety with this one. It is prone to overheating and melting its own plastic housing at the highest setting, so it can easily become a fire risk. It also isn't weatherproof and isn't compatible with large areas, so those might be other reasons to look elsewhere.
Overall, the Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater is a solid choice as long as you won't be using it at the maximum setting too often. The safety concerns are, well, concerning, but it can be very useful if it's used on the lower settings and has a good amount of ventilation around it. Performance: 4.5/5
Usability: 4/5
Price: 5/5
Quality: 4/5 What Reviewers Are Saying About the Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater
Reviewers have mixed feelings about the Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater. They were surprised by how much heat it can put out as a smaller heater, and they appreciate the tilt feature and low price quite a lot. However, it isn't waterproof to any degree, and many of them experienced melting plastic and other safety issues. Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater Pros and Cons
Buy If… You'd like to direct the heat where you need it to go
You're looking for a heater that won't be underfoot or steal valuable tabletop space
An affordable price tag is a priority
Multiple heat levels would be useful
Don't Buy If… You're looking to heat a large area
You need a weather-proof heater Donyer Power Wall-Mounted Electric Patio Heater Specifications Dimensions: 20.9' x 9.7' x 10.6'
Weight: 4.4 lbs
Placement: Wall or ceiling
Heat Levels: 3
Maximum Heat Output: 1,500 W

Every 'top pick' featured in our guides has earned its spot through careful analysis, not sponsorship. How to Properly Choose Your Patio Heater Price
Some patio heaters will cost less than $60, while others can be priced over $500. Generally, more expensive patio heaters will offer higher heat outputs, variable temperature control instead of preset levels, more safety features, and a better aesthetic. Gas-powered heaters also tend to be more expensive than electric ones. Power Source
Patio heaters can run on electricity or propane. Electric patio heaters typically aren't as powerful, but they're less expensive and are better for the environment. Propane patio heaters can produce a lot more heat, often have variable heat control, and offer more freedom in terms of placement. Heat Levels
Many patio heaters are equipped with a variable heat dial so you can be extremely precise about the amount of heat they're putting out. Most propane heaters offer this feature. Electric patio heaters may also just be outfitted with a few preset levels or offer no variability in heat levels at all. You'll have to decide what's right for your space. Maximum Heat Output
The maximum heat output of a patio heater can vary quite dramatically between 5,000 BTU and 50,000 BTU. More heat output means a heater can manage a larger space more effectively, but it'll also be larger in size, and the best heat producers will be propane models that require a lot of fuel and produce a lot of emissions. Placement
Patio heaters can offer a variety of placement options depending on their style. Many of them are floor mount only, but you can also find more compact options that are well-suited to a tabletop. Wall-mount heaters and ceiling-mount heaters are also available if you'd like to keep your surfaces free of clutter.

Fire destroyed one unit at the Opera House in St. Marys, Ont. on Friday, July 4, 2025 (Brent Lale/CTV London) A timely response by St. Marys fire fighters saved a historic building from going up in flames. Just before midnight on Friday, a resident of the Opera House on Water Street went out to walk their dog. They noticed smoke coming from a unit, which faces the back parking lot. 'They ran inside and once they got to the second story, they noticed a lot of smoke in the hallway,' said Chief Phil West of St. Marys Fire Dept. 'They pounded on the door saying, 'There's a fire.' That gentleman might have saved a life.' The individual went back in and learned another tenant had called 911 and another had used the pull station and fire alarms were activated. She did not need to be taken to hospital and moved with her cat into a friend's house temporarily. 'We called mutual aid (Granton Fire and Uniondale) right away,' said West. 'It was a quick knock down from the outside and through a window which was broken from the heat of the fire.' Saturday morning, the building's owner along with the town's building inspector and the Chief Fire Inspector of St. Marys Fire were on scene. Tenants have been displaced until officials can approve a safe return. St. Marys opera house fire July 4 2025 Fire destroyed one unit at the Opera House in St. Marys, Ont. on Friday, July 4, 2025 (Brent Lale/CTV London) 'That's going to be up to the building inspector,' said West. 'St. Marys Fire is going to be involved with making sure the fire system is back up and running, adequately. They're going to have to determine damage from the water below, from the entranceway, they're going to have to deal whether that's safe or close that area off while it's getting repaired.' The historic building constructed between 1879 and 1880 has an exterior which is protected by an Ontario Heritage Trust conservation easement. The stone building on the Thames River is also designated by the Town of St. Marys. The Opera House is significant for its association with social life and performances of Shakespearean plays, musical comedies, vaudeville shows, and even political building was restored into apartments in 1987. History was saved thanks to a quick response by a Samaritan and local fire fighters. 'It could have been a lot bigger and a lot worse,' said West.
