Ligue 1 players suspended for anti-homophobia campaign opposition
Three Ligue 1 players have been handed suspensions for failing to respect the league's anti-homophobia campaign, which coincided with the final day of the season.
Once again, FC Nantes' Mostafa Mohamed refused to take part in the campaign, citing objections. He has not been fined, but his Egyptian compatriot, Ahmed Hassan, did. The Le Havre forward masked the rainbow logo on his shirt during the match, as did Olympique Lyonnais' Nemanja Matić. They did so using tape. Both have received suspensions from the LFP. They have both been handed a two-match ban with a further two-game suspended ban.

Those will come into effect for the start of the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign. RC Lens' Jonathan Gradit has also been suspended for one game. The Frenchman could be heard making a homophobic slur on the same weekend as the anti-homophobia campaign. He has been handed a one-game ban by the French authorities.

Boy fell to death after slip at Cliffs of Moher
A 12-year-old boy fell to his death at Ireland's Cliffs of Moher after slipping in a puddle close to the edge, an inquest has heard. Zhihan Zhao was with his mother and her friends at the beauty spot on the County Clare coast on 23 July last year when he walked ahead of the group. A French tourist who witnessed him fall told Clare Coroner's Court she saw him slip and try to pull himself up by grasping at grass, before he disappeared over the edge. The coroner embraced Zhihan's distraught mother after recording a verdict of accidental death. Zhihan and his mother, Xianhong Huang, both Chinese nationals, had arrived in Ireland 12 days before his fatal fall. In her deposition, Ms Huang said that Zhihan was walking ahead of her on the Cliffs of Moher trail and she lost sight of him. "My son walked very fast and was ahead of us by 50 metres," she said. "As there was only one path, I thought we would meet him along the way. "When I didn't, I walked to the visitor centre and I checked the visitor centre." Unable to find him at the visitor centre, she returned to the path to search for him and when there was no sign of him, she reported him missing. Ms Huang said she last saw Zhihan at 13:00 that day and the court heard she provided gardaí (Irish police) with a photo of him she had taken earlier on the trail. Speaking through an interpreter at the inquest in Kilrush, County Clare, Ms Huang, wiping away tears, asked: "What exactly caused Zhihan to fall from the cliffs?" Clare County Coroner Isobel O'Dea told the grieving mother that the evidence of an eyewitness would help answer that question. French tourist, Marion Tourgon, told the inquest she witnessed Zhihan falling over the edge at about 13:45 that day. Ms Tourgon explained she was at the edge of the cliffs with her husband and two children and they were taking a selfie at the time. She describing seeing a young Asian boy, who was alone, come into view. "I saw him slipping in the puddle that appears in the photo that my husband sent to the police," the witness said. "His right foot slipped into the puddle, with him trying to stop himself from falling with his left foot but his left foot ended up in the air." Ms Tourgon added: "It was very quick - he found himself in an awkward position with his left foot in a void over the cliff and his right knee on the edge of the cliff." She continued: "His right knee eventually fell into the void over the cliff and he was trying to grasp the grass with his hands to pull himself up. "He didn't shout and there was no noise." The Tourgon family then phoned the emergency services. An air, land and sea search operation began involving the Irish Coast Guard, gardaí, and Irish civil defence volunteers who used boats, drones, divers and a helicopter. A police witness, Garda Colm Collins, told the inquest he received a call at 14:00 that day after a male was seen falling off the edge of the Cliffs of Moher. He said that the Irish Coast Guard had spotted a body floating in the water at the base of the cliffs. The court heard a lifeboat was launched but it was was not able to access the site where the body was spotted due to the sea conditions. It was another five days before Zhihan's body was eventually recovered from the sea. The boy was found by a fisherman, Matthew O'Halloran, from Corofin, County Clare. He spotted a body facedown and arms extended in the water between Doolin and the Aran Islands shortly after 10:00 local time on 28 July 2024. Mr O'Halloran alerted the Irish Coast Guard and its members retrieved Zhihan's body and brought it ashore at Doolin. The coroner said post-mortem results had confirmed that Zhihan died from multiple traumatic injuries consistent with a fall from a height. "It is clear from evidence we heard that Zhihan slipped off the cliffs rather than any other way. His death would have been very quick - instantaneous." Addressing the boy's mother, she said: "I can't imagine how upsetting this is for you." Ms O'Dea also extended her sympathies to Zhihan's father who was not present at the inquest. She embraced Ms Huang as she left the coroner's court. The accident was the second fatal fall at the Cliffs of Moher within a three-month period last year. In May 2024, a student in her 20s lost her footing while walking with friends and fell to her death. Since August last year, large sections of the Cliffs of Moher trail have been closed due to safety concerns. At the time, the Clare Local Development Company confirmed that it was taking the action following the two fatal accidents. Jan Brueghel crowned a winner in the Coronation Cup at Epsom
Jan Brueghel (10-3) battled to a gutsy victory to give Aidan O'Brien a record-extending 10th victory in the Betfred Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday afternoon. Under Ryan Moore, the four-year-old son of Galileo upset warm 8-13 favourite Calandagan in the Group One contest, holding the French raider off to score by half-a-length. The Francis Henri-Graffard-trained four-year-old, who won at Royal Ascot last year, was once again having to settle for second place in a Group One having been runner-up to to O'Brien's City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International, to Anmaat in the Champions Stakes at Ascot and on his seasonal return behind Danon Decile in the Dubai Sheema Classic in Meydan in April. But Jan Brueghel, who was unbeaten in his four starts last season including in the Betfred St Leger, bounced back from a first career defeat when second on his seasonal return to Galen in the Group Three Alleged Stakes at the Curragh in April, to land another Group One victory despite not necessarily being at home on the ups and downs of the Epsom track. He was unbeaten last year and he was the biggest penalty kick ever in the Melbourne Cup, but didn't get to run. "Ryan has given him an incredible ride and got him balanced and into a lovely rhythm. They started to race from a long way out, but it was incredible in the straight how he carried on. Everyone knew it was going to be a good gallop and Wayne Lordan (on Continuous) was there to ensure it was a good gallop, all everyone wanted was a solidly-run race and Ryan felt they were going fast enough for him. "I thought Wayne was excellent at setting the pace and everyone was happy to get a lead off Wayne and when you get a race run at a suitable pace you know what distance you can go next or what not to. This way everyone learns. "At Group One level he is a mile-and-a-half-plus horse and he's a very tough horse who would still be unbeaten if I hadn't run him at the Curragh. It's was a lovely run first time back and it was only over a mile and a quarter and he was beaten by a good horse of Joseph's (O'Brien, Galen). It was a bit unfair what I did pitching him in over that trip, but I needed to get him out early. He's a very brave horse and if you pass him slowly you're in trouble." O'Brien added: "Everyone was standing in line behind Kyprios and he was always going to get first preference and there would be no move made on anything if he was going to Gold Cup. When he was retired Illinois was put in there and this fella came into Illinois' position. He was going to go for a Group One in Longchamp but then slotted in here." Jockey Moore, who was winning a fifth Coronation Cup. said: "He's only been beaten once and he's a very good horse. He's a Classic winner and still improving and we're still learning. Hopefully we'll keep learning about him. He was headed there and battled back, but he's a tough horse." Francis-Henri Graffard, trainer of runner-up Calandagan, said: 'The horse had a perfect run and got the ride we were thinking of. Going down the hill he found himself behind Ryan (Moore on the winner) and he gave him plenty of time to balance. He probably took the lead for a small moment and then when they started to climb again you could see that Ryan was finding more. He's a very talented horse and I'm sure he'll win a Group One as he always runs his race. There are no excuses and I think it was a good performance. Despite finding eight of the 10 suspects guilty of crimes related to the 2016 heist, the French court allowed all defendants to walk free, with some receiving suspended sentences or credit for time already served. The judge cited the defendants' ages and health concerns as reasons for leniency. Two were acquitted. The crime occurred during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, when Kardashian was staying at the exclusive "No Name Hotel," reportedly known for hosting celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Madonna. That night, while Kardashian's security detail accompanied her sister Kourtney to a nightclub, the robbers struck. In an interview with ABC News, Yunice Abbas, one of the convicted robbers, said he didn't even know who Kardashian was at the time. "I was always told 'wife of an American rapper,'" Abbas said. When asked if he expected the lenient sentence, Abbas responded with a simple "No" as he left the courthouse a free man. The unexpected verdict left some questioning the French justice system. "I respect Kim Kardashian, but I call foul. Justice was not served," legal commentator Nancy Grace told ABC News. "They should be in jail for what they did."
