Rangers hire former All-Star Bret Boone as hitting coach
May 5 - Bret Boone is returning to the American League West, this time as the new hitting coach for the Texas Rangers, the team announced on Monday.
Boone, who played nearly half his 14 years with the Seattle Mariners, will join the Rangers' bench in time for Tuesday's series opener at the Boston Red Sox.
In his first stint as a Major League coaching staff member, the 56-year-old former second baseman will look to infuse some much-needed offense to a Texas team that holds the league's sixth-worst batting average (.228), third-lowest on-base percentage (.285) and second-fewest runs (113). Just a season removed from the franchise's only World Series title, the Rangers have dropped four of their last five, losing by a combined score of 25-3 in those four losses.
Boone batted .266 in his career while belting 252 home runs, ranking 10th among second basemen in MLB history. He will reunite with Texas manager Bruce Bochy, whom Boone played for during his lone season with the San Diego Padres in 2000.
A three-time All-Star, Boone also won four Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards and drove in 1,021 runs before retiring in 2006.
His brother, Aaron, has managed the New York Yankees for the past eight seasons while his father, Bob, managed the Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds for a combined six years.

Mariners OF Julio Rodriguez hit by liner, exits vs. Angels
June 8 - Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez left Saturday night's game against the host Los Angeles Angels in the third inning after getting hit in the right ankle area by a 98.1 mph liner by teammate Randy Arozarena while attempting to steal third base. A two-time All-Star, Rodriguez had singled to lead off the inning and stole second base in the game in Anaheim, Calif. After Cal Raleigh struck out, Arozarena hit an infield single that struck Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who was 2-for-2 with one run, had to be helped back to the dugout by Mariners vice president of high performance and medical Rob Scheidegger and assistant athletic trainer Kevin Orloski. Seattle failed to score in the inning with the game tied 4-4. The 24-year-old Rodriguez was replaced in center field by Leody Taveras. Jacob deGrom excels as Rangers blank Nationals
June 7 - Jacob deGrom pitched seven strong innings, Marcus Semien had two hits and drove in three runs and the Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 on Saturday. The 36-year-old deGrom (6-2) allowed two hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out eight. He has allowed two runs or less in ten consecutive starts and his ERA for the season is 2.12. Semien singled home a run in the first and added a two-run double in the eighth. Sam Haggerty had three hits and scored twice for Texas, which had lost four straight. Washington starter Mitchell Parker (4-6) nearly matched deGrom. The lefthander gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. He struck out five without a walk. After being shut out 2-0 on Friday night, the Rangers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Saturday. Haggerty led off the game with a single and with one out, Josh Jung singled. Semien singled to center and when the ball got by centerfielder Robert Hassell III both runners scored and Semien went all the way to third. Nathaniel Lowe singled off deGrom with one out in the second. With two outs, Alex Call was hit by a pitch but deGrom struck out Keibert Ruiz. Semien walked leading off the seventh against Cole Henry and went to second on a balk. After Jake Burger walked, Henry retired the next two batters before walking Kyle Higashioka to load the bases. Andrew Chafin came on and retired Josh Smith to end the inning. In the eighth, Haggerty and Wyatt Langford opened with singles against Eduardo Salazar. With one out, Semien doubled to left center, scoring both runners. Semien scored to make it 5-0 when Adolis Garcia blooped a two-out single to center.
