In many parts of India, especially in Mathura and Vrindavan, the celebrations continue through the night with bhajans, dances, and the popular Dahi Handi ritual.

The month ends on a high note with Ganesh Chaturthi on Wednesday, 27 August. The day marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is one of the most awaited festivals in Maharashtra and other parts of India. "It is estimated that there are eight lakh temples in the country, with around 49,000 of them in Delhi. We have launched a campaign to spread awareness across the country on recycling old clothes," said Vijender. The NGO used to collect old clothes from residential societies to fabricate bags. "Once, we received two cartons of old clothes which had earlier adorned idols. After research, we made bags from those sacred cloth. We decided to give these sacred pieces of fabric a new purpose," Vijender smiled. Kiran Dwivedi, a Sampoorna worker, said she came to the NGO over a decade ago to learn sewing. "I am happy that I work here now and am involved in the protection of the environment," she said. I-Day celebration committees formed
Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Darshan HV instructed that various departments must diligently fulfil their responsibilities to successfully celebrate the Independence Day event organised by the district administration on Aug 15. He presided over a preparatory meeting held at the district collector's office on Friday, regarding the Independence Day celebrations. The DC emphasised that as in previous years, this year's Independence Day should be conducted grandly and without any shortcomings, with all departments working responsibly. Committees have been formed, and he instructed the respective committees to manage the reception, presentation, stage arrangements, parade, refreshments, emergency treatment, and drinking water supply efficiently. He stressed the importance of cooperation from all departments to meaningfully celebrate the event and mandated the attendance of all department officials and staff on the day of the celebration. He also instructed departments to arrange for electrical decorations and directed that cultural programmes by students be conducted well.
