They Lack 'Expertise' In Handling India: Expert On US' Op Sindoor Response
In an interview with ANI, Abrahms said that India does not feel respected by the US in its treatment, "Pakistan became very vocally supportive of the US role and recommended a Nobel Prize for Trump, whereas India really chipped at the level of US involvement and especially Trump claiming so much credit for the course of the short war."
He explained how even though India is the largest democracy in the world, with the largest population and will soon be the third largest economy, the Trump administration does not regard India as a "fully independent country on the world stage". He also said that because of how the US is treating India, it seems like it does not fully appreciate its contributions.
"I cannot really say with any level of confidence exactly what the Trump administration's role was", Abrahms said regarding Trump's claim of being involved in stopping the conflict between the two South-Asian nations.
He stated that India-US relations are dependent on the US-Russia meeting, as Russian oil is the major bone of contention between US and India, adding, "We need to be a little bit patient in terms of the meetings between Trump and Putin".
Highlighting how important it is for the US to mend its relations in the Indo-Pacific in order to control China, he said, "But you know the China threat isn't going away and the United States, especially under this administration, sees China as a threat that needs to be contained. And that is going to require the US to mend relations with allies in the Indo-Pacific region", adding that this aspect makes him "optimistic" about moving forward.
He pointed out that the US cannot become isolated or have asymmetrical trade relations with other countries as we live in a globalised world. He said, "If something's bad for the Indian economy, it's also not good for the US economy" and noted that it is in the US interest for the Indian economy to grow.
Warning about how "dangerous" Trump's 'America First' policy is, he said, "That's a dangerous path to go down. It can have not just a negative effect on the financial system, but also in terms of military ties."

Dog whistling mars PM's I-Day speech
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 12th Independence Day address from the Red Fort, dwelt on a wide range of topics relating to national security. He also spoke about the economy, law and justice, and the needs of the youth, explaining his government's policies and actions. .It is the prime minister's prerogative to speak to the nation about his concerns, hopes and expectations on one of the most important days in the national calendar. He looked back with pride and conviction on the achievements of his government and not so convincingly about the failures of others, and cast a long look on the country's bright and viksit future. .He also flagged some imagined concerns, couching them in political and communal terms, and giving them an urgency and importance they did not deserve. Prime ministers sometimes fail to rise above their politics even when they speak from the national rostrum. .Modi rightly lauded the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and their commitment to the defence of the country, and warned its adversaries against hostile and unfriendly actions. He spoke of the need to make the country self-reliant, and underlined the importance of his Make in India, Vocal for Local and 'aatmanirbharta' policies, particularly in the economy and defence sectors. .The idea has a special resonance in the wake of the May hostilities with Pakistan and the tariff war unleashed by US President Donald Trump. Modi announced a plan to develop an indigenous defence system, called Sudarshan Chakra, expected to be deployed by 2035. He also promised a Rs 1 lakh crore Rozgar Yojana for the young, invoked the symbolism of naari shakti, and cited the achievements of the country in various fields. The promises included next generation GST reforms, to be rolled out by Diwali, to reduce the tax burden and make goods and services cheaper. .The prime minister announced the launch of a high-powered Demography Mission to address what he called a deliberate conspiracy to change the demography of the country. No proof of such a conspiracy was given and the announcement is in line with the politics of communal dog whistling that the Hindutva groups have been pursuing. .It is no surprise that Modi also praised the RSS and its activities. The theme of infiltration has been used in the past electorally and politically and his announcement indicates that it will be pushed to the front in the coming days. The move goes beyond justified concerns over illegal immigration and aims to create a polarising narrative against some sections of society.

‘Historic decision': Zelensky hails US offer of security guarantees to Ukraine
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday hailed the United States' offer of security guarantees as a 'historic decision', a day before his meeting with US President Donald Trump. Zelensky called the 'coalition of the willing' meeting on Sunday 'very useful'.(AP) This comes after US envoy Steve Witkoff hinted that the US was prepared to commit to security guarantees. 'Security guarantees as a result of our joint work must be truly very practical and provide protection on land, in the air, and at sea, and must also be developed with Europe's participation,' Zelensky said. He further called the 'coalition of the willing' meeting on Sunday 'very useful'. The meeting, held via video conferencing, was attended by a group of Ukraine's allies, including Britain, France and Germany. Zelensky said that all parties agreed that state borders must not be changed by force. The Ukrainian president reiterated the resolution of the key issues in the Russia Ukraine conflict in a 'trilateral format', which includes Russia, Ukraine and US. Trump could offer a NATO-like protection to Ukraine, and Russia is open to the idea, one of his top foreign policy officials told Reuters on Sunday. This comes before the meeting between Trump and Zelensky, who will be joined by the European leaders. 'We were able to win the following concession, that the United States could offer Article 5-like protection,' Witkoff earlier told CNN's "State of the Union" program. He said that the US can offer an Article 5 protection, adding that it was the first time that Russia had agreed to something like this. Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty regards an attack on any one of its 32 member nations as an attack on all. Witkoff hinted that a security guarantee of this scale could be extended to Ukraine in lieu of NATO membership, which Putin has objected to. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had also accompanied Trump to Alaska for the summit with Putin, said in an interview with the CNN that the talks had 'made some progress'. 'Ultimately, where this should lead is to a meeting between the three leaders, between Zelensky, Putin and President Trump, where we can finalize, but we got to get this thing closer before we get to that point,' Rubio said.

INDIA Bloc Leaders Likely To Discuss Joint Veep Candidate Today
New Delhi: The opposition INDIA bloc leaders are likely to discuss their joint candidate for the post of vice-president at a meeting of floor leaders on Monday morning. Sources said the INDIA bloc leaders would meet at the office of Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, at 10.15 am on Monday. The meeting will be held a day after the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan as its nominee for the post of vice-president, the second-highest constitution position in the country. Radhakrishnan hails from Tamil Nadu, which will go to polls in 2026. While the ruling BJP feels that the nomination of Radhakrishnan, a seasoned BJP leader with an RSS background, will elicit support from the wider opposition, especially the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, it remains to be seen what stand the opposition parties take on Monday. BJP president J P Nadda, while announcing the nomination of Radhakrishnan after a meeting of the party's parliamentary board on Sunday, said the NDA will speak to the opposition parties to reach a consensus for the vice-presidential election. The Congress-led INDIA bloc partners earlier announced their decision to field a joint 'non-political' candidate for the election. The vice-presidential election, necessitated by the sudden resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar last month, is scheduled for September 9. The last date for filing nomination is August 21.
