Singaporean Amos Yee faces more jail time after parole breach, possible lifetime monitoring
SINGAPORE, May 21 — Amos Yee, a Singaporean convicted of child sex offences in the United States, will remain in prison for at least another six months after breaching the terms of his parole.
The Straits Times reported today that the Illinois Department of Corrections said Yee, 26, is now scheduled for potential release on parole on November 7, 2025.
That date marks exactly two years since he was returned to custody after initially being granted early parole in October 2023. He had been due for full release in April this year.
His updated projected discharge date is listed as 'three years to life', with the final duration to be determined by the authorities.
In Illinois, this refers to when an individual is expected to complete their parole, formally known as mandatory supervised release.
'Amos Yee is not eligible to resume mandatory supervised release until Nov 7, 2025, due to the Prisoner Review Board determining he violated the terms of his release,' a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections said to The Straits Times.
No further details were given at the time of writing.
Yee is currently held at Danville Correctional Centre, a medium-security adult prison in Illinois.
In October 2020, he was sentenced to six years' imprisonment at Illinois River Correctional Centre after pleading guilty to grooming a 14-year-old girl and possessing child sexual abuse material.
He was granted early parole in 2023 but was returned to custody a month later.
Yee moved to the US in late 2016, shortly before he was due to enlist for national service in Singapore.
He was granted political asylum the following year, after claiming he was being persecuted for his views.
Prior to leaving Singapore, he had been jailed twice for separate incidents related to content he posted online.
He remains listed on the US sex offender registry.

NEW YORK, June 7 — An ex-girlfriend of Sean Combs testified yesterday of sex with a network of paid male escorts at the music mogul's behest and that he asked her to transport drugs for him. The woman speaking under the pseudonym Jane took the stand for a second day in the sex trafficking and racketeering trial, delivering emotional, graphic testimony in the federal criminal proceedings against Combs, the 55-year-old superstar known as 'Diddy.' He faces life in prison if convicted in the case, and has denied all charges. Jane told jurors in the Manhattan courtroom that she, assistants of Combs or the artist himself would book travel for the escorts, who would frequently be paid by Combs in the thousands of dollars in cash or via apps. The payment was in exchange for choreographed sexual encounters that would sometimes last days, 'hotel nights' that Jane described in lurid detail. Her description closely tracked with the testimony of a previous star witness, Casandra Ventura, who said the encounters were called 'freak-offs.' Her feeling of obligation had escalated in 2023, when the pair made a verbal 'love contract' stipulating that while so-called hotel nights would feature into their relationship, so would a $10,000 monthly payment from Combs to Jane. She told jurors yesterday that Combs continues to make her that payment, which she uses for rent, even as he is incarcerated. Flying with drugs Jane's testimony of paying for the travel of escorts is key to the prosecution's argument that Combs trafficked men and women across state lines with the intent of prostitution. She also told jurors that she transported illegal drugs for Combs on two occasions. When she expressed to a high-ranking staff member of Combs that it felt 'unsafe' to fly with drugs from Los Angeles to Miami, the staffer replied that 'it's fine' and 'I do it all the time.' In their opening statements, the defence insisted that Combs's relationship with Jane was consensual. But she described struggling to get through the hotel nights without the aid of drugs, namely Ecstasy. She recounted one instance when she attempted to stay sober while complying with Combs's demands that she have sex with multiple men for hours, to the point that she threw up, saying she was 'repulsed.' 'Sean came in and I told him I had just thrown up and he was like, 'that's good then you'll feel better.'' ''Let's go because the guy is here, the third guy,'' Jane said he told her. Jane previously told jurors that her relationship with Combs continued up until his arrest in September 2024. Prosecutors say he ran a criminal enterprise of employees and bodyguards who enforced his power and fulfilled his desires with illicit acts including trafficking, kidnapping, bribery and arson. Along with Ventura — whose testimony included harrowing accounts of physical and psychological abuse — and Jane, witnesses have included former employees of Bad Boy Enterprises, Combs's company. Singapore PR jailed 10 days for chokehold on Marina Bay Sands security officer after boozy night out
SINGAPORE, June 7 — A Russian national and Singapore permanent resident has been jailed for 10 days after attacking a security officer in a lift at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) following a night of heavy drinking, Channel News Asia (CNA) reported yesterday. Konstantin Gavrilov, 45, had been drinking at a company event at Marina Bay Financial Centre on the evening of November 29, 2023, where he consumed about five glasses of beer. He later moved to Ce La Vi at MBS, where he drank vodka, before heading to Avenue, a nightclub in the MBS basement. At some point before 4.51am on November 30, Gavrilov caused a disturbance at the club by knocking into other patrons. Security officers were called in and escorted him out. Among them was a 51-year-old part-time security officer who had worked at MBS for five years. As the group accompanied Gavrilov into a lift, the officer tried to calm him down. Gavrilov initially appeared cooperative, but without warning, he turned and punched the officer in the face. He then placed the officer in a chokehold, dragging him around the confined space as the two other guards tried to intervene. According to court documents, 'Konstantin Gavrilov struck the victim's face in an elevator,' before 'put[ting] the victim in a chokehold' during the 31-second incident caught on CCTV. The victim, who fell during the attack, suffered dizziness and numbness in his face. His spectacles were broken in the scuffle and later repaired at a cost of S$15 (RM50), which Gavrilov reimbursed. One officer ran for help while others eventually managed to subdue Gavrilov as the lift reached the first floor. Police arrived shortly after 5.50am and arrested him at the scene. Gavrilov was taken to the Police Cantonment Complex, where a blood test revealed he had 204mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood — more than four times Singapore's legal driving limit. He pleaded guilty to one charge of causing hurt and was sentenced yesterday. For voluntarily causing hurt, he could have faced up to five years in jail, a fine of up to S$10,000, or both.
