Opposition must unite to dismantle DMK government: Nainar Nagendran
All Opposition parties in the State, including actor Vijay's party, must come together to remove the DMK government, citing deteriorating law and order, rising drug use among students, and financial burdens on citizens, said Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran.
'Property tax rates and electricity charges have become unbearable. All Opposition parties must unite to dislodge the DMK government,' he said while meeting with the media persons here on Wednesday.
Mr. Nagendran also clarified that the BJP does not interfere in the internal affairs of any political party. Responding to allegations of BJP involvement in the recent internal rift within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), he said, 'Not just the PMK, the BJP will not intervene in the internal matters of any party.'
On the status of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, he said both O. Panneerselvam and T.T.V. Dhinakaran are already part of the alliance. 'I believe all NDA constituents will work together with former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who is also part of the alliance,' he said.
On the ongoing sexual harassment case involving a student of Anna University, Mr. Nagendran said, 'The public is still asking, 'Who is that sir?' The police have not conducted a proper investigation. While I will not comment on the court's verdict, the Chief Minister must clarify the issue and respond to public concerns.'
When asked about Congress State president K. Selvaperunthagai's statement suggesting that PMK and DMDK should join the DMK-led alliance, Mr. Nagendran dismissed it as a personal opinion. 'There are still 10 months left for the elections. We will consider talks regarding PMK and DMDK joining the NDA,' he said.
On actor Kamal Haasan's recent remarks about the origin of the Kannada language, Mr. Nagendran said, 'If he had spoken only about Tamil, everyone would have supported him. But linking it to other languages is unacceptable.'
He also announced that around five lakh devotees are expected to attend the Murugan Devotees' Conference in Madurai on June 22. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Madurai on June 8 to meet BJP functionaries, he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to shift focus to organisational matters, particularly the appointment of its next national president. While the party has made no official announcement yet, sources suggest that internal deliberations are underway and a formal process could begin as early as mid-June. According to sources cited by Live Hindustan, the BJP has completed organisational elections in most states, which are a necessary precondition under the party constitution before electing the next national president. The recent announcement of 70 district presidents in Uttar Pradesh has further fuelled speculation that the central leadership may soon decide on the BJP chief post. However, the process is said to have been briefly delayed in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir on April 22. Party sources reportedly indicate that before the national-level appointment, the BJP may first finalise new state unit presidents in key states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. In Uttar Pradesh, where caste equations are pivotal, a Brahmin face was reportedly being considered earlier. However, a growing demand for an OBC leader has emerged within sections of the party, reported Live Hindustan. This shift could reflect the BJP's broader attempt to consolidate its OBC support base, particularly after recent electoral trends. In Madhya Pradesh, the current leadership structure has an OBC Chief Minister and a Brahmin state president – a balance that has so far worked for the party. However, sources suggest the party is now considering appointing a tribal leader as the state chief, given the relatively low tribal representation in the current state and national leadership. In Uttarakhand, a Brahmin leader is said to be the frontrunner for the state president's post, although no official confirmation has been made. Even as the state-level equations are being finalised, names of potential contenders for the national president's post have started doing the rounds in party circles. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a key OBC leader from Odisha, known for his organisational acumen and proximity to the central leadership is one of the key bigwigs in the race for the party's president post. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has emerged as another top contender. A former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and now a union minister, is seen as a mass leader with grassroots experience. Manohar Lal Khattar, who recently transitioned from his role as Haryana chief minister to the union cabinet, could represent continuity and administrative experience; hence, he is said to be one of the big three names the BJP may choose from. According to sources, the party's final choice is likely to factor in organisational experience, regional representation, and caste balance. The current national president, JP Nadda, has held the post since January 2020. His term was extended to steer the party through the 2024 general elections. With that mandate now fulfilled, leadership transition discussions have gained momentum. A central election committee is expected to be constituted to oversee the election process, which will include nomination filing, scrutiny, and, if necessary, voting. As of now, it is unclear whether Nadda will seek a second full term or the party will opt for a fresh face. Opposition parties , including the Congress and AAP, are said to be following the developments closely. The new chief will be instrumental in framing electoral narratives ahead of crucial state elections in 2026 and the next Lok Sabha polls in 2029.

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is working tirelessly with a vision to create a strong, self-reliant and self-sufficient developed country for future generations. While addressing the media during his visit to the BJP State Headquarters on Friday, the Minister noted that the Modi-3.0 administration will complete one year on June 9. Over the past 11 years, the government has operated with the motto 'Nation First,' aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda. He emphasised that India has surpassed Japan and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. Economists project that India could become the third largest economy, surpassing Germany, with a five trillion USD economy by 2027. Sanjay Seth urged BJP party activists and the public to actively participate in the Viksit Bharat agenda. He pointed out that previously, India was a major importer of defense equipment and had not achieved self-reliance in fulfilling a significant portion of its defense needs through domestic production. However, the country is now exporting defense equipment to around 90 countries. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Indian defense forces demonstrated their valor during Operation Sindoor, which successfully destroyed nine terrorist hubs inside Pakistan in just 22 minutes. This operation showcases India's military prowess and the preparedness of its forces. Additionally, the Minister mentioned the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which involves the mass plantation of saplings across the country. He said that Tiranga Yatras are being organised even in villages, as the local populations wished to express their support for the soldiers guarding the borders thousands of miles away. Earlier, during a meeting with senior leaders of the state party, BJP National Vice-President and Mahbubnagar MP DK Aruna honored Sanjay Seth for his contributions.

Veteran Kerala Cong leader, three-time RS MP dies at 95
Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, a three-time Rajya Sabha MP and a veteran Congress leader who led the party to its most successful Assembly election in 2001 in Kerala, passed away on Friday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 95. Pillai, the gentle face of the Congress in the state and a two-time state president, succumbed to age-related illnesses. Pillai always advocated for consensus-building within the party and led the organisation through one of its most turbulent periods when it was divided into two factions led by K Karunakaran and AK Antony. Despite the intense strife, it speaks to his calibre as a leader who was acceptable to all that the Congress-led UDF was voted to power in the state in 2001 with its highest-ever tally of 100 out of 140 seats. Born in Sooranad in Kollam district in 1930, Pillai began his career in the Congress as a local ward committee president. He headed the Kollam district Congress committee for more than five years and was elected to the Assembly twice from Adoor in 1977 and 1982. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha thrice, 1991, 1992 and 2003. Governor Rajendra Arlekar condoled his demise and said Pillai led an unblemished political career within the Congress. CM Pinarayi Vijayan called Pillai a 'well-respected and gentlemanly politician.' 'He led a political life that saw periods of having power and lacking power equally,' said the CM. Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said Pillai was among the few leaders who was acceptable to all factions. 'We remember with fondness and love the advice he gave to all of us which have strengthened our political ideals. He was like the grandfather in the family to whom we can approach with any grievance,' said Satheesan.
