Shiromani Akali Dal workers hold protest against Punjab govt over arrest of party leader Bikram aijithia

Mohali (Punjab) [India], June 26 (ANI): Punjab police on Thursday detained workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal party, who were protesting over the arrest of party leader Bikram Singh Majithia by the Vigilance Department.
This comes after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau took into custody SAD leader and MLA Bikram Singh Maijthia after conducting searches at his house in Amritsar.
The wife of Bikram Singh Majithia, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, said that 30 to 35 people entered their house on Wednesday without showing any warrant or document. Kaur stated that the matter is yet to be investigated. She further thanked all the SAD supporters who stood for Bikram Singh Mathithia during the raids.
'Thirty to thirty-five people entered our house. They neither showed us any warrant nor any other document...They just stormed into our house and started checking our personal belongings. They did not speak with us. I tried speaking to the officers...This is a matter that has not even been investigated. Let's see what happens. Let the government do whatever it wants...Whatever is happening is all before you. We have fought this fight and we will continue to fight...People of Majithia stand with us and they will continue to do so,' Kaur said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi government was fighting against the drug menace and action would be taken against those involved in the drug business.
'A big campaign, 'Yudh Nashe Ke Viruddh', is going on in Punjab. When the Akali Dal and the BJP were in power, when the Congress party was in power, these people sold drugs and pushed the youth of Punjab towards drugs. They worked to make the people of Punjab addicted to drugs. The Aam Aadmi Party government is fighting against this. No person is above the law. Any person who was involved in the drug business, whether small or big, will face action. We will wipe out drugs from Punjab,' Cheema said. (ANI)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested Akali Dal leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from his residence in a posh locality in Amritsar city on charges of laundering more than Rs 540-crore drug money. Investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police probing the first information report (FIR) of 2021 and the Vigilance Bureau revealed massive laundering of drug money facilitated by Majithia, the government said. Preliminary investigations revealed that more than Rs 540 crore drug money has been laundered through several ways, including a huge unaccounted cash of Rs 161 crore deposited in bank accounts of companies controlled by Majithia, channelisation of Rs 141 crore through suspected foreign entities and excess deposition of Rs 236 crore without disclosure or explanation in company financial statements.

Puri seer accuses Mamata Banerjee of using Lord Jagannath's name for ‘commercial gains'
The Puri seer on Thursday accused the West Bengal government of misusing the name of Lord Jagannath for commercial gains rather than religious devotion. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee (ANI) Addressing a press conference here, the Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, said, "The West Bengal government is misusing the name of Lord Jagannath for commercial purposes. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not have the religious sentiment required to name the Digha temple as 'Jagannath Dham'." Clarifying his remarks, the 81-year-old seer pointed out that Puri's economy is significantly supported by pilgrims from West Bengal. "Even Mamata Banerjee knows that Puri thrives because of Bengali devotees. Local servitors, hotels, and traders benefit from this," he said. "To stop the flow of revenue from Bengal to Odisha, she (Mamata) has constructed a Jagannath Temple in Digha and termed it as 'Dham'. Using the 'Dham' tag is not acceptable," the seer said, adding she thinks Bengali pilgrims will now spend money in Digha. Replying a question, he also criticised ISKCON for conducting different rituals and festivals of Lord Jagannath, including Rath Yatra, on different dates and days not in accordance with the scriptures. AAP suspends Gujarat MLA hours after he quit all party posts alleging caste bias
Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party of caste-based discrimination, Umesh Makwana, the MLA from Gujarat's Botad, resigned from all party posts on Thursday, reported The Indian Express. Hours later, the party suspended him for five years, alleging that he was involved in 'anti-party' and 'anti-Gujarat' activities. After announcing his resignation, Makwana, a member of the Koli community that is categorised as an Other Backward Class, said he would consult his constituents before deciding whether to resign as MLA. Makwana alleged during a press conference that the Aam Aadmi Party, like other political parties, had 'failed to support backward communities beyond elections'. 'The party does not raise its voice for backward communities,' Makwana was quoted as saying by The Indian Express 'When it comes to giving key posts, preference is given to the swarna samaj [upper castes].' He also claimed that today the Aam Aadmi Party was 'deviating from the principles of Dr BR Ambedkar', ANI reported. Makwana told the news agency that he would 'discuss with some people whether or not to form a separate party'. Makwana accused the party of caste-based bias in campaign support, citing the recent bye-polls in Kadi and Visavadar. 'The party leaders concentrated only on the Visavadar poll and invested all resources there because Gopal Italia is a Patidar,' The Hindu quoted Makwana as saying.
