Photos: Up to 15K tickets sold for ‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs' exhibit in Tokyo
Japan's capital city Tokyo is currently hosting the 'Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs' exhibition, with metro stations, building facades and streets surrounding the exhibition hall were decorated with an image of the wooden coffin of King Ramses II.
The Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, and the Mayor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, officially opened the exhibition on Friday, which will continue until September.
Up to 15,000 tickets have been sold so far, a few hours before the opening of the exhibition in Tokyo.
On Thursday morning, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, headed to the exhibition hall to follow up on the final touches of the halls and the placement of the artifacts.
This inspection tour came to follow up on the exhibition's readiness to receive visitors, its placement of artifacts, information signs and decor, alongside proper implementation of all security procedures.
Khaled said that the way the exhibition's collections are displayed enables visitors to enjoy viewing all exhibits in a dazzling way with ease of movement between the halls.
He also referred to the successes achieved by the exhibition during its external journey over the past four years.
This exhibition is one of the means to promote and advertise for the Egyptian tourist destination in light of the ministry's current strategy under the slogan 'Egypt – Unparalleled Tourism Diversity', where a tourism pavilion was set up for the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion on the sidelines of the exhibition throughout its stay in Tokyo.
The pavilion includes a group of promotional materials and films about the Egyptian tourist destination and its diverse and different components, products and tourism patterns.
The pavilion also includes tourist maps about Egypt in the Japanese language.
The 'Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs' exhibition features 180 carefully selected artifacts from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir from the era of King Ramses II.
In addition, it proudly displays the sarcophagus of King Ramses II from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and other artifacts from the discoveries of the Egyptian mission in the Bubastis area of Saqqara, as well as assorted collections from various Egyptian museums.
These artifacts highlight distinct aspects of ancient Egypt from the Middle Kingdom to the Late Period, through a collection of statues, jewelry, cosmetics, paintings, stone blocks decorated with inscriptions, and colored wooden coffins.
The exhibition began its journey outside Egypt at its first stop in November 2021 in Houston, US, followed by its second stop in August 2022 in San Francisco, US, then its third stop in April 2023 in the French capital, Paris, and its fourth stop in November 2023 in Sydney, Australia to its fifth stop in July 2024 in Cologne, Germany.

KOICA Egypt holds workshop for volunteer programme partner organisations in Cairo
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Egypt Office, South Korea's official development assistance agency, held its 'Annual WFK (World Friends Korea) Volunteer Programme Partner Organisations Workshop' in Cairo on 29 May 2025. The event brought together representatives from KOICA's partner ministries and organisations in Egypt. The workshop, hosted at the Holiday Inn Maadi Hotel, aimed to enhance understanding of the KOICA Egypt Office'sWFK Volunteer Programme among newly partnering organisations and to facilitate the sharing of best practices and recommendations from current partners. The event was part of KOICA Egypt Office's initiative to broaden cooperation in areas such as Korean language education, physical education, music and art, and computer skills development, delivered through Korean volunteers in local communities across Egyptian governorates. Thirty participants attended, including representatives from the KOICA Egypt Office. Attendees also represented various Egyptian partner ministries and organisations where KOICA volunteers are active. These included Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS), Helwan University, Sadat City University, Luxor University, Beni Suef Technological University, the Higher Institute of Tourism and Hotels (EGOTH) in Luxor, the Higher Institute of Tourism and Hotels in 6th of October City, Misr public libraries of Cairo and Luxor, and the Taekwondo Training Centre in Aswan. Abdullah El Batesh, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, attended the workshop, offering congratulations and expressing a commitment to strengthening collaboration for the programme. University leaders also participated, exploring and discussing comprehensive collaboration on Korean language education within the context of tourism development at the higher education level. The workshop commenced with welcoming remarks from KOICA Egypt Office Country Director Jinyoung Kim and Abdullah El Batesh. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation covering KOICA's volunteer programme framework, the process for requesting and dispatching volunteers, activity outlines, and the undertakings of participating organisations. The Higher Institute of Tourism and Hotels in Luxor (EGOTH), a long-standing partner organisation, presented its experiences and the benefits derived from working with KOICA volunteers on its campus. Additionally, two currently serving KOICA volunteers, Oh Young Yu (MODLI, Cairo) and Hyeryeong Kim (MISR Public Library, Cairo), shared their on-site experiences and programme outcomes, offering firsthand insights into volunteer activities. A group discussion followed, during which participants reflected on their collaboration experiences, new partners shared their expectations, and actionable ideas for strengthening cooperation were proposed. This exchange aimed to build mutual understanding and synergy among attendees. Abdullah El Batesh stated, 'We look forward to applying KOICA's educational models in our youth centers. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity to align with our goals.' Ghada Tosson, Director of the University-Industry Cooperation Centre of Beni-Suef Technological University, commented, 'We have been cooperating with KOICA volunteers to offer students practical job skills opportunities for Korean language education and computing skills. We hope to strengthen our partnership to further enhance access to job markets for students in the Upper Egypt Region.' Beni-Suef Technological University was established in 2019 with the support of a KOICA grant programme (2016-2028, valued at $14m) and offers bachelor's degree programmes in mechatronics, autotronics, ICT, and railway technology. Jinyoung Kim, KOICA's Egypt Office Country Director, expressed her gratitude to all partner institutions. She stated,'Today's workshop was a meaningful occasion for planning our shared future and reinforcing our partnership,' and mentioned that active communication among stakeholders and diversified volunteer fields and activities are key to enhancing youth empowerment through the programme. The KOICA Egypt Office plans to continue working with educational and public institutions across Egypt to nurture young talent, promote cultural exchange, and contribute to sustainable community development. More than 20 volunteers are expected to be dispatched to work with youths across Egypt as of 2025. KOICA is a South Korean government agency operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It implements grant aid programmes aimed at combating poverty and supporting sustainable socio-economic growth in developing countries. The KOICA Egypt Office, established in 1998, focuses on providing technical education for youths, supporting the digitalisation of government services and systems, and carrying out programmes to address gender-based violence, strengthen women's empowerment, and support vulnerable groups.

Coinciding with this announcement, the city launched its official sustainability platform The website will serve as a knowledge hub and interactive platform, showcasing Sharm El Sheikh's environmental achievements, community initiatives, and progress in its green transition. It also provides tourists with up-to-date information on sustainable activities and hotel accommodations in the city, said Mohamed Aliwa, Green Sharm Project Manager This achievement is the result of four years of collaboration between the Ministry of Environment, the South Sinai Governorate, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Their joint efforts have helped position Sharm El Sheikh as a model for sustainable tourism and development in the region. According to South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda, this development reflects Sharm El Sheikh's status as the first green touristic city in Egypt and the Middle East. The transformation is built on key pillars including renewable energy, sustainable transportation, water conservation, waste management, and biodiversity protection. As part of its urgent environmental measures, the city has already banned single-use plastic bags in 50 hotels, the governor confirmed. Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad highlighted that 39 projects have been implemented to enhance the city's capacity to host international conferences, contributing to its reputation as a green destination for global dialogue. Fouad also noted that investments in renewable energy in the city have reached EGP 800 million, enabling the production of 51 megawatts of clean energy.

Turkish Ambassador Highlights 'Deep', 'Strong' Ties with Egypt
Nada Mustafa The Turkish Embassy in Cairo organized an event on the occasion of World Breakfast Day, featuring a rich array of traditional Turkish breakfast flavors. During the event, Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, told Egyptian journalists that two Turkish ministers are expected to visit Egypt this month. The World Breakfast Day celebration, observed annually on the first Sunday of June, was held at the Turkish Embassy in Cairo and attended by a select group of Egyptian journalists and distinguished guests. In his remarks, Şen emphasized that breakfast is a cornerstone of Turkish culture, and Turkey places great importance on promoting tourism and culinary arts. He noted that events like Turkish Cuisine Week and World Breakfast Day are organized in response to Egyptians' passion for Turkish food. The breakfast featured staple Turkish items such as cheeses, olives, jams, cucumbers, tomatoes, baguette bread, as well as hearty components like sujuk (Turkish sausage), pastrami, eggs, butter, honey, cream, yogurt, börek, and simit. Fruits, cakes, and biscuits were served as dessert after the meal. The sujuk served at the event was specially brought from Eskişehir, Ambassador Şen's hometown and one of the best-known regions in Turkey for sujuk production. Moreover, Turkish Ambassador highlighted the cultural and social value of breakfast in Turkish households, where families often enjoy breakfast together at home, in cafés, or in public parks on weekends. Furthermore, Şen mentioned that the Chief of Staff of Egypt recently visited Turkey, where he held meetings with Turkey's Minister of National Defense, the Chief of the General Staff, and various defense industry organizations. He added that the Turkish frigate TCG Gökçeada also visited the Port of Alexandria from May 27 to 29, and its commander met with the Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Admiral Ashraf Atwa. Şen also noted that two Turkish ministers are expected to visit Egypt in June, adding that Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, visited Cairo on May 6 to attend the D-8 Tourism Ministers' Meeting and met with Egyptian Minister of Culture Dr. Ahmed Heno, marking the start of a new era in cultural cooperation. Moreover, Şen revealed that joint musical performances between the two countries are planned for this year. In this regard, he expressed admiration for Egypt's legendary singer Umm Kulthum and shared his vision for a concert celebrating her legacy. Given Egypt's declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of Umm Kulthum,' a concert featuring music by Umm Kulthum and Mohamed Abdel Wahab is scheduled to be held. Şen also congratulated Turkish-Egyptian gymnast Adem Asil, who won two gold medals in the individual all-around and rings events at the European Gymnastics Championships in Germany, describing his achievements as a source of shared pride for both nations. In addition, he spoke about his recent cordial meeting with Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, expressing hope for an upcoming cooperation agreement between the two countries in the fields of youth and sports. On the economic front, Turkish ambassador discussed the advanced progress in restarting the Ro-Ro shipping line to boost trade cooperation between Turkey and Egypt, expressing eagerness for its resumption. He shared details of his meetings with representatives of Turkish company DeFacto, which has numerous stores in Egypt. Şen noted their confidence in Egypt's economic reform model and desire to expand their investments. Additionally, he highlighted his meeting with officials from Turkish company Penti Socks, which is investing in sock production in the 10th of Ramadan industrial zone. The company has reached the final phase of its investment, and Turkish investments in Egypt are expected to exceed $500 million this year. In conclusion, Şen announced a significant upcoming inauguration in the Suez Canal Economic Zone this month, to which he will invite key members of the press. He reaffirmed the importance of Turkish-Egyptian relations in promoting peace, stability, and development in the region, stating that both nations are making confident strides toward a promising future.
