BINTULU (June 4): The Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) Bintulu celebrated a momentous occasion yesterday morning with a flag-raising ceremony commemorating its 66th anniversary, alongside the 63rd anniversary of the Bintulu branch.
The event brought together party members and supporters in a solemn yet spirited gathering, underscoring the party's legacy, resilience, and enduring commitment to Sarawak's development.
Tanjong Batu assemblyman and SUPP Bintulu chairman Johnny Pang Leong Ming, in his speech, paid tribute to the party's humble beginnings, noting that SUPP was born during difficult times, with limited resources but abundant passion and determination.
'This flag-raising ceremony is more than a tradition. It is a reminder of our party's journey, values, and mission.
'It symbolises our shared commitment to serve the people, to stand united, and to build a better future,' he said.
Pang acknowledged the sacrifices of the party's pioneers, whose tireless efforts laid the foundation for the peace and progress Sarawakians enjoy today.
'The people do not give us power, they give us trust and responsibility. SUPP exists to serve the people. Our strength lies in unity, and our future depends on teamwork,' he reminded attendees.
As a core component of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, he said SUPP reaffirmed its dedication to upholding Sarawak's rights and fostering further growth for the state.
'Our duty is not to enjoy the rewards, but to keep contributing,' he said, urging all members to stay humble, committed, and forward-looking. anniversary flag-raising ceremony johnny pang Sarawak United People's Party

RM250,000 concrete drain completed at Lrg Semaba 7 to tackle flooding issues
Yap (second left) and others seen at the site of the completed concrete drain at the T-junction of Lorong Semaba 7. KUCHING (June 7): The construction of a concrete drain at the T-junction of Lorong Semaba 7 has been completed at the cost of RM250,000, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap. He said the rural transformation programme (RTP) project had resolved long-standing drainage and flooding issues in the area. 'With the completion of this phase, residents in the neighbourhood can now look forward to improved water flow, reduced flood risk and better overall living conditions,' he said in a statement. He emphasised that the initiative is more than just a basic infrastructure upgrade. 'It is a commitment to ensure that every part of Kota Sentosa is not left behind in terms of infrastructure. Too many of our older residential areas still suffer from outdated or insufficient basic amenities. 'I am working tirelessly to correct that,' he added. Yap also revealed that the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has conducted survey and assessment works on the opposite side of the same T-junction, as well as another stretch of earth drains along Lorong Semaba 11. The proposed next phase will involve the construction of additional concrete drains, with a combined estimated cost of RM400,000, and MPP engineers are currently preparing the Bill of Quantities to move the project forward. Reaffirming his commitment to infrastructure development, Yap said he will continue to advocate for improvements under the RTP and other government allocations. 'Development cannot be concentrated in one area. As your elected representative, I will continue to press for improvements – street by street, lorong (lane) by lorong – so that all residents of Kota Sentosa enjoy the benefits of proper, modern infrastructure.' Yap also highlighted that his efforts are aligned with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government's focus on inclusive development and narrowing the infrastructure gap, particularly in semi-urban and suburban communities. He emphasised that infrastructure is not just about roads and drains. 'It's about dignity, safety and improving the quality of life for the people I serve. I will not rest until every kampung, taman and lorong in Kota Sentosa sees tangible progress,' he pledged. concrete drain flooding jalan semaba lead Wilfred Yap

Dapsy Sarawak to SUPP: Sarawakians deserve answers, not political drama
George Lam KUCHING (June 5): The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Sarawak has urged its political opponent, the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) to stop the blame game and provide the answers that Sarawakians seek. Responding to SUPP labelling every question raised by DAP and every concern voiced by the public as an 'obstacle' to development, Dapsy Sarawak secretary George Lam said SUPP's approach 'is not just wrong but also dangerous for democracy'. 'Focus on the real questions we're asking on behalf of the people. Sarawakians deserve answers, not political drama. And the more you try to silence us, the more the people will start to wonder: What exactly are you trying to hide?' he said in a statement today. To make matters worse, Lam said SUPP had gone as far as to claim that DAP's criticisms were somehow 'eroding Sarawak's political stability'. 'Let's be real, if your government has nothing to hide, why not just answer the questions? Why try to silence those who speak up? Why attack DAP just for doing our job? 'It's pretty clear to me that they don't want to talk about the real issues, so they try to distract everyone by blaming the opposition,' he added. Lam pointed out that the ruling state coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), of which SUPP is a component, holds nearly 80 out of the 82 seats in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), while DAP has only two. Given this, he questioned how DAP could possibly impede development or cause political instability. 'It doesn't even make sense. This is just an excuse to avoid being accountable. What worries me more is that, with such a huge majority, GPS can pass any bill they want — even ones that might affect people's rights — without any meaningful debate. 'And what does SUPP do? They clap, praise GPS and vote 'yes' every single time,' he said. Citing the RM100 million travel expenses budget as an example, Lam said that this was a huge amount of money for ordinary Sarawakians, but in the last DUN sitting, it was passed in one session with no explanation and no questions allowed. He quipped: 'Just like that. Is this how public money should be handled?' He said DAP has persistently raised questions to keep the government in check and make sure that the people's voices are heard. 'When policies don't make sense or when public funds are involved, we must speak up. But instead of answering, SUPP chooses to attack us. That's not leadership but fear,' added Lam. His text of speech was read by MSPLC vice chairman Adam Yii, who represented Lee, at the SUPP MSPLC flag raising ceremony held at the SUPP Piasau branch yesterday. 'Let us take a moment to reflect on the contributions of past leaders, who displayed courage and vision and laid the foundation for the progress we enjoy today. Their sacrifices remind us that leadership is about service, about standing up for what is right, and putting the people's interests above all else. We are indebted to them and we pledge to the carry the torch of this struggle with pride.' Lee said that since forming Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in 2018 together with the other component parties, SUPP has continued to play a vital role in shaping policies that empower the people and drive Sarawak's development. 'Together with our coalition partners, we have tirelessly worked to ensure that Sarawak's interests are always prioritised in every decision and action. SUPP within GPS has achieved many significant milestones, each one a vital step toward building a stronger, more advanced, and prosperous Sarawak for the benefit of its people,' he said. He also recalled some key achievements of SUPP alongside GPS, such as infrastructure development; economic growth; education and human capital development; sustainability and green development; as well as social welfare and community support, including the creation of the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) for senior citizens in Sarawak, alongside Sarawak community initiatives to ensure inclusive development that touches the lives of all level of society. 'As the people of Sarawak, we are stronger when we are united. Together, we can achieve Sarawak's full potential and ensure that no one is left behind in the tide of development. 'Today, as we raise this flag, let it serve as a reminder of who we are: a united people with shared hopes, guided by SUPP's values, and bound by a common goal. Let this flag inspire us to continue working toward a strong, inclusive, and progressive Sarawak — a Sarawak where every one of its people can succeed,' Lee said.
