Reports: Xavier's Sean Miller emerges as top candidate for Texas job
CINCINNATI, Ohio (WDTN) – Xavier head coach Sean Miller has emerged as a top candidate for the Texas Longhorns' vacant head coach position, the Austin American-Statesman reported Sunday.
Miller led Xavier to a 13-point comeback against Texas in the NCAA First Four on Wednesday. The Musketeers went on to win 86-80. The Longhorns parted ways with head coach Rodney Terry after the loss.
In two seasons as head coach and one as interim, Terry led the Longhorns to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances including an Elite Eight appearance in 2023.
Terry took over as interim head coach in the 2022-23 season after Chris Beard's mid-season firing.
Miller is a veteran head coach, leading 13 teams to the NCAA Tournament in 22 seasons. In his first stint at Xavier (2004-2009), the Musketeers made four NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight berth in 2008.
Miller spent 12 seasons as the head coach at Arizona where he led the Wildcats to four regular-season Pac-12 titles and three appearances in the Elite Eight.
Following his firing at Arizona, Miller returned to Xavier in 2022 where he has led the Musketeers to a Sweet Sixteen and First Round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Xavier's season came to an end Friday in the Round of 64 after an 86-73 loss to Illinois, bringing Miller's career record at Xavier to 185-87.

True freshmen shine as LSU baseball heads to College World Series
True freshmen shine as LSU baseball heads to College World Series True freshmen playing meaningful baseball in the SEC is a rarity with the talent level among all teams, but LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson takes a different approach it's paying off. Nobody in our league plays freshmen," Johnson said. "They just don't. We do, and they play pretty darn good baseball." In both rounds of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the youngsters gave LSU a boost. Derek Curiel remained a fixture near the top of the lineup while pitchers Casan Evans and Cooper Williams made high-leverage appearances. Curiel finished the West Virginia series with five RBI, four hits, including a home run, and three walks. Evans earned the win in relief during the regional championship game by throwing six innings of one run ball with 12 strikeouts. Williams pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in relief after the Tigers fell behind Little Rock. Johnson will continue to rely on the freshmen to move his team through the College World Series and beyond as he continues building the LSU program. "They just need to be themselves," Johnson said. "I'm proud of them for contributing on a team this good. To contribute as much as that has is awesome and they're the foundation of this thing moving forward." LSU will play begin its College World Series journey when the Tigers meet Arkansas at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Move to Europe would suit Miller, says Naismith
A move to Europe would suit midfielder Lennon Miller if he is to depart Motherwell this summer, says former Scotland striker Steven Naismith. The 18-year-old, who has just one year remaining on his Fir Park deal, is reportedly attracting interest from a number of clubs after a stellar campaign. Advertisement The youngster ended a memorable season with a first Scotland start, impressing in midfield and providing an assist in the 4-0 win in Liechtenstein. Ex-Hearts boss Naismith says he has "loved" seeing Scottish players, such as Lewis Ferguson, Josh Doig and Aaron Hickey, go abroad at a young age and feels Miller could be next to benefit from a move to the continent. "My generation, players going abroad was something that rarely happened," the former Rangers forward said on BBC Sportsound on Sunday. "European football would suit Miller better, because his big attributes are he's good technically and his awareness is very good. Advertisement "Other parts he can learn, Ferguson is the prime example of that. Ferguson's turned into a brilliant all-round midfielder. "Motherwell will get rewarded for their hard work [with a good fee]."
