Aston Martin's Stroll fit to race in Canada GP
Lance Stroll will be fit to race at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix after missing the last race in Spain with injury, his Aston Martin team have said.The 26-year-old Canadian pulled out of the Spanish Grand Prix after experiencing pain in his hands, which the team said was the legacy of an operation after a cycling accident in February 2023.The team said in a statement: "Lance had a successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms he has been experiencing and completed some laps in an old F1 car at Paul Ricard earlier this week."Lance is feeling fit and healthy, and is excited to compete in front of his home crowd."Stroll was quoted saying: "I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend. I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd. I'm feeling good after my procedure."
It emerged on race morning in Spain that Stroll had pulled out of the race in Barcelona as a consequence of pain from his previous injury. That news came in the wake of him losing his temper in the team's garage after he was knocked out of qualifying after the second session, in which he was more than 0.5 seconds slower than team-mate Fernando Alonso.Drivers are required to head straight to the FIA garage to be weighed after qualifying, which Stroll did not do until later. He was given a warning by stewards for his misdemeanour.Stewards said after investigating the incident that Stroll had written them a letter and "explained that the reason for failing to immediately attend the weighing was because he was in pain and sought urgent medical attention for the pain. "He attended the weigh-in and the media pen as soon as he was able to, before heading to the medical centre for further evaluation."

June 13 - Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck captured both the NHL's Hart and Vezina trophies for his brilliance during the 2024-25 campaign. The awards were announced on Thursday prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at the league's award show. The Professional Hockey Writers' Association awards the Hart Trophy to the NHL player deemed most valuable to his team during the regular season. The Vezina Trophy goes to the top goalie. Hellebuyck, a Michigan native, became the first goalkeeper to earn the Hart Trophy since the Montreal Canadiens' Carey Price in 2014-15. Moreover, he is just the fifth goalie to haul in the Vezina and Hart in the same year, joining Price, Jose Theodore (2001-02 Canadiens), Dominik Hasek (1996-97, 1997-98 Buffalo Sabres) and Jacques Plante (1961-62 Canadiens). "Looking back, I'll probably picture this day as one of the greatest of my career," Hellebuyck said of receiving the two trophies. Hellebuyck was a prohibitive favorite to win the Vezina. He earned 31 of 32 first-place votes, finishing well ahead of Tampa Bay's Andrei Vasilevskiy. It was the 32-year old's third Vezina -- he also earned the award in 2019-20 and 2023-24. The Hart voting was much closer, as Hellebuyck received 1,346 votes to Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl's 1,209. Hellebuyck led Winnipeg to the Presidents' Trophy with the most points in the league (116). He amassed a league-high 47 wins and eight shutouts and paced qualified goalies in goals-against average (2.00) while posting the second-best save percentage (.925). However, Hellebuyck struggled in the playoffs, recording a 6-7 record, a 3.08 GAA and a .866 save percentage. Winnipeg was ousted by the Dallas Stars in the second round. --Field Level Media

Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck has won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP and the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender, becoming the first at the position to do so since Carey Price a decade ago. Hellebuyck was unveiled as the top MVP vote-getter on an awards show Thursday night prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final, hosted by actor and former Arizona State wide receiver Isaiah Mustafa. Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl finished second in the Hart voting and Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov third, a single point ahead of Colorado's reigning MVP Nathan MacKinnon, as chosen by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Hellebuyck was a landslide winner of the Vezina as picked by general managers, receiving 31 of 32 first-place votes. Hellebuyck won the Vezina for a second year in a row and for the third time in his career. He backstopped the Jets to the Presidents' Trophy for the best regular season and the William Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed before losing in the second round of the playoffs to Dallas. Price was the last to pull off the Hart-Vezina double in 2015. Hellebuyck is just the sixth goalie to do it, joining Price, Jose Theodore in 2002, Dominik Hasek in 1997 and '98 and Jacques Plante in '62. A majority of the awards were already presented over the past few weeks, given out as surprises for the first time with no advanced notice.
