Kedarnath temple doors open for devotees after long wait
New Delhi: After months of anticipation, the sacred portals of Baba Kedarnath were opened for public darshan on Friday. With this, the Char Dham Yatra has officially commenced, allowing devotees to embark on the spiritual journey to the Himalayan shrines for the next six months.
The doors of Kedarnath Dham were opened amid grand religious ceremonies and the chanting of Vedic hymns in the presence of thousands of devotees. The auspicious moment was marked by a festive and devotional atmosphere as pilgrims gathered to witness the spiritually significant event.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has been actively monitoring the pilgrimage preparations, expressed his commitment to ensuring smooth travel and registration for the devotees.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, 'I visited Rishikesh, the first halt of the Yatra, to review the arrangements. We've held discussions with stakeholders and directed officials to maintain active communication with pilgrims throughout the journey.'
He further added, 'We wait for the doors of Baba Kedarnath to open each year with great devotion. This year, the Char Dham Yatra began on April 30 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. I had the good fortune of being present at the opening of the Ganga shrine in Gangotri and feel blessed to be part of these divine moments. Two days from now, the doors of Badrinath Dham will also open.'
Highlighting the efforts of local contributors, the Chief Minister appreciated the team handling logistics and transportation, particularly noting the contribution of Himanshu Chamoli and his team. 'I appreciate the efforts of Himanshu Chamoli and his entire team for ensuring good transportation and proper arrangements at the stations during the journey,' he said.
'The traders along the pilgrimage routes are vital to the Yatra as it forms the backbone of their livelihood. Their role is invaluable to the state and region.'
This year, Kedarnath Temple has been adorned like never before. The Pushp Samiti from Rishikesh and Gujarat has decked the temple with a breathtaking 108 quintals of vibrant flowers. The colourful blooms have added an aura of divine beauty and fragrance to the already majestic shrine, leaving devotees mesmerised.

Kedarnath Dham Yatra resumes as admin clears debris following landslide
The Kedarnath Dham Yatra has resumed in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district after the administration cleared debris from multiple locations caused by a landslide on Sunday. The Yatra was temporarily suspended following the landslide, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others. According to a statement from the Rudraprayag Police, the landslide was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, which caused large amounts of debris and stones to fall onto the trekking route, blocking and damaging the walkway to Kedarnath Dham. Officials further noted that a yellow alert has been issued for the region, predicting continuous rainfall throughout the week. As a precaution and in view of the safety of the devotees, the footpath to the Kedarnath Dham from Sonprayag has been suspended. Rudraprayag Police have also urged all devotees en route to Kedarnath Dham to remain in nearby hotels and safe accommodations, and advised those planning the Char Dham Yatra to monitor weather forecasts and travel advisories closely. "The footpath was blocked due to debris falling in the ravine near Jangalchatti. The footpath to Kedarnath Dham has been suspended from Sonprayag till further orders. According to the information received some time ago, the footpath to Kedarnath Dham has been partially blocked due to debris falling in the ravine due to continuous heavy rain near Jangalchatti. According to the information received so far, one person has died and 02 people have been injured due to debris falling in the ravine," the statement from the Rudraprayag Police read. Chopper crash: Heli services suspended till Mon, Dhami orders probe
Dehradun/New Delhi: In the wake of the Kedarnath helicopter crash that claimed seven lives, the Uttarakhand govt suspended all Aryan Aviation operations for the Char Dham Yatra with immediate effect. As a precaution, Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) halted all chartered and shuttle flights in the region on June 15 and 16. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a high-level probe into the incident and directed strict action in case of negligence. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Dhami with senior govt officials, civil aviation secretary, DGCA representatives and other stakeholders at his residence on Sunday. At the meeting, it was decided that two TransBharat Aviation helicopters—VT-TBC (Capt Yogesh Grewal, CPL(H)-1453) and VT-TBF (Capt Jitender Harjai, CPL(H)-1046)—had flown in similar unfavourable conditions, prompting six-month licence suspensions for both pilots. Dhami said, "Protecting the lives of people is our top priority. Any lapse that risks lives will not be tolerated. The CM said only pilots with extensive experience in flying in high Himalayan terrain will be allowed to operate in the Char Dham sector. The centre will include officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the disaster management department, civil aviation, UCADA and representatives of heli-operator companies. Dhami also instructed the formation of a technical committee under the home secretary to draft a new standard operating procedure (SOP) prioritising public safety. The SOP will mandate pre-flight technical checks, accurate weather assessments, installation of live weather cameras at helipads, and the deployment of experienced pilots. Only twin-engine helicopters will be allowed for commercial operations. The committee, comprising officials from DGCA, UCADA, the ministry of civil aviation and Air Traffic Control (ATC), is expected to submit its report by Sept. The CM also called for stricter enforcement of DGCA guidelines and ordered the installation of advanced weather forecasting systems in the Himalayan region to improve flight safety. "The helicopter services must be completely safe, transparent and in accordance with prescribed standards. Passenger safety cannot be compromised, especially in the sensitive and high-altitude Char Dham region," Dhami said. The Rudraprayag district administration has been tasked with facilitating the safe return of the victims' mortal remains to their respective states. Senior officials, including chief secretary Anand Bardhan, DGCA director general Faiz Ahmad Kidwai, civil aviation secretary Sameer Kumar Sinha and disaster management authorities, attended the meeting virtually.
