Man JAILED for repeatedly harassing ex-partner despite restraining order
An Isle of Wight man has been jailed for repeatedly harassing his ex-partner – despite an active restraining order. Liam Trott, 32, of Grange Road in Shanklin, appeared at the IW Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, August 5, after previously admitting two counts of breaching a restraining order. The latest offences, which occurred on June 11, came just four months after Trott received a suspended 14-month prison sentence for breaching the same restraining order. That sentence, handed down on February 7, had been suspended for two years. Liam Trott's police custody image (Image: Hampshire and IW Constabulary) Recommended reading: Burglar targeted pub and hair salon and raided charity box Man who attacked ex and burst into neighbour's home 'like a raging bull' JAILED Prosecutor Casey Chard said Trott's former partner was at her home preparing to go to the shops with her children and a friend on the day of the offence. As they sat in the car, Trott approached, preventing them from leaving, blocking the vehicle and told them he would jump on the car if they tried to drive off, the court heard. Mr Chard said that during the confrontation, which happened in the presence of their young daughter, Trott demanded his ex-partner get the restraining order removed. Trott then leaned into the vehicle and kissed her, saying he would 'wait for her,' Mr Chard added. In a victim impact statement, Trott's former partner described feeling unsafe in her own home and 'a nervous wreck.' She said she is embarrassed to speak to neighbours and lives in fear, not knowing where Trott might be. The court heard Trott had previously breached the same restraining order on multiple occasions. Defending, Jonathan Underhill said his client had already been in custody since his last court date on June 14 at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court. Mr Underhill told the court Trott 'struggles with the concept of authority' but had begun to understand that his concern about his daughter and issues with social services – said to be the reason behind the incident – did not justify breaching a court order. 'There is a degree of regret for his actions,' Mr Underhill said, adding that Trott, who was employed at a sandwich bar in Lake, still believed he had acted as any father would. However, Judge William Ashworth rejected this reasoning, highlighting the repeated breaches and the emotional toll inflicted on his victim. 'This is your fourth proceeding in relation to your ex-partner,' the judge said. 'Your intention is not to give up, and she feels unsafe in her own home and is scared to leave.' Judge Ashworth said Trott had caused 'very serious harm and distress." Trott was jailed for 34 months.

Man caught trespassing on train track with a knife
AN ISLE of Wight man in crisis caught with a knife while trespassing on a railway track in Ryde will learn his fate later this year. Johnathan Weaver, of Barton Road, Newport, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, August 15. The 41-year-old admitted possession of a knife in a public place, and trespassing in proximity of a railway, in Ryde, on July 16. Prosecutor, Giles Fletcher, said the case related to an incident at Ryde Esplanade Railway Station. Read more: Man 'in a bad mood' violently assaulted his own father with a stick Motorist accused of careless driving after serious Church Litten incident He said Weaver had already been convicted of an offence involving a knife in 2015, which means he is now facing a six-month jail term as a minimum, unless it is deemed there were exceptional circumstances. The court heard he was on the train track, deeper issues were involved, and a pre-sentence report was needed. Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Weaver was discharged from Sevenacres earlier in the day and was clearly in a mental health crisis at the time. He said Weaver had made remarkable progress since the incident and a probation report would be invaluable. Weaver's case was adjourned to October 24. He was granted unconditional bail.

Man arrested after Bournemouth footballer reported racist abuse at match
A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.' He added: 'There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. 'As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players.' A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said: 'Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against Bournemouth. 'We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football. 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'
