Lorry driver gets 10 years in jail, 20 strokes for raping 11-year-old daughter

KLANG: A lorry driver who raped his own daughter was slapped with a ten-year jail term and ordered to be whipped 20 times after he pleaded guilty to the two charges levelled against him.
Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali also ordered the 37-year-old man to undergo counselling and police supervision for two years after completing his sentence.
According to the charge sheet, the father of two, had raped his daughter, who is currently 11-years-old, once in November last year and again in May this year at the family home in Meru near here.
The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency as he had a wife and two children to support.
'I regret what I had done and swear not to do it again," said the man, who according to the facts of the case, had raped his daughter, on both occasions, when his wife was not home.
DPP Nurul Jannah Aimi sought a heavy penalty because the accused had committed a serious crime in the wake of an increase in sexual violence cases against children in Selangor.
'The accused, as the father, had the obligation to care for and raise the victim, but had instead betrayed her with his disgraceful conduct," she said, adding the victim would be traumatised all her life over what had happened.
In the same court, a 19-year-old public university student also pleaded guilty to sexually violating his cousin.
The youth was slapped with three charges for sexually abusing the presently eight-year-old child once in 2023 and twice this year.
In the first charge, the eldest child of four siblings was accused of performing cunnilingus on the child in a house at Sungai Buloh in March this year.
In the second charge, he was accused of touching the girl's private parts in the same premise the following day after he had performed oral sex on her.
In the third charge, the youth had allegedly placed his penis on the girl's vagina at the same house in September 2023.
He was charged under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which comes with a prison term of up to 20 years and whipping, for all three offences.
DPP Nur Ayuni Jamri did not offer any bail, citing the gravity of the case but asked for RM15,000 with one surety if the court decided to grant the accused bail.
She also wanted the court to order the youth or his representatives not to contact the prosecution's witnesses.
In pleading for a lower bail amount, the youth, who was unrepresented, said he had self-reflected during the almost one month he was under remand and regretted his conduct.
'I am remorseful about what I have done and this is my first offence.
'I have three siblings, and my father is the sole breadwinner.
'I plead for the bail amount to be lowered," said the accused.
Siti Aminah set Aug 20 for sentencing as well as submission of a report by the Social Welfare Department, as the accused was still young.
Apart from the two accused, at least four other men were charged for various sexual offences against children in the same court.

Interior Designer Cleaned Out Of RM794,000 By 'Csecdt' Online Investment Scam

GEORGE TOWN, June 19 (Bernama) -- An interior designer from Bukit Mertajam lost RM794,000 after falling victim to an online investment syndicate recently. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the victim, a 47-year-old woman, came forward to file a report with the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters on Monday, claiming she had been cheated by a syndicate known as 'Csecdt'. "In early April 2025, the victim claimed to have seen a high-return investment, advertised on Facebook and she contacted the suspect, a woman via the Whatsapp. "Through the investment scheme, the victim was promised a 100 per cent profit for each capital sum invested within a short period of time," he said in a statement tonight. According to Hamzah, the victim was convinced with the online investment and was duly asked to download the 'Csecdt' application to register as a member and to start investing. He said the victim then made seven money transfer transactions into seven bank accounts belonging to different companies, between April 11 and June 3. "The victim first realised she had been cheated when she wanted to withdraw profits amounting to RM2 million but she was instead asked to pay a withdrawal tax of RM200,000 first, and decided to lodge a police report," he said. He said investigations were still underway and the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. -- BERNAMA

KLIA Customs officers foil RM2.65 mln drug smuggling attempts

SEPANG: Customs officers have foiled multiple attempts to smuggle 30.14 kilogrammes (kg) of drugs estimated to be worth RM2.65 million through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said that on April 17, a man was arrested for trying to smuggle out 14.65 kg of cannabis buds worth almost RM1.44 million in his checked baggage on a flight to a European country. He said the man was subjected to a baggage inspection after his travel was blocked by the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) due to a blacklist record. 'During the baggage scan, the man attempted to flee but was apprehended by Customs personnel. 'The inspection found that the cannabis buds were packed in vacuum-sealed plastic to avoid detection,' he told a press conference today. Zulkifli said on May 16, Customs found 5.31 kg of ecstasy worth almost RM900,000 that was being smuggled in through a consignment at a cargo terminal operator in the KLIA Free Trade Zone. He said the drugs, believed to have originated from a European country, were packaged and declared as laptop components. Then, on May 24, he said that 10.18 kg of syabu, worth nearly RM300,000, concealed in a consignment along with clothing, was also intercepted. He said investigations into both drug shipments are underway, but face obstacles as the smugglers were likely using fake company names and addresses. 'We have gone to the (premises) as declared in the consignment information, but the company either does not exist or is using someone else's address,' he said.
