100 Gadchiroli anganwadis to be converted into ‘Nand Ghars'
Nagpur: In a significant development, 100 anganwadis in Gadchiroli district will be transformed into modern 'Nand Ghars' with e-learning facilities by Vedanta Group's Anil Agarwal Foundation.
'Nand Ghar' is a flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) project to modernise tribal schools.
The 'Nand Ghars' will provide early childhood education and nutritional support to the children in the morning and conduct health and micro-enterprise awareness programmes for women in the afternoon. This innovative initiative is being implemented under the vision of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
To execute this initiative, department of women and child development has facilitated a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad and Anil Agarwal Foundation.
The MoU was signed by Gadchiroli ZP CEO Suhas Gade, and Shashi Arora, CEO, Nand Ghar, Vedanta.
As part of the project, the anganwadis will be upgraded with modern infrastructure. Children aged 3 to 6 will receive pre-primary education and nutritional support in the morning session, while women will participate in afternoon programmes focusing on health awareness and micro-enterprise development.
The upgraded anganwadis will cater to nearly 3,900 children aged 0 to 6, along with over 600 pregnant and lactating women.
Additionally, 1,134 adolescent girls will receive skill development training in afternoon sessions. This initiative is expected to address health issues in remote areas of Gadchiroli and empower women economically by providing livelihood-oriented training. The govt also plans to scale this initiative across the state.
Each upgraded centre will feature colourful, child-friendly interiors and be equipped with basic amenities, including LED TVs for e-learning.
Training will also be provided to anganwadi workers on e-learning tools, and to accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) for delivering health services.
The ZP will coordinate the project by providing list of eligible anganwadis, appointing district-level nodal officer, overseeing branding, and ensuring regular maintenance. Infrastructure such as water supply, toilets, electricity, and healthcare services will be ensured. A joint working group will be established to monitor and implement the project effectively. This initiative underscores CM's commitment to inclusive growth and highlights his compassionate approach to developmental governance.

Getting tested for HIV, syphilis first step towards motherhood: Saran civil surgeon
Chhapra: Saran civil surgeon (CS) Dr Sagar Dulal Sinha has said that getting tested for HIV and syphilis is the first step in accepting the responsibility of motherhood for any pregnant woman. Making this appeal to the newly wed couple, the CS on Monday said that the symptoms of the two diseases may not be visible in the beginning, and if remained undetected, the infection may pass on to the child creating serious health problems, even death. "Pregnant women must come forward for the HIV test without any fear or hesitation. In case, the blood sample confirms the presence of HIV or syphilis beforehand, the foetus could be saved from adverse effects. The facilities for these tests are available in all govt health centres free of cost, the CS said, adding Ashas, ANMs and other health workers have been creating awareness about these tests in different villages. The CS suggested to get these tests for marriage to be on a safe side. The CS said that unsafe sex, use of infected syringe or needle, and infected blood transfusion are some of the possible reasons for the infection of HIV or syphilis.

At least 50% of medical procedures should be done in govt facilities: CM
Nashik: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday announced a significant overhaul of the state's healthcare system. Speaking at the inauguration of "Centre for Health, Applied Knowledge and Research Autonomy" (Chakra) at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Nashik, Fadnavis said his goal for govt medical facilities to become so robust that they handle at least 50% of the medical procedures currently covered by the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY). The CM highlighted that 13 crore people in the state are covered for up to Rs5 lakh under the MPJAY scheme. He emphasized his directive to the health and medical education departments to strengthen the secondary and tertiary healthcare systems to achieve the 50% target, thereby ensuring these facilities benefit from the scheme's procedures. Fadnavis affirmed the govt's commitment to revamping the healthcare system. He noted that tertiary health centers are currently burdened with responsibilities typically handled by the primary health centers. The govt, in order to address this, plans to fortify primary and secondary health centers, enabling tertiary centers to operate on a hub-and-spoke model. This strategic approach aims to expand healthcare accessibility across Maharashtra. The CM said over the past 25 years, MUHS has done extraordinary work. Universities are expected to conduct research and work as centres of different issues. If varsities limit themselves to the management of their institutes and syllabus, they will not grow. The best universities in the world are centres of excellence, centres of incubation, and they are involved in research, startups.
