Police seek help from TikTok over fake claim
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are jointly investigating the matter.
'We are waiting for TikTok to provide information to support the investigation. I leave it to the police and MCMC to obtain the details and take appropriate legal action.'
Fahmi earlier attended an arts and culture promotion programme at the People's Housing Project in Kerinchi.
The issue came to light after an individual posted online that he had attended the student's autopsy.
Fahmi had earlier stated that the TikTok account during a livestream alleged the user was present at the post-mortem on Aug 10. However, the Health Ministry verified that he was neither a specialist nor a ministry staff member.
Authorities are also investigating the account '@berjuanguntukzara' for disseminating inaccurate information, including conspiracy theories and bullying-related content.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Zara Qairina was found unconscious after reportedly falling from the third floor of her school hostel in Papar on July 16 and died the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I.

The AGC said the decision was made after reviewing the investigation report submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police in connection with the death of the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha student on Aug 12. According to the AGC, the inquest proceedings aim to establish the cause of death and determine whether there were any criminal elements involved. 'This process will be conducted at the Coroner's Court independently and transparently under the provisions of the law,' the statement read. The AGC said the decision to proceed with an inquest was in line with subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code [Act 593]. Coroner's Court in Kota Kinabalu set to hear 195 witnesses in Zara Qairina inquest, starting Sept 3
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 18 — The Coroner's Court here has fixed September 3 for the start of the inquest into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir to determine any criminal elements. Lawyer for the family, Hamid Ismail, said that the inquest will be heard before coroner judge Azreena Aziz and could involve up to 195 witnesses, though the final number will be determined by the Attorney General's Chambers. 'The mention for the request has been completed smoothly. The inquest is set for September 3 until September 30, 2025,' he told reporters after court proceedings here. The court fixed the hearings for 3 to 4 September, 8 to 12 September, 17 to 19 September and 22 to 30 September. Reporters were at the courthouse this morning ahead of the 9am proceedings, with police present to maintain order around the premises. Last week, the Attorney General's Chambers decided to hold an inquest into the death of Zara Qairina after reviewing the investigation report submitted by the police. Man arrested for setting fire to family home in Kedah
SUNGAI PETANI: A 39-year-old man has been arrested for setting fire to his family home in Sungai Lalang, Bedong, yesterday. The incident also destroyed a neighbouring house. Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the suspect, the complainant's younger brother, was detained shortly after the fire. "Initial investigations found that the suspect admitted to starting the blaze by lighting pieces of paper with a lighter inside the house. "The incident followed a quarrel, and the suspect went on a rampage before setting the fire," he said in a statement today. Hanyan said the suspect and the complainant lived in the wooden-and-brick house with another sibling. "No drugs or prohibited substances were found during checks. The suspect's urine test returned negative and he had no history of mental illness," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and a fine. Earlier, firefighters rescued a man during the 7.52pm incident. Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohd Naim Mat Jaafar said the fire destroyed two houses before it was brought under control.
