It's very special: swim star eyes legend's landmark
Ian Thorpe believes there's no end in sight to Mollie O'Callaghan's greatness as the swim phenom prepares to take down his legendary landmark. O'Callaghan on Friday is favoured to surpass Thorpe's Australian record for most gold medals at world championships. The 21-year-old joined Thorpe with 11 golds at worlds when anchoring Australia's triumphant women's 4x200m freestyle relay in Singapore on Thursday night. "It is very special," O'Callaghan said. "Like, it would be wrong if I said it wasn't special, it's a huge accomplishment in a way." Thorpe expects his record to tumble when red-hot favourite O'Callaghan races the women's 100m freestyle final on Friday night. "I look at her, and I see the gold medallist," Thorpe said in commentary for Channel Nine. "She will go far beyond 11 (golds). "And looking ... beyond for Mollie O'Callaghan, is the opportunity not only at the world championships but multiple Olympics." O'Callaghan has already matched Thorpe's five Olympic golds. Retired swim great Emma McKeon holds the Australian record for most Olympic golds, six. At the Singapore worlds, Australia top the medal tally with three nights of competition remaining with five golds, one more than the United States. The Dolphins have also won one silver and five bronze medals, including one to Kyle Chalmers in Thursday night's men's 100m freestyle final. Chalmers finished behind Romania's David Popovici who posted the second-fastest time ever, 46.51 seconds, followed by American Jack Alexy (46.92). The South Australian 27-year-old touched in 47.17 - his personal best is 47.08 but he remains steadfast that he can break the 47-second barrier. "Just kind of reinventing myself in the sport and finding a new way to swim fast," Chalmers said. "I'm just really grateful to have a really supportive team that believe in me, or probably believe in me more than I have believed in myself since Paris (Olympics) last year. "It's quite challenging to be beaten by a whole second in an Olympic final and then try and reset and believe you can be good enough to continue to compete in that event." Chalmers clocked 47.48 in snaring silver at last year's Olympics behind China's Pan Zhanle, who won in a world record 46.40. "I have to focus completely on myself," Chalmers said. "I'm not focusing on racing the person next to me or what other people are doing. "I'm focusing on my technique and my skill execution and my stroke rate and things that I know is going to make me be able to compete with these guys when it matters most in LA (2028 Olympics)."

Naracoorte man's holiday joke turns into $900,000 win
A Naracoorte man has returned home from holiday with more than just a tan after discovering he scored $900,000 while he was away. The successful South Australian held one of the seven Division 1 winning entries nationally in the X Lotto draw 4589, drawn on Saturday, July 12. Each Division 1 winner pocketed $919,024.03. As the winning entry wasn't registered to The Lott Members Club, officials had no way of contacting the ticketholder and had to wait for him to check his ticket and come forward. 'I'm not bad today!' he laughed while speaking to an official from The Lott. 'You wouldn't believe it, the day after the draw, we went on holiday, so the ticket was sitting in my car for a whole two weeks until we got home. 'While we were away, my wife said, 'Wow. Someone won Saturday X Lotto in Naracoorte'. I joked and said, 'It could be me, I have an unregistered ticket at home!'. 'I didn't even think twice about it. I honestly was just joking. I never would have thought it was actually me! 'Finally, I checked the ticket when we got home, and I was blown away. 'I didn't sleep at all that night!' With a $900,000 windfall heading his way, the happy winner said he's looking forward to a laid-back retirement, a tasty treat, and another getaway. 'It's the best news ever. We'll be able to retire a little earlier than we thought,' he said 'We'll have a nice quiet meal to celebrate, and we might just book another holiday now!' The winning entry was purchased from Plaza Kiosk at the Kincraig Plaza Shopping Centre. Owner Rachel Anderson said she was thrilled her outlet had sold its first Division 1 winning entry since taking over ownership five years ago. 'I was so happy and excited when I first heard we had sold a winning Division 1 ticket. I couldn't stop reading the email!' she laughed. 'Our outlet has been celebrating with huge decorations. We've been dishing out lollies and chocolates for everyone! 'The most exciting part is that this is our first-ever Division 1 win. I've owned the outlet for five years, so I'm thrilled. 'From all the team here at Plaza Kiosk, we sincerely say congratulations and we are delighted to be included in making someone a winner.' The winning numbers were 36, 9, 37, 35, 23 and 29, while the supplementary numbers were 20 and 31. There were three other Division 1 winners each in Victoria and Western Australia.

Police deliver major update in search for the missing head of Julian Story, allegedly murdered by a former Beauty and the Geek star
South Australian Police believe that a head found by a member of the public is that of Julian Story, who was allegedly murdered by former Beauty and the Geek star Tamika Chesser. SA Police Major Crime boss Darren Fielke told a press conference today that a human head had been found on Thursday by a member of the public in scrubland near Port Lincoln. "Earlier today, police received information from a member of the public in Port Lincoln that they had located in a scrub area what appeared to be a human skull. 'There are some walking tracks through there, my understanding is the person who contacted us today was walking their dog in the area. The dog ran off into the scrub, it didn't come back when called.' He said police believe the head to be the remains of Mr Story, who was allegedly murdered by former Beauty and The Geek star Tamika Chaser on June 17. 'Julian's family have been contacted today and provided an update in relation to what has been located and what the ongoing process is from here. Hopefully we can give them some comfort that we have found all the remains of Julian,' he said. The discovery comes after police were notified about potential new site zones, which turned up an Elvis t-shirt, a drink bottle and a wristband in a cemetery near Port Lincoln. Ms Chaser, who took part in the 2010 season of the show, was charged with murder and interfering with human remains with intent to pervert the course of justice. She appeared in court via video link on Thursday in relation to three separate matters and is yet to be formally interviewed by police over the alleged murder of Mr Story. On the night of the alleged murder, police believe Ms Chesser was captured on CCTV walking her dogs wearing a head covering. She is alleged to have lit a fire to dispose of Mr Story's remains, which were spotted by a member of the public who thought it was a smouldering fire - only to learn from police and the press that it was the remains of Mr Story.
