In floor speech, Rep. Nancy Mace accuses ex-fiance, others of sexual abuse, rape

Yahoo11-02-2025
Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina on Monday night accused her ex-fiance and three other men of sexually abusing and exploiting women and underage girls for more than a decade, stating she was one of their victims.
Mace -- a Republican firebrand who has made her name over the past year by supporting bills framed as seeking to protect women and girls -- alleged from the House floor that the four men incapacitated women, whom they raped and filmed while their victims were wholly unaware. She claimed they also took lewd and nonconsensual photos and videos of women and underage girls.
Though she provided no evidence, she said she had found thousands of videos and photos of the crimes and personally identified almost a dozen alleged victims.
"Today, I'm going scorched Earth, so let the bridges I burn this evening light our way forward," she said at the start of her more than 50-minute speech, which was unexpected and seemingly unprompted.
She accused the men by name of rape, sex trafficking, voyeurism and sexual abuse against women, of filming and photographing their alleged crimes and of exchanging money between each other in the process.
"When you incapacitate women, it's against the law. When you sexually assault women, it's called rape. If you film women naked without their knowledge, without their permission and without their consent, it's called voyeurism and it makes you a Peeping Tom. And it is illegal.
"When you and your business partners -- like these, all business partners," she said, gesturing to a placard displaying pictures of the four men with their names printed underneath, "when you and your business partners pay each other and you sexually abuse women, it's called sex trafficking and it is against the law. And by definition, that makes you a sex trafficker."
Her ex-fiance, Patrick Bryant, and the three other men she accused have denied the allegations, NBC News reported.
"I categorically deny these allegations," Bryant said in a statement. "I take this matter seriously and will cooperate fully with any necessary legal processes to clear my name."
Mace, who is expected to run for South Carolina governor in 2026, spoke from the floor, protected by the Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution, which shields congressmen from both civil and criminal lawsuits for alleged crimes such as slander when acting within their legislative role.
She said she first uncovered evidence of the alleged crimes in November 2023, and when she presented it to law enforcement, she was informed that she would be investigated.
During her speech, she railed against a system she described as failing to protect women -- a system she said she would burn "to the ground if I have to."
She accused South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson of being a "do-nothing attorney general" and of treating women "like criminals" who come forward with sexual assault allegations.
Wilson, a Republican, was quick to refute her charges as being "categorically false." In a statement, his office said it has not received any reports or requests for assistance from any law enforcement of prosecuting agencies concerning her allegations and that Wilson and his office had no knowledge of her claims until she made them public Monday night.
"Congresswoman Mace and the Attorney General have been at multiple events together over the last six months. She also has the Attorney General's personal cellphone number. Not once has she approached or reached out to him regarding any of her concerns," the statement said.
Mace, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, has been pushing for and championing legislation to protect women and girls. However, under that framing, she has also veered into cultural battles, supporting bills that attack transgender individuals. She has repeatedly used anti-trans slurs, as recently as Wednesday.
During her speech on Monday, she said she was allegedly physically abused by her fiance on Nov. 13, 2023, her last night with him and bears a scar from it.
"Rather than see this mark as a scar, I see this mark of a free woman, free from a monster," she said. "I will wear this mark that he made on me for the rest of my life as a badge of honor."

Senator Calls Trump-Putin Meeting An 'Embarrassment For The United States'

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) called President Donald Trump's recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin a 'disaster,' claiming that it resulted in the Russian leader getting 'everything he wanted.' 'That meeting was a disaster. It was an embarrassment for the United States. It was a failure,' Murphy said Sunday on NBC News' 'Meet the Press.' 'Putin got everything he wanted. I mean, first of all, he wanted that photo op, right? He wanted to be absolved of his war crimes in front of the world. He was invited to the United States.' Related: Trump and Putin met in Anchorage, Alaska, on Aug. 15 for a summit on ending the war in Ukraine, but the high-stakes meeting wrapped up without the pair reaching the ceasefire Trump was seeking. Trump, who praised the meeting as a '10 out of 10,' said following the meeting that now it is 'really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done.' Zelenskyy wasn't invited to the summit. 'We have a pretty good chance of getting it done,' Trump added. Trump and Zelensky are expected to meet on Monday at the Oval Office. Trump has also discussed plans to set up a joint meeting between him, Putin and Zelensky. Meanwhile, Putin referred to the meeting as 'very useful,' but neither Trump nor Putin mentioned an end to the fighting in Ukraine. Murphy went on to tell host Kristen Welker that 'war criminals are not normally invited to the United States of America.' '[Putin] is intentionally murdering civilians, he's kidnapping children, and now he got to stand next to the President of the United States, legitimized in the view of the world,' Murphy continued. Related: Claiming that Putin 'didn't have to give up anything' during his meeting with Trump, he added, 'Nothing. Right? President Trump said he wanted a ceasefire. It appears the ceasefire wasn't even seriously discussed. And then, third, there's no consequences.' Related: Murphy continued, 'Trump said, 'If I don't get a cease fire, Putin is going to pay a price.' And then he walked out of that meeting saying, 'I didn't get a cease fire. I didn't get a peace deal, and I'm not even considering sanctions.'' The politician then pointed to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments Sunday on ABC's 'This Week,' in which he admitted 'we're still a long ways off' from a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia after the meeting flopped between Trump and Putin. 'You heard Secretary Rubio downplay sanctions. And so Putin walks away with his photo op with zero commitments made and zero consequences,' Murphy told Welker. 'What a great day for Russia.' Are we getting a $5000 DOGE dividend or $600 rebate? Fourth stimulus check eligibility

If you're wondering about a fourth stimulus check in 2025 from President Donald Trump or the IRS, here's what to know about eligibility and the reality of it happening. On July 25, Trump floated the idea of a tariff rebate check for American taxpayers in response to questions about all the new tariff revenue being generated, "We have so much money coming in, we're thinking about a little rebate. But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt. But we're thinking about a rebate." A few days after the president's tariff rebate comments, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley announced the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025 aimed at sending checks to Americans. Note that a few months back, in February, Trump also said he would consider a plan to pay out a portion of the savings identified by the Department of Government Efficiency in the form of a $5000 dividend check as payback to taxpayers. The DOGE dividend proposal, authored by Azoria investment firm CEO James Fishback, was meant to give back or refund taxpayers a savings from Elon Musk's DOGE related cuts and reductions in government spending. Here's what to know about Trump's two proposals this year, what the amounts would be, qualifications and status. Are we getting a fourth stimulus check in 2025? While speculation about a of $2,000 has surfaced on social media and unverified websites, there has been no official confirmation of any additional economic relief package in 2025 from Congress or the IRS to support this claim. Any such news should be taken with caution as it could be misinformation or attempted fraud. Either of Trump's ideas for a tariff rebate or DOGE dividend this year would be similar to a fourth stimulus check, if approved. Albeit, there are differences between a stimulus check versus a dividend, refund or rebate. By definition, a dividend is a distribution of profits by a corporation to its shareholders and refund is a payment made back to a user that previously paid for something. While a rebate is a partial refund of the purchase price that a consumer paid, often upon meeting certain conditions — more like a discount that is refunded after the purchase versus a discount that is applied at the point of sale. A stimulus check on the other hand, is a direct payment to encourage spending and stimulate the economy by putting money directly into the consumers' hand. Also similar to the stimulus checks sent during the pandemic, these proposals would require congressional approval. What is the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025? Hawley's bill, called the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025, would provide a minimum of $600 per adult and dependent child, or $2,400 for a family of four, according to news officials. The benefit would be reduced by 5% for joint filers with an adusted gross income above $150,000 or single filers earning more than $75,000 individually. According to an analysis from the Budget Lab at Yale released July 28, Trump's tariffs could cost U.S. households an average of $2,400 in 2025 through higher prices passed on from companies paying higher tariff taxes. The Treasury Department said on July 25 that the U.S. government posted a $27 billion surplus in June, following a $316 billion deficit in May. Customs duties totaled approximately $27 billion for the month, up from $23 billion in May and 301% higher than in June 2024. On an annual basis, tariff collections have totaled $113 billion, or 86% more than a year ago. The bill would allow for a larger rebate if the tariff revenue exceeds projections. What is the status of the DOGE dividend check proposal? Fishback announced that he was stepping away from the DOGE dividend check movement after Musk lashed out at the president in June, although he also said he would continue working with the administration "to return savings to taxpayers." The latest update on DOGE dividend came from Fishbacks tweet on June 6, "I believed in Elon Musk's vision to shrink government and make it work better for Americans. I'm proud of the DOGE Dividend proposal I developed and will keep working with the administration to return savings to taxpayers." He added, "The truth is that Elon set expectations that he relayed to the President, me, and the country that he did not come close to fulfilling. That's disappointing, but okay." According to Fishback's proposal, the DOGE dividend check was described as tax refund check to be sent to every taxpaying household, funded exclusively with a portion of the total savings delivered by DOGE. The potential refund would be sent only to households that are net-income taxpayers — people who pay more in taxes than they get back — with lower-income Americans not qualifying for the return, according to news reports. The Pew Research Center cites most Americans who have an adjusted gross income of under $40,000 pay effectively no federal income tax. According to the DOGE website, it cites an estimated $205 billion — approximately $1,273 per individual federal taxpayer — in savings and proof in their "Wall of Receipts." Albeit, only half the amount is itemized thus far, raising doubts about accuracy. Amy Gleason is the acting administrator and head of DOGE. Musk's departure from the federal government will likely do little to change DOGE's work carrying out Trump's vision of downsizing the federal government or eliminating the 'fraud and waste.'
