to tarnish the image of the Delhi Police. Further investigation is still going on," he added.
Earlier, on July 27, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted the video on the social media platform X, expressing outrage over the alleged incident and wrote, "Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal. See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Where are they taking our country now ?"

Our works stalled, govt must release Rs 27-crore grant: Mohali Mayor
Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has complained that they have not received the promised grant of approximately Rs 27 crore from the Punjab government which is hampering the development projects in the city. The mayor also made it clear that the MC is facing a severe fund crunch and has already written to the Local Government Department and the Chief Minister seeking financial assistance. He alleged that several departments, including PSPCL and GMADA, still owe significant amounts to the MC. 'The government must immediately release the grant so that the process of execution can begin,' Sidhu added. Sources in the MC said that the sanctioned works include laying premix on various city roads, building libraries in sectors 77, 78, 79, and 80, constructing community centres in villages Kumbra and Mataur, replacing old grills along central verges of main roads, and developing a new chowk in Mataur, among other projects. 'As per the available funds, the MC is already carrying out essential maintenance works in the city. Until the money for these special projects is received, we will not start them. Our priority is to complete the most urgent works first,' said Sidhu.

Putin 'BREAKS' Protocol, Does 'UNTHINKABLE' For Arab Leader
Operation Sindoor Ends Balakot Doubts With 80-Hour IAF Blow To Pakistan: Air Chief Marshal Reveals Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh says Operation Sindoor finally 'laid to rest the ghost of Balakot.' Speaking at the LM Katre Memorial Lecture, he revealed how the IAF learned from the 2019 Balakot strike, when India struggled to publicly prove the damage inflicted. This time, against Pakistan, there was no ambiguity. In just 80-90 hours, the IAF crippled Pakistan's air power, shooting down five fighters and a massive AWACS aircraft, and destroying key terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK, including the prized Sargodha airbase. Singh credited the success to full political backing, no operational restrictions, and perfect tri-services coordination under the CDS. Using S-400 missiles and precision air raids, India eliminated over 100 terrorists in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.#balakot #opsindoor #iaf #indianairforce #apsingh #indiapakistan #s400 #airdefence #pahalgamattack #defencenews #counterterror #pakistanairforce #indianarmy #airpower #indiadefense #nationalsecurity #surgicalstrike #breakingnews #militarynews #cds #sargodha #breakingnews #trending #trendingnow #toi #bharat #toibharat #indianews 84.5K views | 9 hours ago

With SOPs still not in place, dhirio continue in Salcete
Colva: The controversial and illegal dhirio, or bullfights, appear to be gaining ground once again in South Goa, despite a renewed crackdown ordered by South Goa collector Egna Cleetus. The collector had recently announced the formation of a special committee aimed at eradicating the practice, but the events continue to be organised in defiance of the law. Over the past week alone, bullfighting enthusiasts have staged events at multiple locations. On Aug 8, a bullfight was reported at Varca, followed by another the very next day on Fatrade beach. The high court banned dhirio in 1997, citing violations of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. To curb the rising number of such illegal events, the collector on July 10 announced a multi-stakeholder committee. The panel was to include mamlatdars, police officers from various stations at Salcete and Mormugao, veterinary officers, and representatives from animal welfare organisations. The objective was to coordinate efforts, implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), and respond quickly to reports of dhirio. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Watching Videos Can Boost Your Income TheDaddest Undo However, officials on the ground said that the system is yet to function as intended. 'The SOPs have not yet been circulated to us,' said Colva police inspector Vikram Naik. 'Our role is to maintain law and order and register cases. For actually stopping dhirio, veterinary officers and trained bull handlers have to be present.' The dangers of these fights extend beyond the animals. In Jan 2024, a 38-year-old bullfighting enthusiast was gored to death during a bullfight at Benaulim. Just a few months later, in April, one of the fighting bulls died instantly when its opponent's horn pierced its heart during a violent clash. Despite legal prohibitions, the lure of dhirio — also tied to illegal betting — continues to draw participants and spectators. Animal welfare groups have reiterated their demand for faster implementation of the collector's directives, Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
