Fan Bingbing Reportedly Returning To Melaka In August To Receive Datuk Wira Title

Hype Malaysia28-07-2025
While Fan Bingbing's (范冰冰) appointment as Tourism Ambassador for Melaka received mixed reactions, it has brought improvement to the state's tourism. However, rumour has it that the Chinese actress may receive a state honour for her contribution.
Last year, the actress was appointed Tourism Ambassador for Melaka, a move that received mixed reactions. Despite the comments, Fan Bingbing's ambassadorship saw a growth in the number of Chinese tourists visiting the historical state. The star was even recognised in the Malaysian Book of Records for 'Largest Digital Hits for Malaysian Tourism on WeChat Platform Using Celebrity Ambassador'.
In celebration of her contribution, the state of Melaka is reportedly honouring the star with the highest state honour. According to China Press, Fan Bingbing may be honoured with a Datuk Wira title during the Governor of Melaka's birthday on 24th August 2025 (Sunday). As such, the actress will be returning to the state to receive the honour and fulfil her duties as Tourism Ambassador. Fan Bingbing is currently in Kuala Lumpur to film for an upcoming project.
Fan Bingbing's tenure as Melaka's Tourism Ambassador may also be extended, given her contributions to the state so far. Since the state will be hosting the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2025 and the World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025 from 27th to 29th September 2025 (Saturday to Monday), it's believed the actress will continue her role in light of these events.
According to reports, in the year Fan Bingbing was appointed Tourism Ambassador for Melaka, the number of Chinese tourists in the state increased significantly from 204,818 to 664,687. The increase in tourism also helped boost consumption in hotels, restaurants and attractions, making the 44-year-old a significant contributor to helping Melaka's tourism industry recover.
The rumours of Fan Bingbing receiving the Datuk Wira honour remain unconfirmed, but what are your thoughts on this?

Sora Ma holds memorial service for late husband: I have never stopped missing u

In a post on Instagram Stories on Aug 1, Sora Ma wrote that due to her husband's sudden passing, she did not have time to notify many friends at the time. Photos: Sora Ma/Instagram Actress Sora Ma wrote a sentimental post on social media for her husband, as she held a memorial service for him one year after his death. She married the Singaporean businessman in 2021 and the couple held their wedding the following year. Ma, 41, gave birth to their son Skye in August 2024 and disclosed in December that her husband had died suddenly in June. He was in his late 40s. The Malaysian-born actress became a Singaporean in January. In a lengthy post on Instagram Stories on Aug 1, Ma wrote that due to her husband's sudden passing, she did not have time to notify many friends then. She therefore held a memorial service on the first anniversary of his death, and attached a black-and-white photo of the event. 'In the past year, even though you are no longer with us, I still feel that you are with me and our child, learning and growing together,' she wrote in Chinese. 'We (our friends and I) never shy away from anything related to you. Instead, we prefer to talk openly about your kindness to everyone, as well as the warmth and influence you brought to everyone. This is our way of remembering, mourning and healing.' Asked by a friend how she managed to get through the difficult time, she said she and her late husband loved each other without regrets. 'When you were alive, we never hesitated to express our love,' she wrote. 'We always gave each other the deepest care and companionship until the very end.' She added: 'I have never stopped missing you every festival and every special moment.' She said she would use her husband's thoughtful and considerate love for her over the years to raise their child. 'I often tell my friends that the love you had given me over the past 11 years is more than enough for me to raise Skye well,' she wrote. Ma noted that many people who have benefited from her husband's kindness came for his memorial service. 'I thought you were good and gentle enough, but after hearing everyone share their stories and watching your videos, I realised you were so much better than we could have imagined. I'm so proud of you,' she wrote. 'The good deeds you did in your life, the light you radiated – all of them deserve to be remembered. This world is truly a better place because of you. Please continue to be brave and kind in the other world. We will always love you.' Ma recently held a celebration for her son's first birthday, inviting her celebrity pals such as Zheng Geping, Hong Huifang, Chen Xiuhuan and Apple Hong. Ma posted on Aug 2 several photos with her son from the past year on social media, with the caption: 'Month of August, month of Leo Baby.' 'One year ago, he changed my life forever,' she wrote in English, using the hashtag #SkyeIsOne. 'From sleepless nights to heart-melting cuddles, this first year of motherhood has been the fastest, slowest, most beautiful ride.' She added: 'Thank you, baby, for coming into my life, for pulling me out from the darkest days, and leading me into the warmest sunlight I've ever known. I'll spend the rest of my life learning, growing and loving beside you.' – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
