Chinese brand GWM teases Ferrari-rivalling supercar
Teased by the brand on a Chinese social media platform, the mystery machine could only be 'seen' underneath a cover. Though, despite very little information being revealed to the public, the car is expected to be powered by the firm's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, which was unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.
The automaker's supercar project was confirmed in April by chief technology officer Wu Huixiao, who highlighted that the vehicle had been under development for five years, as it must not only deliver exceptional performance, but also remain reasonably attainable as far as supercars go.
In addition to the expected PHEV arrangement – the internal combustion (ICE) component of which is sited midships – that will power the firm's halo car, it will feature a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. Power and torque outputs, and performance figures remain unconfirmed, though Huixiao says the company's first supercar will outperform the Ferrari SF90.
As a reminder, the Italian supercar's PHEV setup produces a total system output of 735kW for a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.5s and top speed of 340km/h.
GWM hasn't announced an official debut date for its supercar yet. However, it is speculated that it will be unveiled before the end of 2025.

Ferrari: fastest in the pits
Famous marque can change a set of tyres in two secs. Ferrari's legion of Formula 1 fans will be pleased to hear the famous marque is likely to win Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix – in the 'Fastest Pit Stop' category. Alessandro Fusaro, the No 1 mechanic for Ferrari's Formula 1 team, is the man behind the new Ferrari dominance. He has a tattoo of Guido, the tyre-changing forklift from Pixar's movie Cars, a character who is a passionate Ferrari fan and a pit crew member in the film. Meanwhile, on the actual track, will it be McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris who'll come out on top or perhaps Verstappen, Leclerc, Hamilton or George Russell? 2025 Nissan Magnite scores upgraded safety rating
Introduced to the South African market in June 2021, the pre-facelifted current-generation Nissan Magnite only managed to score two stars at the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP). However, the updated model, which made local landfall in October 2024, has now improved on the original safety rating; upgrading to a GNCAP safety rating of five stars overall. The India-built crossover was awarded five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection; accumulating in the overall five-star score. 'This significant milestone further cements the Magnite as a safety and engineering leader within the sub-R400k compact-SUV space. Our engineers achieved an incredible feat, raising the Magnite from a two-star to five-star safety rating in a remarkably short timeframe,' said Maciej Klenkiewicz, the managing director of Nissan South Africa and independent markets. Richard Woods, the CEO of GNCAP, added: 'It's very welcome to see Nissan's focus on improving the Magnite's safety performance. The five-star rating is relevant to consumers in South Africa and India, and it demonstrates what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time when a manufacturer is fully committed to engage in the NCAP process.' The most affordable compact SUV in South Africa, the Magnite is equipped with such safety items as six airbags, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, traction control and hill start assist, among others. As a reminder, locally, the Magnite is available with the choice of two 1l, three-cylinder engines – one naturally aspirated and the other, turbocharged. The former and latter units produce 53kW/96Nm and 74kW/152Nm, respectively, and have respective claimed average fuel consumption figures of 5.9l/100km and 6.0l/100km. Leclerc takes pole for Hungarian Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc grabbed an unexpected pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday with McLaren's Formula One leader Oscar Piastri joining the surprised Ferrari driver on the front row. McLaren's Lando Norris, Piastri's closest title rival, qualified third with George Russell lining up fourth for Mercedes. The pole was Ferrari's first of the season in a regular grand prix. Leclerc's teammate and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who qualified only 12th at the Hungaroring, took a sprint pole in Shanghai in March. 'Today, I don't understand anything in Formula One,' commented Leclerc, who exclaimed 'What? Mamma Mia!' when told he was on pole by 0.026 of a second. 'Honestly, the whole qualifying was extremely difficult. When I say extremely difficult, it's not exaggerating. 'It's probably one of the best pole positions I've ever had. It's the most unexpected, for sure.' Piastri, 16 points clear of Norris in what looks like a two-horse race, was almost as surprised as the Monegasque. 'I wasn't expecting to be second to a Ferrari this weekend,' said the Australian, who won in Hungary last year and had been fastest in Saturday's final practice after Norris dominated Friday's sessions. McLaren had taken eight previous poles this season and qualified one-two in Hungary last time around. McLaren have also won 10 of 13 races so far but overtaking is not easy at the circuit outside Budapest and Leclerc has a real chance of Ferrari's first win of 2025 if he can stave off the McLarens. Norris felt Leclerc had risked a bit more with his final flying lap, with the wind changing towards the end of the session. 'I think it's going to be an exciting race. I would expect us to have a bit more pace than Charles, so I'm looking forward to it,' said the Briton. Behind the top four, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll qualified fifth and sixth in a marked improvement for that team. Brazilian rookie Gabriel Bortoleto will line up seventh for Sauber with reigning champion Max Verstappen eighth fastest for Red Bull. Racing Bulls pair Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar rounded out the top 10 on the grid. Verstappen's teammate Yuki Tsunoda failed to make it through the first phase — dropping out after his predecessor in the Red Bull seat Lawson went faster — and will start 16th.
