Kilkenny v Tipperary LIVE updates from the All-Ireland semi-final

Kilkenny and Tipperary will resume their old rivalry at Croke Park this Sunday afternoon as they battle for a place in the All-Ireland Hurling Championship final.
This is familiar ground for both sides although Kilkenny have enjoyed the better time of things in recent years without lifting the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Indeed it is hard to believe that it is ten years since the Cats last won the All-Ireland, with four final losses arriving after their 2015 success.
Perhaps more surprising though is that this is the first time Tipperary have been back to Croke Park in six years.
The Premier County have seemingly been a team in transition in recent times, but their 1-28 to 2-17 victory over Galway in the quarter-finals confirmed their place back at the top table.
The match is scheduled for a 4pm throw-in at Croke Park and will be shown live on RTE 2 and on the RTE Player.

Tipperary have lost plenty of stalwarts in recent seasons, but it has allowed many of their younger guns to establish themselves in the team.
The likes of Andrew Oscomod, Jake Morris and Darragh McCarthy have really stepped up for the Premier, while older stagers like John McGrath and Jason Forde continue to showcase their quality in attack.
There is an older profile to Kilkenny's team, many of whom have much experience in these huge matches, not least their talisman TJ Reid.
But they also continue to unearth many great prospects of their own, with Cian Kenny and Jordan Molloy among those impressing this season.

Liam Cahill says red card lit fire under Tipperary as Premier book All-Ireland final showdown with Cork

LIAM CAHILL says Darragh McCarthy's red fired Tipperary up as they marched back to the All-Ireland final. Advertisement 2 Tipperary manager Liam Cahill hailed his side after a classic triumph over Kilkenny 2 Darragh McCarthy of Tipperary was sent off in the clash - but the Premier still held firm to seal a final spot against Cork Tipperary went down to 14 men when McCarthy was shown a second yellow card for wrapping stopper Eoin Murphy across the knuckles with his hurl with 12 minutes left. But Oisín O'Donoghue's wonderstrike at the death fired Tipp back to the showpiece for the first time since 2019 - and Cahill hailed his warriors for clawing the Cats at Croker. He said: 'It was a bit of a blow at the time but look, I think it really ignited the rest of the players on the field. 'Look, it's misfortune, the second yellow. By the rule book it's there, as a second yellow. We had no complaints with it at all. Advertisement READ MORE ON GAA 'Just disappointed for Darragh, he commits to everything. I suppose just before that we probably had really discussed getting Oisín in at that time. 'Lo and behold, Darragh was coming off alright but we can't get Oisín in to replace him. Again, the impact of our bench coming in had a big bearing on today's game. 'I really thought they gave us huge energy. Tynan in particular was superb when he came on. Obviously, Oisín and Noel as usual, giving us that calming influence. Just happy, as I said, that the job is done now. 'We try and turn the page as quick as we can and look forward to two weeks' time.' Advertisement Most read in GAA Hurling Cahill's tenure as Tipp boss was under huge fire when they failed to win a game in the Munster SHC last year. But his pleas for patience have paid off, and he hailed his players for taking them back to the biggest day of all against all the odds as McCarthy, John McGrath and Jason Forde fired first half goals against the Cats. RTE viewers loved Noel McGrath's post-match interview from accidental F-bomb to hilarious gag He said: 'It's been difficult to navigate over the last two years from my perspective, I won't deny that. A huge change was required, it's starting to come through now. 'As I said, it's all down to the players. And to be fair, the alignment with our county board off the field as well. Advertisement 'These fellas set really high standards for themselves to be fair and they committed to that. We have a really tight group. 'I know every manager says that when they sit in front of you guys after a win. It takes a lot of work to create that because if you haven't everybody on the same wavelength, days like today just don't happen. 'I mean not just players, I mean the backroom team we have, the people that support them. We're a unit that keeps things really tight and we have one another's back. 'That's what really makes it proud for me is that when you can create something like that and the tests come like they came today outside there at Croke Park. Advertisement "The players usually find the answers. Just thrilled as I said to be in the final. 'The game was exciting, it was probably a very much mistake-ridden game as well which probably led to a lot of the excitement with the number of mistakes that were in it. "We have a lot to do to make sure that we're in a position to go forward and try and take on Cork in two weeks' time.'

Nicky English: Tipperary proved they're primed to take All-Ireland challenge to Cork

For the second day, goals won matches. It was a great display by Tipperary after a terrible start but it was also deserved, even allowing for the scoreboard controversy that I only became aware of after the match. All through Tipperary had a better touch than Kilkenny and their hurling was sharper, but it still looked ominous when it took 13 minutes for them to score a point after a bad start. John McGrath's goal was vital to steady the ship and keep them afloat in that opening quarter of an hour. They needed all of their goals and the three in the first half gave them a half-time lead, which was a remarkable achievement after Kilkenny's early dominance. Despite that, I felt Kilkenny's touch was off and they fumbled and turned over a lot of possession, including for some of the goals. Oisín O'Donoghue blocked a hand pass by Richie Reid to set up Jason Forde's point from play. READ MORE There were also turnovers for O'Donoghue's goal, which was brilliantly taken. It was hard for him to get the shot away, but he did, and on a day when Tipp seemed to get the bounce of the ball, it found the corner of Eoin Murphy's net. I think though it was a reward for their hard work and some excellent displays. Robert Doyle blocked the John Donnelly goal chance at the end and Bryan O'Mara put in a phenomenal shift in defence. Eoghan Connolly and Conor Stakelum scored three points apiece when the pressure was on. Jason Forde celebrates scoring Tipperary's third goal. Photograph: Leah Scholes/Inpho Andrew Ormond has had a fantastic season and really stood up at the end, winning a couple frees which Jason Forde did very well to convert. I had been impressed by how hard working and resilient they have been and Liam Cahill deserves great credit for patiently rebuilding the team. They are getting better as they progress. On the debit side, Darragh McCarthy had his second high-profile red card this championship. He's a young and talented player but he needs to adjust to senior hurling and cut out careless actions. For Kilkenny, it was a major disappointment. They had been hoping to redeem last year's semi-final defeat against Clare. By half-time they had conceded three goals and you knew they wouldn't beat Tipp without scoring at least one themselves. They really need an injection of new blood if they are to stay in contention. At the moment they have a definite ceiling and Tipperary are likely to get better. For now, it's a first Tipp-Cork All-Ireland. We know all our lives that it takes on a life of its own and could go either way, but Cork will be justified favourites. However, for Tipperary, it's been a huge success to get to this point and they won't be easily beaten by anyone.
