This is officially the best city for Gen Z in America

Time Out16 hours ago
You're young (under 30), you're thinking about changing jobs and moving somewhere for a fresh start—but where is that? Where will you find people who like the same things you do (going out for the evening, catching culture, dining like kings and queens, quaffing that ridiculously intense cocktail), in a city that's fun, safe and rewards healthy things, too, like parks and nature? Helpfully, Time Out has come out with its inaugural list of the Best Cities for Gen Z, a global ranking created by Gen Z, for Gen Z.
It results from Time Out's Best Cities survey, but we kicked out all the responses from anyone older than 30 (we're not resentful at all), to create a spiffy look at where you should live. And on this list of 20 international cities, two hail from our very own United States—but first, let's look at which locale claimed the top spot this year.
That would be Bangkok: Of the respondents who already live in Thailand's capital, 84-percent of Gen Z say that they're happy there. It's also an affordable city and has an incredible street life—including bars and dance clubs and street food to fawn over—plus colorful and sacred temples and statues, floating markets in the canals, and a safe and welcoming vibe.
Next up are two fellow international destinations, Melbourne, Australia and Cape Town, South Africa, which take the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, respectively.
And in fourth place, we hit the first U.S. city on the list: New York City. A foodie haven for those with abundance and not, this sprawling city of 8.4 million is great for Gen Z with spectacular nightlife (84-percent applaud it) and walkability (82-percent). Respondents called it the most 'exciting' city on the list. And, of course, it's got fabulous hotels and culture, too.
We'll race past the other non-American cities on the list (you can see those below) to get to No. 17, the other U.S city embraced by Generation Zed: Chicago. Also known to satisfy eating and drinking lust (hello, deep dish pizza), Chicago offers affordable nightclubs, scenic boat rides, world-class museums and gorgeous greenspaces. And its zoo is free!
Takeaway from the list: no country has more than two cities on the lineup, with Thailand, Australia, Spain, China, the United Kingdom and the United States also getting double entries this year. But there's one omission we feel deeply: where's San Francisco?!
The top 20 best cities for Gen Z, according to Time Out:
1. Bangkok, Thailand
2. Melbourne, Australia
3. Cape Town, South Africa
4. New York City, United States
5. Copenhagen, Denmark
6. Barcelona, Spain
7. Edinburgh, United Kingdom
8. Mexico City, Mexico
9. London, United Kingdom
10. Shanghai, China
11. Sydney, Australia
12. Beijing, China
13. Paris, France
14. Tokyo, Japan
15. Berlin, Germany
16. Seville, Spain
17. Chicago, United States
18. Chiang Mai, Thailand
19. Prague, Czech Republic
20. Lisbon, Portugal

American tourist claims he's found the 'best UK ice cream' in seaside town

The tourist enjoyed an ice cream sundae in the review video that went viral on social media An American tourist thinks he's found 'the best ice cream in the UK' after visiting a seaside town. Nathan Leazer, a musician and content creator, has been documenting his travels on TikTok as @nathanleazermusic. ‌ In a recent video, he visited Broadstairs, a seaside town on the Kent coast, and reviewed Morelli's Gelato. The ice cream parlour first opened in Broadstairs in 1932, and Nathan loved visiting the historic parlour, which overlooks the picturesque Viking Bay. Nathan told his followers: "You know what I love about England? ‌ "I'm here in a place called Broadstairs, and I'm about to go have the best ice cream in the UK from a place called Morelli's. It's like an old diner." He then filmed himself chatting with the staff about the parlour's 93-year history, before showcasing the ice cream sundae he ordered. "Look at that," he praised. "Yeah, buddy." ‌ The TikTok video went viral, gaining over 200,000 views and more than 17,000 likes. It also received lots of comments from ice cream fans who love the parlour. A viewer commented: "Omg, I did NOT expect to see Morelli's on my fyp today!! My grandparents used to go on dates there together and have taken all of us since then! It's such a special place." Another said: "I didn't realise Morellis was still open!! my mum and grandparents used to go there." Someone added: "Morellis is where my parents had their first date 40 years ago. We went there a couple of years ago for the Broadstairs food festival and went in there. They said it hasn't changed a bit, and still has the best ice cream." Morelli's Gelato Broadstairs has earned lots of praise on TripAdvisor, where it's ranked as the number one dessert spot in the town. A reviewer praised: "We have been a couple of times. It's like jumping back in time. "Love the decor, service good and the ice cream is great. Had the nine mini cones last time we went, very good. Just had a takeaway tub this time and a seat on the promenade in the late summer sun, PERFECT. Wished we lived nearer but probably better for our health that we don't…." ‌ A second shared: "First went here in the early 70s. Little has changed and that is why it is an amazing experience. Afternoon Knickerbocker Glory and Banana Split were great. Evening hot waffle with ice cream. Yummy. Not the cheapest but you pay for the experience. If you visit Broadstairs, you must go to Morelli's!" A third commented: "During our recent family holiday to Broadstairs, we visited Morrellis on many occasions. The ice cream is the best in the world, and the choices available are extensive. We have been coming to Morrellis for years and each visit never disappoints." A fourth added: "We went yesterday to Broadstairs with my family and we tried the gelato in Morelli's. It was the best gelato I've ever tried here in the UK, it reminded me home. Also, I would like to congratulate all the staff for being so professional and having an ace customer service. I highly recommend this place."

Little-known Disney secret that can help you skip long queues

A Disney park hopper shared a little-known trick to skip long queues and spend more time enjoying yourself at the 'most magical place in the world' - and people have thanked him for sharing his 'secret' It's 'one of the most magical places in the world' - but you can end up spending hours in queues rather than enjoying your well-earned holiday. But to help you save time on your Disney trip, a park hopper shared his go-to trick to beat the queues when buying souvenirs from its many gift shops. ‌ Taking to TikTok, user Adventure With W&C said: "If you're in a busy store like this one and you don't want to have to queue to check out, head to the My Disney Experience app. Then on the home screen, you click on the plus in the middle, and then you clock on Merchandise Mobile Checkout, which is the third one from the top, and it'll show you all the stores which are close by. ‌ "We're going to click on Emporium. Then it'll come up with a barcode scanner which is connected to the card in your account." ‌ From here, he shows how easy it is to scan an item in the store and pay for it through your My Disney Experience app on your phone. The app provides you with an online receipt which you can show to staff on the way out of the shop so they know "you're not stealing anything". Commenting on his video, one user said: "Wow, my mind is blown! Roll on October to try it out. Thank you." Another user said: "Great tip! Been to Disney a few times and didn't know that. I will definitely be using this on our January trip." A third user added: "Wow! This is genius!" One more user said: "That's helpful." ‌ It comes after Disney lovers shared their shock over only just learning what EPCOT actually stands for despite it being around for decades. Often referred to as a "permanent world's fair", it opened in October 1982, as EPCOT Center, and was the second of four theme parks built at the resort. However, many people have no idea what it actually means, with one Reddit user admitting: "Today I learnt the Disney Park, EPCOT, is an acronym." ‌ During its early development, Walt Disney wanted to create a city where people would work, live, and play, with the project named Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, creating the acronym EPCOT. Describing his vision, Disney said in 1966: "EPCOT will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centres of American industry. "It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed but will always be introducing and testing, and demonstrating new materials and new systems. "And EPCOT will always showcase to the world of the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise." However, after his death in 1966, the company decided this vision was "impractical" and instead crated a theme park encompassing the spirit of his vision. Today, around 27,397 guests visit EPCOT every day for its rides, live entertainment, restaurants, and to meet Disney characters.
