Everyone needs a pair of metallic sandals in their summer wardrobe - shop the 7 best trending styles now

Cosmopolitan12-07-2025
You know what your summer wardrobe needs? A pair of metallic sandals, trust.
Super versatile and easily dressed up or down, this major fashion trend can be worn with everything from linen trousers to lace trim satin shorts. While the item might be synonymous with Spring/Summer, certain iterations can be worn all-year-round (we're thinking of platform or strappy styles that work oh so well for dressing up at night).
Of course, you don't need to limit yourself to just one pair of metallic sandals. After all, 'metallic' spans a range of colours (from silver to gold to copper and beyond) and sandals come in a range of styles. This summer, we're especially spoiled for weather-appropriate footwear, with wedge sandals and gladiator sandals making a comeback.
So, with so many different metallic sandals to choose from, we've done the hard bit for you: curating an edit of the best trending metallic sandal styles rn, alongside a selection of high street metallic sandals to add to basket now...
Flat sandals are majorly chic, just think of the iconic Oran sandal by Hermes (which we've conveniently found a dupe for, btw). In materials like leather, the sandal flat can provide a touch of elegance to a summer outfit while on hols, as well as add a touch of cool to an evening outfit. When in a metallic hue, the vibe can easily go from day to night, given the trending nature of the style. A flat sandal in silver or gold is a nice spin on a classic, and a good way to add a lil something extra to a simple outfit.
Who doesn't love a double strap sandal? These slides (popularised by Birkenstock) easily slip on and are generally suuuuper comfy, providing a necessary break to anyone who's used to pounding the pavement in heeled styles. Working well for your daily commute, as well as poolside lounging and a foray into town, a double trap metallic sandal works equally well with a skirt as linen trousers, though they do tend to veer on the informal side.
We're very here for the resurgence of late aughts/early 2010s style, and all the boho chic this throwback has brought with it. This includes gladiator sandals, a type of sandal which features multiple straps, some of which go up beyond the ankle and even ascend to the knee, resembling the sandals worn by the Romans way back when. When you add a metallic colourway to a pair of gladiators, they automatically take on a more contemporary feel, and can be worn with shorts at a festival or with a long maxi skirt for major boho vibes.
Strappy sandals can encompass multiple styles, but what we're really talking about here is the kind of open-toed shoe with a strap across the base of the toes and another at the ankle, often with a platform sole or a heel. These are all-season shoes, working v well for accompanying an evening wear outfit for a night of dancing. Silver or gold, especially, gives a touch of glamour and versatility, while pushing the style into the evening wear space. Rock with a short dress or skirt, long gown, or even jeans and a nice top.
Another throwback style we can't stop thinking about, wedge sandals have a distinctive heel which slopes up vertically from the toes up to the heel, creating a block beneath the foot. They're traditionally more comfy than a pair of heels or stilettos, while still giving some height. In sandal form, wedges can span espadrilles (which feature esparto rope on the heel, as well as canvas for the body of the shoe) as well as cork-heeled iterations, and generally have an open toe. Metallic spins on the trend work well for more of an evening wear vibe, and work well with monochrome fits in black or white. Often, a wedge can bring a bit of elevation to a pair of flowing trousers, or a mini skirt.
We simply adore a mule sandal: a type of shoe that slips on, without a back, and often features a kitten heel. This type of shoe works well for more formal occasions like getting drinks, cocktail party vibes, as well as even a day at the office. We recommend wearing with tailored trousers or a midi skirt for work, and rocking a skirt or mini dress for cocktails, with tailored shorts providing a good day-to-night transition.
Platform sandals are great at providing height alongside a degree of comfort, and work well for beach or poolside holidays, smartening up a bikini/swimming cozzie and cover-up combo to no end. They also work so well for summer activities like barbecues or garden parties, especially when worn with a midi dress or midi skirt.
So, there you have it: your guide to the top, trending metallic sandals rn!

Jenna Ortega Debuts the Gen Z Swap for a Birkin Bag

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Himalayan crocodile handbags, one of the rarest finishes on the market, are typically reserved for the most loyal Hermès customers. Jennifer Lopez, for one, owns a handful of croc-embossed Birkin bags, including an ultra-rare, $500,000 version. Few bags match the model's six-figure caliber, but on August 4, Jenna Ortega showcased a worthy successor from the Taylor-Swift-beloved brand Aupen. Yesterday, the 22-year-old began the second week ofWednesday's Season 2 press tour with two designer looks, both curated by her longtime stylist, Enrique Melendez. Before stopping by Late Night With Seth Meyers, she swapped her Willy Chavarria skirt suit (and matching hat) for all-ivory attire—most notably, Aupen's Repurpose Pochette. Ortega is the first to carry the Himalayan croc top-handle bag, following its creation in collaboration with luxury conglomerate LVMH Métiers d'Art. Similar to Lopez's Birkin, the diagonal design is one of one, complete with contrasting croc paneling and a zip-top closure. Though not nearly as spacious, it could very well become Gen Z's Birkin—at $100,000. The designer behind Ortega's strapless asymmetrical dress is still a mystery. If it's anything like her Aupen bag, it boasts an impressive price tag. Unless you have Melendez on speed dial, the Himalayan Aupen isn't available to the public. A limited-edition collection will launch on August 9, possibly starring Ortega's other Aupen bag, the Nirvana. The Wednesday actor first boarded the Aupen bandwagon in Feb. 2024 at a Saturday Night Live after-party. She carried the diagonal Nirvana bag in chocolate brown to match her Monse Fall 2025 slip dress. Its braided shoulder strap just barely peeked out from underneath her faux fur Snow Xue Gao coat. The Nirvana bag is only two years old, yet it's already become an It bag among celebrities. Swift endorsed the $340 shoulder style in Oct. 2023, alongside a high-low Versace look, no less. Within months, everyone from Olivia Rodrigo and Selena Gomez to Lady Gaga and Hailey Bieber added the Nirvana, in various neutral vegan leathers, to their closets. Aupen's site is surprisingly quiet, offering nothing but a countdown to the limited-edition release, and a photo of a croc-embossed Purpose bag. Trust that when they release more limited-edition creations, Ortega will be first in line to carry them. Shop Shoulder Bags Inspired by Jenna Ortaga View Deal View Deal View Deal View Deal View Deal

Luxury brand exec left world of Hermes for life on farm. It's now a $50 million home business, and growing

Richard Christiansen traded in a life of luxury (goods) for life on the farm, though it happened in an unexpected way. A vegetable farmer he was in touch with during Covid told him they were going to "lose the farm" as all the restaurants they sold to closed. "We said bring the vegetables over and we will sell them," Christiansen recalled in an interview at CNBC's "Small Business Playbook." "I had spent my whole life in advertising and one farm became two, and then ten, and then 150 farms," he said in an interview with CNBC's Julia Boorstin at the virtual event. While he spent decades coming up with campaigns for companies like Hermes, farming was part of Christiansen's DNA, with both of his parents farmers in rural Australia, where he grew up. "It's backbreaking work and the toughest job in the world," he said. "I know the grunt and grind of farming." And after running an ad agency for two decades, he founded Flamingo Estate to take a look at farming, he said, with "a new set of eyes" that considered agriculture as a brand which could benefit from "luxury brand cues." Christiansen says it turned out that trading in the world of Hermes for the farm was a wise decision. "Mother Nature is the last great luxury house," he said. Flamingo Estate has expanded from those original vegetable boxes to olive oil, and olive oil as an ingredient for soap and candles. That was part of a big shift in Flamingo Estate's expansion as Christiansen realized that the company could help farmers make higher margin products by taking food grade ingredients into areas like household goods, beauty and the kitchen pantry. Many celebrities have endorsed, or directly worked with Flamingo Estate, starting with Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop and Oprah have both featured its products. "Many were customers, just really happy customers and said we like what you are doing, can we get involved?" Christiansen said. That led to Flamingo Estate transporting bee hives to the homes of celebrities to harvest honey for charity, with maybe the most famous example the hives on the roof of Lebron James's house. Julianne Moore has also produced honey, while Laura Dern has made olive oil, and next up, Christiansen said, is growing pickles with Pamela Anderson. Christiansen said if we want people to think about the environment differently, we have to show it to them differently. "Taking unexpected faces and getting their hands in the soil," is one way to accomplish that, he said. One thing he did learn from work on Hermes branding was what it takes for a brand to hold "the test of time," he said, which has led Flamingo Estate to closely control its messaging, or as Christiansen said, "police the brand cues very tightly," with his partner Aaron Harvey overseeing all of the design and Christiansen all the writing. "There are so many people making things but not building brands," he said. In the way every product is made, bottled, and packaged, Christiansen says he sees "real magic" and a question that many bigger-scale product companies never even consider: "Is there a true story to tell?" Christiansen boils down his approach to building a broad consumer products company to "making things I use every day at home. One great coffee, and one great product for skin, and one great thing for being in the sun all day." "Even though it is broad, we have a really sharp focus on utility," he said. Christiansen also said he is a big fan of being "radically inconsistent," an idea which is recognizable in the wide variety of products that the company now offers. "We expect that from wine, season to season it's different and we celebrate it, but something made well like hand soap should be different season to season because botanicals will change and ingredients will change," he said. "It's a little bit of calculated madness." That approach may have reached its peak with a $75 compost bag that was produced as a Mother's Day-timed gift and got a much larger reaction than the company anticipated. There was utility in the idea, in that farm goats were producing so much manure, but Christiansen said it was also born of a belief in "the power of play and trying things." "Just to work seasonally and pivot and try and have fun. There is joy there that many brands don't have," he said. Flamingo Estate has dreams of being a billion-dollar company. It is not close to that yet, but it is growing, doubling sales this year to $30 million and forecasting $50 million in sales by early next year, according to Christiansen. The company has already expanded to Australia, is about to launch in Japan, and will enter the European market next year, he said. One of the biggest hurdles was finding investors. Christiansen says it took several years to find the right partners and get properly funded, a process that included over 60 pitch meetings. One issue, he says, was the fact that Flamingo Estate is not a "single SKU" product company. The venture capital community loves one-product companies, but Flamingo Estate is doing food, beauty, and household goods, and efficiently running the different businesses, which Christiansen said is "a riddle" for many investors. He said many of the initial investment meetings would always circle back to the "exit goal," a topic that Christiansen was not interested in. "I would say 'we started running, why are we talking exit?'" he recalled. Many investors also wanted the company to focus on beauty because it has the highest margins and "kill everything else," he recalled. "Not following other people's playbooks, I think not doing that set us up well," he now says. "There are lots of entry points into the brand," he added. That leads Christiansen to say the one piece of advice he has for all business owners is to find the right partners, and in his experience, that meant people who have already built their own businesses, "people who know what it's like to be in the thick of things," he said. "They've made the best partners," he added.
