Pakistan-Japan Human Resources Stakeholders meeting held
The high-level gathering brought together approximately 70 key stakeholders actively engaged in developing and facilitating Pakistani human resources for employment opportunities in Japan.
The event witnessed the presence of distinguished figures including Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development; Shaza Fatima, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications; Mohammad Aaun Saqlain, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, and representatives from leading Japanese and Pakistani organisations.
Participants included representatives from PlusW, Proud Partners, Japan Pakistan Innovation Institute (JPII) and Japan Station.
Also, representatives from key institutions such as Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) were present.
The forum centered on the growing demands for skilled Pakistani labour in Japan and explored strategies to build stronger linkages that enable the smooth deployment of qualified professionals across multiple sectors, including IT, healthcare, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing.
Ambassador Akamatsu, in his welcome remarks, stated: 'I am confident that the success of Pakistani professionals in Japan is becoming one of the key pillars of the bilateral relations. Both Japanese and Pakistani embassies remains committed to making contributions in this area. The evaluation of Pakistani talents in Japan is becoming higher and higher. Therefore, I expect that the demands for skilled Pakistani professionals will be expanding in the future. Japan seeks high-quality human resources, and by engaging with Japan, young Pakistani talents will contribute significantly to strengthening the Japan-Pakistan relations. For Pakistan, remittances are one of the major economic pillars, and the skills and knowledge Pakistani workers acquire in Japan will help to foster industrial development after returning to their home country. Please allow me to touch upon the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which has opened as of 13th of April until 13th of October, half a year. More than 160 countries participate in this Expo. Among them, Pakistan Pavilion, which is consist of pink salts, is so popular among the visitors.'
Minister Salik Hussain emphasised the need for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Japan to help Pakistani professionals access opportunities in the Japanese corporate sector.
He commended the partnership between the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and PlusW, noting that its recent expansion under the Specified Skilled Workers (SSW) program now covers sectors beyond IT, including healthcare, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing.
Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted the success of Pakistani IT companies at Japan IT Week in Tokyo (April 2025), where 15 companies secured contracts exceeding $600,000. She called for more roadshows to showcase Pakistani tech talent in Japan and urged the development of a demand-supply matching platform to better align Pakistan's workforce development with Japan's needs.
She also advocated for the inclusion of IT and telecommunication fields in Japan's Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) programme.

Pakistan also shared updates on their respective initiatives to expand workforce collaboration and strengthen the people-to-people ties.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual commitment to promoting sustainable, long-term collaboration among stakeholders of Japan and Pakistan through human capital development and cross-border workforce mobility.

Poland agrees to boost employment opportunities for Pakistani workers
The governments of Pakistan and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation to create employment opportunities for Pakistani workers and expand labour mobility between the two countries. The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Polish Ambassador to Pakistan, Maciej Pisarski. The discussion focused on bilateral relations and proposals to provide employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland, read a statement on Thursday. During the meeting, Salik stated that over the past year, Pakistan exported products worth $450 million to Poland in the sectors of textiles, leather, and sports. The Polish envoy expressed condolences for the loss of life and property due to recent floods in various areas of Pakistan. 'He also indicated that there are employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland, and that stringent measures have been taken to curb illegal immigration,' he said. It was learnt that Poland's Foreign Minister will visit Pakistan in October, during which several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed. Salik Hussain noted that in one year, 742,000 Pakistanis went abroad for employment, and that Pakistan ranks fourth worldwide in exporting its workforce. He informed the Polish envoy that strong actions have been taken to prevent illegal immigration. Pilot projects with Korea and Japan to employ Pakistanis are progressing successfully. During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation to provide employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Poland. The Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment (BE&OE) and the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) registered 727,381 workers for overseas employment in 2024, according to The Economic Survey 2024-25. According to BE&OE, more than 62% (452,562) of Pakistani workers moved to Saudi Arabia for employment, followed by Oman (11%), to earn a living. UAE employed 64,130 Pakistani workers (9%) while Qatar offered jobs to 40,818 individuals (6%). Bahrain and Malaysia hosted 25,198 workers (3%) and 5,790 workers (1%), respectively.

Pakistani rupee registers 10th successive gain against US dollar
The Pakistani rupee maintained its upward trend against the US dollar, with marginal appreciation of 0.01% in the inter-bank market on Thursday. At close, the rupee settled at 281.92, a gain of Re0.03 against the greenback. This was rupee's tenth successive gain against the greenback. On Wednesday, the local unit had closed the session at 281.95. The rupee has maintained a positive trajectory against the greenback in recent days on account of improved sentiment in the currency market amid an ongoing crackdown by law enforcement agencies against illegal currency dealers and smugglers. Internationally, the US dollar drifted on Thursday as investors fretted about the Federal Reserve's independence after yet another attack from President Donald Trump ahead of remarks from Chair Jerome Powell later this week that could influence the outlook for rates. Trump called on Fed Governor Lisa Cook to resign on the basis of allegations made by one of his political allies about mortgages she holds in Michigan and Georgia, intensifying his effort to gain influence over the US central bank. The Japanese yen held onto gains made in previous sessions and was little changed at 147.41 per dollar, while the euro was steady at $1.1642. Sterling last fetched $1.34535. That left the dollar index, which measures the US currency against six other peers, steady at 98.301. Trump has repeatedly criticised Powell for being too slow to cut rates, stoking investor worries about the central bank's independence and its credibility. Oil prices, a key indicator of currency parity, extended gains on Thursday, bolstered by signs of strong demand in the US, with uncertainty over efforts to end the war in Ukraine also lending support. Brent crude futures hit a two-week high in early trade and were up 41 cents, or 0.61%, to $67.25 a barrel at 0637 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 45 cents, or 0.72%, to $63.16 a barrel. Both contracts climbed over 1% in the prior session.

Pakistan tyre maker commissions 2.5MW solar power system at manufacturing facility
Panther Tyres Limited, a Pakistani tyre maker, has commissioned a 2.5MW solar power system at its manufacturing facility, marking a significant step toward renewable energy adoption. The listed company disclosed the development in its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday. 'We are pleased to inform you that Panther Tyres Limited has successfully commissioned a 2.5MW solar power system at its manufacturing facility,' read the notice. The company was of the view that the commissioning would strengthen its energy mix by meeting a considerable portion of its power requirements through clean and renewable sources. 'The initiative reaffirms Panther Tyres commitment to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, operational cost savings, and responsible corporate citizenship,' it added. There has been a growing shift towards alternative energy sources in Pakistan, especially solar, which has become increasingly popular among residential and commercial sectors. This rising trend has left decision-makers grappling with its implications for the national grid and energy sector, as electricity consumption remains stagnant. Nonetheless, several projects have been initiated to exploit this relatively cheaper energy source. Earlier this month, Kohinoor Mills Limited (KML) announced plans of installing a 7.2-megawatt solar power system as part of its push for sustainable operations and cost efficiency. Dewan Cement Limited successfully commissioned a 6 MW solar power system at its manufacturing facility in Karachi. In May, International Steels Limited (ISL), a subsidiary of International Industries Limited, completed and activated a 6.4-megawatt (MW) solar power project at its factory in Karachi. In March, Tariq Corporation Limited (TCORP), engaged in the manufacturing of sugar and its by-products, announced plans to set up a 200KW solar power system at its facility.
