A new lighting system using modern LED technology has been installed inside the three Pyramids of Giza, Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, through a collaboration between the Egyptian and Spanish governments. The initiative was implemented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities as part of an ongoing national strategy to improve archaeological sites and museums according to international preservation standards.
The new lighting setup, which includes eco-friendly 'cool' LED fixtures, was selected to avoid damaging ancient stone surfaces while improving visibility throughout the internal corridors, burial chambers, and other enclosed areas of the pyramids. All scientific and technical studies necessary for the project were conducted prior to the installation to ensure preservation integrity.
A team of Spanish archaeologists and engineers worked alongside Egyptian specialists to deliver a lighting design that balances monument protection with sustainability goals. Throughout the process, the archaeological character of the site has been fully maintained.

Suplyd Raises $2M to Expand Restaurant Procurement Services in Egypt

Suplyd Raises $2M to Expand Restaurant Procurement Services in Egypt Egyptian startup Suplyd, a digital procurement platform serving restaurants, has raised $2 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The round was led by 4DX Ventures, Camel Ventures, and Plus VC, with participation from Seedstars and existing investors. Founded in 2022, Suplyd helps small and medium-sized restaurants manage procurement more efficiently by directly connecting them with suppliers and streamlining order management. The platform is designed to address major inefficiencies in Egypt's $10 billion HORECA (hotel, restaurant, and catering) supply chain, including fragmented sourcing, unreliable deliveries, and lack of price transparency. Since raising $1.6 million in pre-seed funding in 2022, Suplyd has expanded significantly, growing nearly 20-fold in both the number of restaurants served and the value of goods delivered. The company now serves over 5,000 restaurants and continues to develop new backend operational tools tailored for F&B operators. 'Suplyd has become a key enabler in the digital transformation of Egypt's F&B sector, turning a once-fragmented procurement process into a streamlined, tech-driven solution," Hasan Haider, Founder and Managing Partner at Plus VC, said. The new round of funding will support Suplyd's plans to enhance its procurement platform, develop new service verticals, and expand into underserved areas across Egypt. The startup offers restaurants access to hundreds of products through a single digital interface, replacing daily fragmented orders with a consolidated procurement system. Suplyd also provides real-time analytics and procurement insights, aiming to help businesses reduce waste, lower costs, and improve predictability in their supply chains.

Historic Maspero Studio Named After Nobel Prize Winner Ahmed Zewail

The National Media Authority honours Nobel Laureate Zewail with a studio in his name and initiatives in scientific media. Aug 04, 2025 Maspero's historic Studio 45 will be renamed after Dr Ahmed Zewail, as part of a push to revive scientific journalism and improve public understanding of science, according to National Media Authority (NMA) President Ahmed El-Meslamani. Alongside the renaming, NMA announced the launch of 'Kalam fi El-Elm' ('Talks in Science'), a television programme hosted by biophysicist Dr Sameh Saad Ali, founding director of the Center for Aging Studies at Zewail City of Science and Technology. Dr Ahmed Zewail received the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for breakthroughs in femtochemistry - the study of chemical reactions on extremely short timescales. He was the first Egyptian and first Arab to win the award. El-Meslamani also announced an upcoming national symposium, 'The Present and Future of Scientific Media in Egypt', organised by the Maspero Center for Media Studies in collaboration with the Cultural Channel and Cultural Radio Programme. He said the initiatives aim to make reliable, non-specialist scientific content more accessible to younger audiences.
