Suspected hit man 'linked to London gang' arrested after police chase in Costa del Sol

Yahoo4 days ago
A British man believed to be wanted by police in connection with "several murders" has been arrested in Spain's Costa del Sol after crashing his car.
Dramatic images showed the wrecked Nissan Qashqai on a road in Riviera, between La Cala de Mijas and Marbella, with pistols, ammunition and a silencer strewn on the ground.
Local news outlet Diaro Sur reports that the alleged hitman had a confrontation with two Dutch women at a petrol station on Thursday, as he tried to get them to buy him cocaine.
As police arrived at the scene, the suspect got into his car and attempted to make a getaway before crashing his vehicle.
The man is allegedly linked to 'one of London's most dangerous crime gangs" and witnesses say he got out of the car with visible injuries and made one last ditch effort at escaping on foot, before being caught by officers.
Investigators from Policía Local de Mijas have now released images of items seized from the crash.
They include two pistols, ammunition, a silencer, a notebook with names and addresses, as well as a book 'Practical Buddhism and the Search for Self'.
A spokesman from Policía Local de Mijas said: "A British man has been arrested in Riviera who had a warrant out for him ordering his remand in prison for murder.
'While conducting surveillance work in La Cala de Mijas, officers were called to deal with an altercation at a petrol station in the area.
'Upon arrival, they interviewed a customer at the station who stated that a foreign man who had been harassing her had already driven away from the scene.
"Shortly afterwards, a call was received alerting us to an accident on Orfebres Street in Riviera.
'Upon arrival the officers found a damaged vehicle that matched the one involved in the incident at the petrol station.
"The driver attempted to flee when he saw police but was quickly intercepted by the officers.
"Once identified, they verified that he was a British man with a warrant for his arrest and remand in prison for murder.
'He was also carrying several firearms and a large amount of ammunition which were seized."
An investigation is ongoing to determine the man's alleged links with organised crime and he has been detained by the Civil Guard.
The Met Police has been approached for comment.

Families of teens killed in West Sacramento hit-and-run fill courtroom for suspect's first hearing

The man accused of a deadly hit-and-run that killed two teenagers in West Sacramento made his first court appearance on Wednesday. It was an emotional day as the families of Layla Clemmons and Jaea Chatman, both just 17 years old, came face-to-face with the man accused of killing them. "That was my first daughter, she was 17 years old," said Jerry Chatman, Jaea's father. "She just graduated. She was getting her driver's license. That was my baby." "She was very silly and smart and happy," said Stephanie Vallejos, Layla's grandmother. "She was beautiful and had a genuine heart." David Walker, 71 of Fair Oaks, is now facing multiple felony counts, including murder and hit-and-run. Prosecutors allege he consumed 62 ounces of alcohol and then drove through Fair Oaks into West Sacramento intoxicated. They went on to say that Walker left the scene, but eventually came back, without helping the teens he had hit. The judge ordered Walker held without bail, citing the severity of the case. "I'm very thankful to the judge accepting the request to have no bail," Vallejos said. Inside the court, family members wore pink, a favorite color of one of the girls and promised to keep fighting for justice. "I just wanted him to see me," Jerry said. "And whenever he goes to the cell tonight just to see me and I want to let him know we're going to keep showing up." Both families are also calling upon the city to make improvements to the stretch of Jefferson Boulevard where the two teens were riding on when they were hit and killed Saturday. "Why wouldn't you spring into action right now and widen that highway? Maybe these two children would be alive," said Jerel Todd, Jaea's grandfather. "If anything comes good of this situation, it would be that we'd correct that road," Vallejos said. Walker is due back in court Aug. 20 at 1:30 p.m. Both families said they will be there, pushing for accountability and change.

White House plans increase in federal law enforcement in DC over crime as Trump threatens to bring in National Guard

The Trump administration is making plans to increase the federal law enforcement presence in Washington, DC, Thursday and Friday following an assault on a well-known former Department of Government Efficiency staffer over the weekend, three sources familiar with the plan told CNN. Officers from ICE, FBI, National Guard, along with local DHS agents will be part of the federal law enforcement presence, one of the sources told CNN. Local federal agents in the area have been told to be ready to be deployed, the source added. A senior White House official said that the move was not solely because of the assault, but a follow up on the president's 'Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful' executive order. 'The assault just further underscores the need for a greater law enforcement presence in DC,' the official said. 'Washington, DC is an amazing city, but it has sadly been plagued by petty and violent crime for far too long,' Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to CNN. 'President Trump is committed to making our Nation's capital safer and even more beautiful for its residents, lawmakers, and visitors from all around the world.' Sources said the operational details were still being finalized as of Wednesday night. CNN has reached out to the DC mayor's office for comment. Earlier Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he might deploy the National Guard to DC over recent crime. 'We're going to beautify the city. We're going to make it beautiful. And what a shame, the rate of crime, the rate of muggings, killings and everything else. We're not going to let it, and that includes bringing in the National Guard maybe very quickly too,' Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
