TG CM taps Centre, seeks nods for Hyd Metro Phase-II project
New Delhi / Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has requested Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to grant the necessary permissions for the proposed Hyderabad Metro Phase-II at the earliest.
The Chief Minister met with Manohar Lal Khattar at the latter's residence in Delhi on Thursday. During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy briefed the union minister about the importance of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project, which is being taken up on a 76.4 km stretch, to meet the growing requirement of public transportation in the fast developing Hyderabad city. The metro phase-2 will create hassle free commuting by reducing congestion on the roads and also contribute a lot to sustainable development once the project is completed. The CM also informed the union minister that the state government is ready to undertake the project worth Rs 24,269 crore as a joint venture with the central government.
Revanth Reddy reminded Manohar Lal Khattar that the DPR has already been submitted with necessary amendments as per the suggestions of the union urban development minister and requested to grant necessary permissions from other departments, considering the importance of the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II project. HC wants replies from TCP on zone-swap fee waivers
Panaji: The high court has called for replies from the TCP department and the director of vigilance in a PIL seeking to recover fees illegally waived under Section 17(2) of the TCP Act. This waiver was for deleting roads proposed in the regional plan, thereby reclassifying them as settlement areas. The PIL filed by Swapnesh Sherlekar alleged a loss to the exchequer in cases considered for correction of zones. under Section 17(2), where several proposed roads were deleted without the collection of fees and without any statutory basis for such exemption. Among these were properties belonging to TCP minister Vishwajit Rane, who benefited from this unauthorised exemption of fees, the petition stated. In one such case at Carapur in Bicholim, published in the official gazette dated Nov 21, 2024, includes the deletion of a proposed road resulting in 4,214sqm being reclassified as a settlement zone. As per the revised notification, this change should have attracted fees of Rs 1,000 per sqm, amounting to Rs 44.1 lakh, which was improperly waived, Sherlekar submitted in the PIL. 'This should have attracted fees of Rs 150 per sqm (as per rates applicable before March 28, 2024, for areas between 10,000 sqmto 20,000 sqm) amounting to Rs 26.7 lakh, which was similarly waived,' Sherlekar submitted through his advocate, Rohit Bras De Sa. NRHA Urges Full Implementation Of Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024
1 2 Nagpur: The Nagpur Residential Hotels Association (NRHA) urged the Maharashtra govt to fully implement the 2024 Tourism Policy. Renu formally submitted its recommendations and vision document to Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director, Directorate of Tourism, Nagpur. NRHA president Tejinder Singh Renu submitted recommendations, highlighting the need for an integrated strategy. Despite rich tourism potential, Maharashtra underperforms due to slow policy execution. The policy aims to attract Rs 25,000 crore in investments and create 10 lakh jobs. Renu formally submitted its recommendations and vision document to Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director, Directorate of Tourism, Nagpur. NRHA proposes declaring Nagpur as 'Tiger Capital', legalising rooftop restaurants, and launching a tourism app. They also recommend removing the MERC stay on industrial electricity tariff benefits and forming District Tourism Promotion Committees. To track progress, NRHA suggests monitoring tourist footfall, revenue, employment, and hotel occupancy rates. With proper execution, NRHA believes Maharashtra can become a top-3 tourism destination, driving employment, rural growth, and GDP. Parse Keezhadi findings without political pulls
The Keezhadi debate has returned to dominate political discourse in Tamil Nadu. The village in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district, located about 12 km from Madurai, is an archaeological treasure trove. Findings from the site have suggested that an urban civilisation and language was thriving near Vaigai river as early as 580 BCE, upending previously accepted theories regarding the emergence of civilisation in the subcontinent. However, as the latest eruption of controversy suggests, the journey forward from these discoveries has been far from straightforward. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) recently asked the archaeologist who led the first two seasons of excavation at the site to answer some fresh questions and revise the report he had submitted in 2023. Amarnath Ramakrishna, the archaeologist who was transferred out before the third season in 2017, refused to revise his report. As political parties in TN took up the cudgels to defend his report, the Union minister of culture called for more scientific proof to validate the findings. The DMK accused the BJP of attempting to suppress Tamil identity, history and culture, and had its students' wing mount protests demanding the report's release. The contentions hark back to 2017, when Ramakrishna was transferred to Guwahati and the ASI conducted one more season of excavation before stopping work at the site. The next seven seasons of digging were conducted by the state archaeological department.
