Arab News14-04-2025
Quiqup, a UAE-based e-commerce logistics provider, has launched its core fulfillment and delivery services in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in its regional expansion.
This move is backed by the strategic support of the Mohammed bin Rashid Innovation Fund, which has played a pivotal role in helping Quiqup expand its operations and double its business in the past two years.
The company's expansion comes after its notable impact on the UAE's e-commerce ecosystem and aligns with its strategy to offer integrated logistics solutions to businesses across the GCC.
Founded in the UAE in 2017, Quiqup provides comprehensive logistics services, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises. The company offers storage, sorting, packaging, and delivery services. With its expansion into Saudi Arabia, commercial clients in the Kingdom can now access Quiqup's reliable and efficient fulfillment services.

She added: 'Over the past few years, we have worked closely with Quiqup through our Guarantee Scheme and have seen the company's outstanding potential in reshaping the e-commerce logistics sector in the UAE. Its expansion into Saudi Arabia is a testament to its ability to apply its expertise and innovative solutions in new markets. We look forward to supporting its continued growth across the region.'
Bassel El-Koussa, CEO of Quiqup, said: 'Our expansion into Saudi Arabia is a natural next step, driven by our customers' evolving needs.'
With the increasing demand for seamless cross-border logistics solutions, we are proud to extend our services to neighboring markets. We see the GCC as a connected e-commerce ecosystem where operational efficiencies in one market enhance the overall regional performance.'
'By building a robust and integrated platform, we are not only expanding our reach but also contributing to a more efficient and interconnected logistics network. Our strong track record in the UAE serves as a solid foundation for our operations in Saudi Arabia, and we look forward to working with e-commerce businesses in the Kingdom to support their growth and contribute to the local economy,' he added.

Chevrolet and GMC mark GCC record sales with ‘Truck Mania'

General Motors is spotlighting the evolving face of truck ownership in the Middle East as it celebrates a growing market share among its Chevrolet and GMC pickup lineup with a sales rise of 18 percent year on year, unveiling an emerging demographic among youth and women. Marking its record sales, GM has launched the Chevrolet and GMC Truck Mania event across showrooms in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, featuring attractive offers on the popular Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, GMC Canyon and all-electric GMC Hummer SUT. Running from Aug. 13 to Sept. 13, the event offers immersive product experiences. Customers can expect tailored test drives for road and all-terrain, personalized consultations, and seasonal value offers designed to get them behind the wheel in time for the region's most active months outdoors. GM's truck portfolio continues to resonate deeply among GCC nationals — particularly from Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Among younger Emiratis aged 20–29, the GMC Sierra has emerged as a top choice for first-time buyers, reflecting a generational shift in preferences. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Silverado sees robust repeat purchases from Saudi owners aged 30–50, underscoring its enduring appeal and reliability. Furrukh Jawaid, chief marketing officer at General Motors Middle East and Africa, said: 'Off-roading in the Gulf is a rite of passage as youth begin to adopt the lifestyles of their parents, the desert becomes more than terrain and an adrenaline rush. It becomes a tradition. This is evident in the trends we are seeing of youth making up 20 to 35 percent of our customer base in the last few years. Therefore, Truck Mania is bringing GM's most capable trucks to the forefront with compelling offers and experiences that reflect the evolving expectations of today's customers.' While male ownership remains dominant, female ownership is steadily rising signaling a broader cultural embrace of the segment. Over the past three years, female interest and ownership in full-size pickups has more than doubled, driven by increasing demand for safety features, elevated driving positions, flexible utility, and bold design. In 2024 alone, women accounted for 9 percent of all GM truck buyers in the GCC, a notable increase from previous years. Kuwait leads the region with 13 percent of all female truck owners in GM's portfolio, followed by the UAE at 9 percent, and Qatar at 7 percent. A third of GMC Sierra owners in the UAE are middle-aged Emirati women (ages 30–49), and there has been a 50 percent year on year increase in ownership among Emirati women aged 20–29. For Chevrolet Silverado, 19 percent of repeat female customers are over 30, with the majority in the middle-aged Kuwaiti segment. Rohan Fernandes, managing director of commercial operations at General Motors Middle East and Africa, added: 'The growing demand for our world-class pickups from Chevrolet and GMC are visible as we witnessed a surging market share in the first half of 2025 of over 46 percent as we continue to empower more customers across the Gulf to take up off-roading, road-tripping adventures, reconnecting with the outdoors or making use of its capabilities for day-to-day needs. Pickups have grown beyond their traditional role as workhorses to become expressions of style, performance and heritage. Even off-roading has shifted from a practical skill to a deeply-rooted pastime.'

MENA startup funding rises 1,411% mom to $783m

RIYADH: Startup investment across the Middle East and North Africa accelerated sharply in July, with total funding reaching $783 million across 57 deals. The rise marks a 1,411 percent increase from June and more than double the amount raised in July 2024, positioning the third quarter of 2025 for robust regional growth, according to Wamda's monthly report. The increase was driven primarily by two megadeals, highlighting sustained investor appetite for later-stage, high-growth opportunities. Saudi Arabia led regional funding activity, securing $396.5 million across 16 deals, while the UAE followed with $359 million raised in 22 startups. The Kingdom's performance was boosted by three major rounds, including Q-commerce platform Ninja's $250 million raise led by Riyad Capital, propelling it to unicorn status, foodtech startup Calo's $39 million series B extension, and SaaS provider Lucidya's $30 million series B. The funding landscape saw notable shifts among emerging ecosystems. Iraq claimed third place with a single $15 million transaction for InstaBank, moving ahead of the traditional heavyweight Egypt. Morocco followed in fourth, propelled by Ora Technologies' $7.5 million round. Egypt, once consistently in the top three, dropped to fifth place, recording just $4 million in funding across seven startups. Analysts cite macroeconomic headwinds, including currency instability, as contributing factors to Egypt's diminished share. By sector, deeptech overtook fintech for the first time in several months, drawing $250.3 million from four deals. E-commerce matched deeptech in total funding, also raising $250 million, driven by Ninja's record-setting round. Software-as-a-service startups came third, attracting $89 million across 12 deals, while fintech dropped to fourth, with $61 million raised in 11 transactions. 'The shift reflects a growing appetite for IP-heavy, innovation-led ventures and scalable consumer platforms, even as fintech funding cools,' the report stated. Two megadeals — Ninja and XPANCEO — accounted for 56 percent of total funding in July, skewing the overall numbers toward large-scale capital deployments. Series A rounds were notably strong, raising $267 million across three startups. Later-stage deals accounted for $158 million, while 26 early-stage companies raised a combined $36 million. Debt financing represented only 2 percent of the total, reaffirming the continued dominance of equity-based funding in the region. Our vision is to make high-impact technology radically accessible for agents everywhere. Fouad Bekkar, founder and CEO of The investment landscape also saw renewed interest in consumer-focused business models. Business-to-consumer startups captured $534 million in funding, reversing a trend from earlier this year when enterprise solutions and B2B ventures attracted more capital. Business-to-business startups raised $202.4 million across 32 deals, with the remainder distributed among direct-to-consumer and hybrid models. However, the gender gap in venture funding persisted. Startups led exclusively by male founders raised $774.5 million across 43 deals. Mixed-gender founding teams secured $5.8 million, while female-led ventures attracted just $3 million from eight deals. Despite increased visibility of women in entrepreneurship, funding distributions remain uneven, suggesting that systemic barriers continue to limit capital access for women-led startups. With seven months remaining in the calendar year, MENA startup funding has already surpassed the full-year total for 2024. The momentum reflects the region's ongoing transition from nascent to mature innovation ecosystems, with capital flows expanding beyond traditional markets into emerging hubs. The sustained activity signals confidence from global and regional investors alike. 'With Saudi Arabia and the UAE drawing record-breaking rounds, and emerging markets like Iraq and Morocco making surprise appearances in the top rankings, investor interest is diversifying beyond traditional hubs,' the report added. raises $2m pre-seed round A proptech company focused on streamlining lead generation and conversion for real estate professionals, has raised $2 million in a pre-seed funding round. The property market is one of those verticals, with real estate agents spending too much time on non-productive tasks.' international growth strategy is reinforced by a go-to-market partnership with SNPI, France's largest real estate union, representing over 14,800 agencies. In North America, the company has secured its first US-based multiple listing service partner, with pilots expected to launch shortly. Breadfast secures $10m to expand operations Egypt's quick-commerce grocery delivery platform Breadfast has raised $10 million as part of its Series B2 round. The investment was led by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with participation from Novastar Ventures. Founded in 2017, Breadfast has evolved from a bakery delivery service into a full-scale on-demand grocery and household goods provider. The new funding places its valuation between $382 million and $400 million. The company will use the capital to expand fulfilment centres in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, and Mansoura, with plans to enter additional Egyptian cities. Perle uses blockchain infrastructure to provide transparent payments, on-chain attribution, and verifiable work histories for contributors. 'By decentralizing this process, we can unlock global participation, reduce bias, and dramatically improve model performance.' The company's platform supports the full AI development lifecycle, including multimodal data collection, reinforcement learning from human feedback, and assistant fine-tuning. Dubai's Burj Khalifa turns white and green to mark Pakistan Independence Day

ISLAMABAD: Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa lit up with Pakistan's national flag on Thursday evening as the South Asian country marked its 79th Independence Day. Pakistan achieved independence from British colonial rule on Aug. 14, 1947, after the British partitioned the Sub-continent into two independent dominions, Muslim Pakistan and Hindu-majority India. On Thursday, the Pakistani embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shared on X a video of the world's tallest skyscraper turning green and white. 'Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, illuminated with the Pakistani flag on 14 August 2025 to mark Pakistan's Independence Day,' the embassy wrote on X. The UAE is Pakistan's third-largest trading partner after China and the US. The Gulf state is also Pakistan's second-largest source of foreign remittances, after Saudi Arabia, with over 1.8 million Pakistani expatriates living and working there. Separately, Pakistan's Consulate General in Dubai also hosted a flag-hoisting today to mark the 78th anniversary of Pakistan's independence, with a large number of Pakistani community members attending the event. Pakistan's Consul General Hussain Muhammad warmly welcomed the community members and urged them to continue playing a constructive role in the development of both the UAE and Pakistan, according to the consulate. Earlier this week, thousands of people attended Pakistan's Independence Day celebrations at the Dubai Exhibition Center. The event, titled 'Emirates Loves Pakistan,' was organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) and supported by Dubai Police, and featured a colorful mix of music, dance, art, cuisine and community spirit.
