Dog found abandoned on I-275 in Tampa, troopers say

Authorities are investigating after a dog was found in a crate on the shoulder of Interstate 275 in Tampa early Wednesday morning.
A passing motorist spotted the male dog inside a 'cage' on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of the interstate just north of Bearss Avenue, according to a social media post by the Florida Highway Patrol.
One of the photos shows what appears to be the collapsible wire crate in which the dog was found.
'Once again, Florida, we do NOT abandon our furry friends on the side of a highway,' the agency said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Troopers asked anyone who recognizes the dog or knows the owner to call the highway patrol at *347.
The incident was reminiscent of another in Tampa last year that led to a new Florida law.
The act, referred to as 'Trooper's Law,' was introduced in the spring legislative session after a dog was found tethered to a fence along Interstate 75 in Tampa just hours before Hurricane Milton's landfall. The bull terrier was rescued by a Florida Highway patrol trooper and later renamed Trooper. The law makes it a third-degree felony to leave an animal restrained outside during a natural disaster.
