Jake Tapper caught on hot mic during Trump-Putin coverage

"I'm fine, just give me my show back," Tapper said, seemingly expressing his frustration while failing to realize he was live. The hot mic moment was shared on X by conservative NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck. A smiling Cooper then quipped, "Show's back!" Ooops CNN hot mic catches an angry Jake Tapper!! — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) August 15, 2025 'Allison Cooper': Trump calls CNN anchor Anderson Cooper 'Allison' in rant After the awkward exchange, Tapper welcomed Sen. Adam Schiff to the show, but the California Democrat couldn't hear the CNN host. "I think I lost you," Schiff said. Tapper then told the audience that "we're having real comms problems today. I'm sorry about that. If anybody can hear me, let's go throw it back to New York." At that point, Cooper again took over, saying "Okay, Jake, thanks very much." USA TODAY reached out to reps for Cooper, Tapper and CNN for comment. At the Alaska summit, Trump and Putin failed to achieve a major breakthrough in peace negotiations over Russia's war against Ukraine. Tapper occasionally becomes frustrated during on-air coverage. In 2020, Tapper played Lara Trump's remarks at a "Women for Trump" 2020 campaign event about former President Joe Biden during her interview on "State of the Union." "Every time he comes on stage and they turn to him, I'm like: 'Joe, can you get it out. Let's get the words out,'" Trump said. Tapper then asked, "How do you think it makes little kids with stutters feel when they see you make a comment like that?" Trump then responded that she did not know Biden had a stutter, which was a well-documented disability of the then-presidential candidate. "I think what we see on stage with Joe Biden, Jake, is very clearly a cognitive decline. That's what I'm referring to," Trump said. Tapper then shut down the interview, telling Trump that she had "absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody's cognitive decline." In May, Tapper revealed that he had apologized to Trump about the incident. That same month, Tapper and co-author Alex Thompson of Axios released a controversial book "Original Sin" that explored the physical and cognitive decline of Biden during his presidency. The book received significant backlash from certain liberal and center corners of the political spectrum. Contributing: James Powel

Sarah Jessica Parker admits to being 'weepy' as And Just Like That fans savage finale

Fans rallied around Sarah Jessica Parker in support of her final performance as Carrie Bradshaw after critics slammed the And Just Like That finale for being 'underwhelming' Sarah Jessica Parker has confessed she was left feeling "very weepy" after fans rallied to defend her final outing as Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That. ‌ The Sex and the City spin-off concluded this week after four years on air, bringing an end to Parker's decades-long journey as the relationship columnist. But the actress received an outpouring of love from her fans, critics were far less kind, calling the finale "underwhelming" and even a "waste". ‌ The episode, called Party of One, sees Carrie finally accept that she may end up single for good after the death of her husband Mr Big (Chris Noth) and a string of failed romances. ‌ Carrie rewrites the end of her first novel to conclude: "The woman realised she was not alone – she was on her own." Some viewers were happy with this final celebration of female independence, but others were particularly unimpressed by scenes showing Carrie surrounded by a host of new characters at an awkward Thanksgiving dinner, where she had very little interaction with her best friends Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Hannah J. Davies of The Guardian branded the episode "a sad, heavy-handed and far too faecal farewell", while USA TODAY's Patrick Ryan lamented that Carrie spent her final moments "in the company of strangers". Despite that, fans were quick to offer their support for the series finale. Influencer Evan Ross Katz took to Instagram proclaiming: "It was her. It was always her. And no TikTok repudiation or retroactive thinkpiece can take that away. Single and fabulous exclamation point. 'You're worth a million bucks, Bradshaw,' as Big once correctly noted." He continued: "As we say farewell to our million dollar girl (perhaps for forever or maybe just for now), single at long last thank God… take care of that heart, Carrie. (And maybe sell the townhouse.) Ta ta for now." ‌ Parker penned an emotional response to this display of affection for her character, commenting: "Very weepy xxx." Sex and the City first aired in 1998, and became a cultural touchstone thanks to its witty take on love, sex and female friendship. It ran for six seasons, spawned two blockbuster films, and returned in 2021 as And Just Like That. Despite Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones absence apart from a brief appearance in season two, fans were delighted to see Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte back on screens. Showrunner Michael Patrick King has confirmed that the third season was the last, meaning Party of One definitely marked Parker's final appearance on screen as Carrie Bradshaw. But while Bradshaw's journey has come to an end, Parker's career is far from over. The 60-year-old actress is already working on her next project. She will be reprising her role as Sarah Sanderson in Disney's Hocus Pocus 3. Production is underway on the third instalment of the family-friendly franchise, which will also see the return of Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy as Sarah's witchy sisters. The film's release date has not been confirmed yet, but fans may have to wait until at least 2026.

Lil Yachty apologizes to Stephen Jackson over George Floyd lyric

"Put my knee up on her neck, I went George Floyd," Yachty rapped on the song, per Billboard. Jackson condemned the "One Night" rapper in a now-deleted Instagram post, calling the lyric "demeaning" and writing, "Don't ever say his name, bro. None of y'all knew G. Nothing about him." The San Antonio Spurs alum has long been open about the loss of his friend Floyd, revealing in 2020 that the pair grew up in the same Houston, Texas neighborhood. USA TODAY has reached out to Lil Yachty's representatives for comment. Jackson says Yachty apologized for distasteful lyric In an Aug. 14 Instagram story, the "All the Smoke" podcast host later revealed that he is no longer upset with Yachty after the musician reached out and apologized. "I took my post down about Yachty because I'm emotional about George. I apologized to him. We spoke and he apologized as well," Jackson said. "I salute him. Not a lot of people like to own up to when they [expletive] up." Jackson added that he agreed a public apology was unnecessary after the two worked things out, and as Yachty understands the frustration caused by the lyrics. He added that he never had an issue with Yachty directly, but rather the idea of it being okay for people to demean the dead. He later added in an Aug. 15 Instagram post that he won't be discussing the situation in interviews, adding that "he's a smart young man" and "We move on from it."
