Muzammil Bhandh and Nadir Bachani beat their respective rivals to reach the semifinals on second day of the 12th Dr.Essa Lab Ranking Tennis Championship here at Hyderabad Gymkhana courts.
In the ladies singles first round, Naba Bhatti beat Zainab Fatima 8-2 while Sanam Baloch beat Hibah 8-2. In the Juniors under 17 Singles second round Junaid Meher beat Hanzala 8-5 while
Majid Bachani beat Basit 4-0,4-1 and Syed Abdullah beat Ahmed Ali 4-0,4-0 in the under-13 matches.
The prestigious Championship is being sponsored by Dr.Essa Laboratory & Diagnostic Center and being organized by Hyderabad Tennis Association in collaboration with Hyderabad Gymkhana and under the auspices of Sindh Tennis Association.
Earlier, the formal opening ceremony was held on Sunday.Agha Taj, President and Tariq Bajari, Secretary Hyderabad Gymkhana Adv. Arif Siddiqui of Dr. Essa Laboratory were the honorable guests on the occasion.
Sabir Qaimkhanani MNA , Jawed Riar, President HTA, Parwez Ahmed Sheikh of SOA were also present. Secretary Hyderabad Gymkhana Mr.Tariq Bajari announced to hold a Sindh Ranking Tournament this winter.
In the mens singles, Muneer Derbari beat M.EssaJaa 8-1 while Anas Khan beat Sheeraz Bhand 8-5. In the Juniors u 17 Singles 1st Round Junaid Meher beat Abdul Malik 8-3, Hanzala beat M.Hamza Essa jee 8-2, Ali Bachani beat Rayan Zubairi 8-1.

PHOTO: STA Talented Nadir Bachani outplayed Bilal Khan 8 -3 in the final to bag the mens singles title while Naba Bhatti easily beat Sanam Baloch 8-1 to win the ladies singles title in the 12th Dr. Essa Lab Ranking Tennis Championship which concluded at Hyderabad Gymkhana. Nadir, displaying superb range and skills, proved much superior to Bilal who could not match his opponent's speed and fell to defeat. In the ladies contest, the prolific Naba Bhatti dominated throughout with her rival Sanam Baloch proving no match for her. Zainul Abideen Memon, DC Hyderabad was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Prof Dr. Farhan Essa, Dr. Sabiha Essa, Ahmed Ali Rajpoot, Dr Agha Taj Muhammad, Khalid Rehmani and Dr. Saad Baloch addressed the sizeable gathering of fans and several top officials of various sports including Sana Ali from archery, Shakil Sheikh of body building, Seeda Iftikhar of badminton, Rehana Bhatti of HTA among others. In the Juniors Under-17 Singles final, Ali Bachani edged past Junaid Mahar 8-5 in a nail-biting contest. In the Under-13 Singles final Muhammad Ali outclassed Majid Bachani 4--1, 4-0. In the 40-plus Doubles final, the talented pair of Rafi Derbari and Arif overcame a stiff challenge from Jawed Riar and Abdul Majeed Bachani to win 8-6. In the Men's Doubles final, the brilliant duo of Saad Baloch and Anas Khan prevailed over Nadir Bachani and Muzammil Bhand to win 8-3. In his speech, Dr Farhan Essa thanked Hyderabad Gymkhana president Taj and Secretary Tariq Bajari for their all out support for the prestigious tournament. He also praised Muhammad Khalid Rehmani of STA and entire Hyderabad Tennis Association headed by dynamic president Jawed Riar for successfully organizing the tournament. He also announced to continue sponsoring 13th Addition of Dr Essa Lab Tennis in 2026 as well. Dr Agha Taj and Jawed Riar also announced to hold two tennis tournaments later this year. Later, International Rashid Bachani of Hyderabad was also decorated with gifts, trophy and cash awards for outstanding International victories over India at Colombo last week by Prof Essa Jawed Riar.

Pakistanis impress with 6 medals at Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025

Pakistan's Bano Kousar clinched gold in the women's 48-kilogram contact ju-jitsu category at the 2025 Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship, held in Amman, Jordan. Kousar triumphed over India's Richa Sharma in a closely contested final, marking a standout moment for Pakistan in the tournament. Kousar's victory on Day 3 of the competition was a highlight for Pakistani athletes competing in sporting competition across the world. Pakistan had a successful outing overall at the Championship, securing a total of six medals across different categories. The tournament, which featured over 800 athletes from 27 countries, saw Pakistan's athletes deliver impressive performances, earning one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. On the final day of the competition, Muhammad Yousuf and Umar Yaseen clinched silver medals in the U21 Duo and Show Men categories. The duo narrowly lost to Thailand in the final, after defeating Vietnam in the semi-final. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Yousuf and Yaseen, who had previously won gold in the U18 category at the 2024 championship. M. Ali Rashid and M. Yousuf Ali also contributed to the medal tally, earning a bronze in the Duo and Show Men category. Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif rounded off the medal haul for Pakistan, each winning bronze medals in the Duo and Show Women categories. Chairman of the Pakistan Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Khalil Ahmed Khan, expressed his pride in the team's performance. "These medals are not just accolades—they are proof that Pakistani jiu-jitsu athletes meet international standards. We are proud of our athletes, coaches, and support staff who worked tirelessly to achieve this success," he said.
