Greeley PD: Parolee on run from Pueblo found dead in Greeley
According to Greeley Police, around noon on Monday, officers responded to the 2100 block of 7th Avenue, near the intersection of Highways 85 and 34 in Greeley, to assist the Department of Corrections' Parole Fugitive division in tracking down a 26-year-old suspect reported to be on the run from Pueblo.
Greeley PD reported that two weeks before, the man had been named as a suspect involved in a stabbing that occurred while he was in custody serving a sentence related to first-degree assault. At that time, the suspect left the CDOC facility in Pueblo.
According to the police, Parole officers tracked the suspect to his father's house in Greeley and tried to contact him, but he ran inside. The other children and adults in the house exited and left him alone in the home.
Greeley PD stated that around 1:40 p.m., a Reverse 911 text was sent out to the surrounding community advising people to stay in their homes. A search warrant was issued, and Greeley PD attempted to get the suspect to surrender. When they entered the home, they found the suspect in the basement, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to Greeley PD, the Reverse 911 was cancelled around 5:15 p.m.
The name of the suspect will be released by the Weld County Coroner's Office after the family is notified. This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Max Moree at max.moree@greeleypd.com, or call (980) 350-9549.

4 arrested in connection with July 10 shootout between prison staffers, alleged carjackers
Pueblo police recently arrested four men in connection with a July 10 shootout between off-duty Colorado prison workers and alleged carjacking suspects, police announced in an Aug. 4 news release. Quincy Stephens, 20, Damion Trujillo, 20, Marcus Pechek, 19, and Juaquin Trujillo, 19, were arrested on charges of attempted second-degree homicide and aggravated robbery. A 16-year-old male suspect remains at large, according to the release. Police were initially called to investigate after three people were injured when gunfire was exchanged between a group of off-duty Colorado corrections workers and alleged carjacking suspects at the Sgt. Blake A. Harris Skateboard Park in City Park. Pueblo police were made aware of the incident at approximately 2:40 a.m. that day after three people — two of the alleged carjacking suspects and one of the corrections workers — showed up at two local hospitals with gunshot injuries, according to Pueblo Police Department Community Engagement Manager Bianca Hicks. The five Colorado Department of Corrections workers, employees of the Centennial Correctional Facility in Fremont County, were skating, playing football, and hanging out at the park after its curfew when a group of five suspects allegedly tried to carjack one of the workers' vehicles. Shots were then fired by at least one CDOC officer and one suspect, Hicks said, and police later recovered 70 handgun shell casings at the scene. Two of the alleged carjacking suspects were injured by gunfire, as was one of the CDOC workers. Hicks told the Chieftain that the victims transported one of the injured suspects to a local hospital for treatment after the suspect was left behind by the rest of their party when they fled the scene. Stephens and Damion Trujillo remained in custody at the Pueblo County jail as of Aug. 4, while Pechek was released on bond after spending just under six days in custody, police said in the release. Juaquin Trujillo was also released on bond after spending three days in custody. Stephens will make his first court appearance on Aug. 21, Pechek is scheduled for a plea hearing on Aug. 14, Damion Trujillo is scheduled for a bond hearing on Aug. 14, and Juaquin Trujillo is scheduled for a setting on the same day. New Jersey home charred after reported structure fire breaks out, police say
A home in South Jersey is destroyed after authorities say a structure fire broke out Monday afternoon. The home is located in the 200 block of Burning Tree Court in Mays Landing, according to the Township of Hamilton Police Department. Authorities say the 911 call originally reported a house explosion. Chopper 3 was over the scene Monday afternoon, where fire crews could be seen dousing the home with water.
