Microsoft Warns Businesses About Major Security Threat: What The Company Has Said

Microsoft has warned businesses about a major security risk that can allow systems to be attacked to steal data.
Microsoft has issued a major security warning for its business customers about attacks that can directly affect their server systems. The threat is linked to the SharePoint servers running via Microsoft across its enterprise customers. This platform enables organisations to share documents within their network, and leaving them vulnerable could pose major risk for the company and government agencies.
The alert from Microsoft was shared on July 19, 2025 and there is a detailed summary of the issue and how to fix the gaps caused by the attack threats.
The company's threat post says, 'Microsoft is aware of active attacks targeting on-premises SharePoint Server customers by exploiting vulnerabilities partially addressed by the July Security Update."
It seems the security risk is limited to the SharePoint customers at the server end, and those using the cloud version are secure from any possible mishaps. Reports have indicated that Microsoft is worried about the active nature of these attacks that were termed zero-day earlier this week, which means they were unaware about the possible impact of these vulnerabilities and who might be already affected by the issues.
Microsoft's own report says the vulnerability impacts major versions of the SharePoint Server 2010 and 2013 editions. 'Customers using SharePoint Subscription Edition should apply the security update provided in CVE-2025-53771 immediately to mitigate the vulnerability," post adds.
Urgent Need To Upgrade
The most important aspect covered because of these attacks is for companies to immediately invest in upgrading their systems. Microsoft is advising its customers to upgrade to the SharePoint Server 2016, 2019, & SharePoint Subscription Edition that will completely protect them from the latest attacks.
The company has a wide range of its business catering to the affected segment, and not using the cloud-based services tells you the situation on ground that Microsoft needs to overhaul before a major catastrophe like the Crowdstrike outage affects its large business model.

OpenAI to give employees ‘special' million-dollar bonuses amid AI talent wars

OpenAI has announced a 'special one-time award' to its AI researchers and engineers across several departments, including applied engineering, scaling, and safety. The bonuses were announced a day before the Microsoft-backed AI startup unveiled GPT-5, its latest and most advanced large language model (LLM). Over 1,000 OpenAI employees are eligible for the bonus, according to a report by The Verge. While the exact bonus amounts are not known, it will likely depend on the role and seniority of qualified employees with the highest million-dollar payouts reportedly going to OpenAI's prized AI researchers, who already draw salaries worth millions of dollars every year. The engineers, on the other hand, will reportedly receive bonuses amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars on average, the report said. However, these bonuses are not likely to be paid out at once. Instead, it will be disbursed over the next two years with qualified workers having the option to receive the money in OpenAI stock, cash, or both. 'As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we have been looking at comp for our technical teams given the movement in the market,' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was quoted as saying by The Verge. 'We very much intend to keep increasing comp as we keep doing better and better as a company. But we wanted to be transparent about this one since it's a new thing for us,' he added. This is reportedly the first time that OpenAI has offered bonuses to such a large number of employees (about one-third of the company's full workforce). The move comes against the backdrop of a rapidly intensifying war for AI talent. Several companies have poached OpenAI researchers with lucrative offers, and Meta has led the charge. Since the one-time special bonus does not apply to all employees, OpenAI risks losing more workers, who may feel overlooked, to other companies. Mark Chen, OpenAI's research officer, has previously likened Meta's aggressive poaching spree to a home invasion. Shengjia Zhao, one of the creators of ChatGPT, was recently named as the chief scientist of Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). Besides Meta, Elon Musk's xAI has also reportedly been making aggressive offers to lure away OpenAI's top talent. Thinking Machines, an AI rival lab started by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, also comprises several of OpenAI's technical staff. Meanwhile, OpenAI also reportedly plans to allow current and former employees to cash out with millions by selling their vested stock to investors. The ChatGPT-maker is currently valued at $300 billion. However, Altman has reportedly said that employees might be able to sell at a much higher share price than the current $274 per share at a higher valuation of $500 billion, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Voltas shares tank nearly 9 pc after Q1 earnings

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Shares of air-conditioning maker and engineering services provider Voltas Ltd on Monday tumbled nearly 9 per cent after the firm reported a decline of 58 per cent in consolidated net profit for the June quarter. The stock tanked 7.78 per cent to Rs 1,202.20 on the BSE. At the NSE, it dropped 8.65 per cent to Rs 1,192. Voltas Ltd on Friday reported a decline of 58 per cent in its consolidated net profit to Rs 140.61 crore for the June quarter, as unseasonal rains and early arrival of monsoon impacted the cooling business. It had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 335 crore in the April-June period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from the Tata Group firm. The company's revenue dropped by 20.22 per cent to Rs 3,912.29 crore in the June quarter of FY26. In the year-ago period, the same was Rs 4,903.91 crore. 'The quarter was marked by unseasonal and unpredictable weather conditions. The onset of summer was delayed, temperatures remained relatively mild, and the season concluded abruptly due to the early monsoon. 'This resulted in a sharp decline in demand for cooling products, particularly in the case of air conditioners," Voltas said in its earnings statement.
