Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper all withdraw from the Toronto tournament
The No. 1-ranked Sinner cited his injured right elbow, which he hurt in a fall in the fourth round at the All England Club on the way to his first title there and fourth major trophy.
He won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto in 2023.
'Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover,' Sinner said.
Djokovic blamed a groin injury for his withdrawal from an event he has won four times.
Djokovic lost to Sinner in the semifinals at Wimbledon.

Ben Rice hits tiebreaking home run in ninth inning, Yankees beat Blue Jays 5-4
TORONTO (AP) — Ben Rice hit a tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Cody Bellinger also homered and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 on Tuesday. Rice connected off Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman (6-3) for his 15th home run as the Yankees snapped a five-game losing streak against Toronto. Ian Hamilton (2-1) got one out for the win and Devin Williams finished for his 15th save in 16 chances. Addison Barger had two hits and George Springer reached base four times but Toronto's franchise-record home winning streak ended at 11 games. New York led 4-2 before a throwing error by Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe opened the door to a game-tying rally in the sixth. The error was Volpe's 13th, tying him for most in the majors. It was his second error in two games. Pinch hitter Myles Straw reached on Volpe's error and scored when pinch hitter Davis Schneider doubled off left-hander Tim Hill. Jonathan Loáisiga came on to face George Springer, who drove in Schneider with a game-tying single. Making his second career start, Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out three. Toronto's Max Scherzer allowed four runs and five hits in five innings. New York jumped out to an early lead when Chisholm hit a three-run homer off Scherzer in the first, his 18th. Barger hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first, but Bellinger's one-out blast in the fifth, his 18th, made it 4-1. Key moment Rice hit a 389-foot homer on the first pitch he saw from Hoffman. Key stat Schlittler's fastest pitch of the game was clocked at 99.5 mph, one of four he threw above 99 mph. Up next Yankees LHP Max Fried (11-3, 2.43 ERA) is expected to start against Blue Jays RHP Chris Bassitt (10-4, 3.89) in Wednesday's series finale. ___ AP MLB:

Blackhawks Young Goalie Continues To Get Praise
The Chicago Blackhawks are hoping that goaltender Spencer Knight will become something special for them. The 2019 first-round pick undoubtedly has plenty of potential and has shown promise early on, but there is a real expectation that he has not hit his ceiling yet. During this past season split between the Florida Panthers and Blackhawks, Knight put together a 17-16-3 record, a .901 save percentage, and a 2.72 goals-against average in 38 games. Overall, it was a solid year for the youngster, and it will be fascinating to see what kind of season he has as the Blackhawks' starter in 2025-26 from here. In 95 career NHL games over four seasons, Knight has a 49-33-9 record, a .904 save percentage, and a 2.83 goals-against average. Due to his solid play over the year, he has now received more praise. Blackhawks' Spencer Knight is One of the Most Impressive Goalies Under 25 The NHL is full of young talent and the league has been getting younger in recent years. The Chicago Blackhawks have some of that young talent on their team and have impressive players at every position. NHL Fantasy/Edge has named their top 10 goalies who are 26 years old or younger for the 2025-26 season, and Knight was ranked at the No. 8 spot. Knight beat out Joel Hofer of the St. Louis Blues and Leevi Merilainen of the Ottawa Senators on the list. Given how Knight has performed early on in his career, him making this list is entirely fair. The potential for him to have a strong season in 2025-26 is there, and this is especially so if he taps into his potential more. Thus, he could be a good goalie for fantasy hockey managers to bring in once the big-name netminders are off the board. Former Blackhawks Forward Had Monster Year During the 2022 NHL off-season, the Chicago Blackhawks elected not to send forward Dylan Strome a qualifying offer. As a result, he became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) and signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Washington Capitals in July of that year. This was after Strome posted 22 goals and 48 points with the Blackhawks during the 2021-22 season. Photo Credit: © Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images

Venus Williams upsets world No. 35 in first singles match in 16 months, makes WTA history at 45 years old
Venus Williams is healthy again, and still winning matches at 45 years old. The seven-time Grand Slam champion made her return to tennis after a 16-month layoff this week with entries into both the women's singles and doubles draw at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. She began each campaign with a win. Playing alongside Hailey Baptiste, who is nearly half her age at 23 years old, Williams beat Canada's Eugenie Bouchard and American teenager Clervie Ngounoue 6-3, 6-1 in the first round on Monday. Then on Tuesday, she stunned former NCAA champion Peyton Stearns, who is ranked 35th in the world, in a 6-3, 6-4 singles upset. Her last WTA-sanctioned singles win had been nearly two years ago at the 2023 Cincinnati Open. It was the first time Williams notched a win in both women's singles and doubles since 2016 Wimbledon, where she won doubles for her final Grand Slam title. She also became the oldest woman since 2004 to win a tour-level match. Williams' career had previously been in a state of limbo. She was not officially retired, even though her younger sister Serena retired in 2022, but she was also listed as inactive by the WTA. She was spending that time dealing with some health issues, and now feels much better, via AFP: "It's just nice to be able to play. Where I am at this year is so much different where I was at last year. It's night and day, being able to be here and prepare for the tournament as opposed to preparing for surgery a year ago." Williams will face stiffer challenges in both of her next matches in D.C., with No. 5 seed Magadelena French waiting for her in the singles round of 16 and No. 2 seeds Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai in the doubles quarterfinals. Looking ahead, Williams has entered herself into the mixed doubles draw at the US Open alongside Reilly Opelka.
