Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz declines being added to Pro Bowl
The Belly isn't going to Orlando, of his own choice.
Quinn Meinerz, the Denver Broncos' first-alternate guard, was set to be added to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster this week as a replacement player, but he 'respectfully declined,' according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. This will presumably still count as a Pro Bowl nod on Mienerz's resume even though he is not set to participate in the all-star festivities.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, so guards Joe Thuney and Trey Smith have dropped out of the all-star game to focus on preparing for Super Bowl LIX. Meinerz was first in line to be added to the Pro Bowl as a first-alternate guard, but he turned it down.
Meinerz (6-3, 320 pounds) received the third-best grade (87.8) among guards from Pro Football Focus in 2024. He was also named a first-team All-Pro.

Meinerz would have joined cornerback Pat Surtain, pass rusher Nik Bonitto and returner Marvin Mims as Denver's four representatives at the Pro Bowl. The AFC squad will be coached by Peyton Manning in skills competitions on Thursday, Jan. 30 and a flag football game on Sunday, Feb. 2.
The skills competitions will be televised on ESPN and the flag football game will be televised on both ESPN and ABC.

The Jets selected Georgia wideout Arian Smith, who has been the talk of the town at Jets OTAs. Advertisement New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has given high praise to his rookie wideout. Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski tabbed Smith as the draft-day steal at wide receiver after OTAs, high praise for a Day-3 pick. "Raw speed is so tantalizing, because it can be weaponized to tilt the field in the oense's favor. Defenses must take stock of a real speedster on every down and consistently defend all three levels." Sobleski wrote. "Smith has that caliber of speed. He needs to show throughout the summer that he can make the plays available to him. If he does, the Jets will have the type of weapon that should play well with an athletic quarterback in Justin Fields since the defense must account for him running at all times." New Report Suggests Bad News for New York Jets' Breece Hall originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's a new sheriff in town for the New York Jets, with first year head coach Aaron Glenn taking over. Glenn formerly served as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, and it seems as though Glenn is taking some of his Detroit philosophies to New York, which could scream bad news for running back Breece Hall. Advertisement Albert Breer has high hopes for the Jets' offense, but, the way he sees it happening may not work out in Hall's best interests. "The situation there, I think, is better than people realize. The offensive line, behind young tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, has a shot to be really good." Breer wrote. "The run game, behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, should benefit, and get (Justin) Fields in manageable down-and-distance situations consistently. And he's got built-in chemistry with Garrett Wilson, having played together at Ohio State." While the inclusion of second-year back Braelon Allen there doesn't initially mark Hall's situation as bad, Breer later doubled down, saying he believes Allen's role will be "pretty significant." "I mentioned Braelon Allen above." Breer noted. "I think his role in the Jets offense, alongside Hall, could be pretty significant." Advertisement The Lions have deployed a committee approach to their backfield for years to the tune of great success, and it seems as though Glenn will be holding on to that philosophy. Glenn previously stated that the Jets may use such an approach with as many as three running backs, If Breer's report hold trues, the split between Hall and Allen may be much closer to the tune of a 50-50 split than it was last season. Allen took just 92 carries in his rookie campaign, compared to Hall's 209. Hall averaged more yards per carry (4.2, compared to Allen's 3.6). But, Allen had a much higher rushing success rate, with a 51.1 percent mark to Hall's 46.4 percent. The shift could be an early indicator that the Jets will be moving on from Hall after this year, entering the final year of his rookie deal. Or, it's designed to keep him and his legs healthy for a long future with the Jets. Hall suffered a torn ACL in his rookie campaign and had a nagging injury on the same knee to end last season.
