Trent Boult
NEW DELHI: The inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) in 2023 saw international stars light up American grounds with fiery pace and crafty spin, but it was MI New York's
Trent Boult
who stood tall as the undisputed king with the ball.
Boult finished as the season's top wicket-taker by a significant margin, bagging 22 wickets in just 8 matches, playing a pivotal role in MI New York's title triumph. His closest competitors, Cameron Gannon and Andrew Tye of the Seattle Orcas, managed 11 wickets each — exactly half of Boult's tally.

The Orcas had more representation in the top wicket-takers list with Imad Wasim claiming 10 wickets, alongside Washington Freedom's left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, who also grabbed 10.
Who's that IPL player?
Netravalkar's 6 for 9 against Washington Freedom stood out as the best bowling figures of the season, followed by Wayne Parnell's 5 for 20, and Mohammad Mohsin's 4/8 for Texas Super Kings.
Boult's 4 for 20 also featured among the best spells of the season, along with Gannon's 4 for 23.
In terms of economy, MI New York's Nosthush Kenjige topped the charts, conceding at just 5.73 runs per over — the only bowler in the league to maintain an economy below six (min.
24 balls). He was followed by Justin Dill (6.25), Imad Wasim (6.33), Sunil Narine (6.40) and Steven Taylor (6.61).

Preity Zinta made her first public appearance after her team, Punjab Kings, suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final. The actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings was spotted at Mumbai airport looking subdued, just days after the emotional loss. In videos and photos shared online by paparazzi, Preity was seen exiting the airport dressed in a casual grey sweatshirt and jeans. She kept her face partially covered with a black mask and wore a cap to avoid drawing attention, but her demeanour suggested she was still processing the tough defeat. Despite the cameras around, she remained composed and quietly made her way to her car. We have a perfect mix of experience and talent: Gill
As he gears up for his maiden Test series as the captain of the Indian team, Shubman Gill knows that he has big shoes to fill in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from the format recently. But the youngster is looking forward to the challenge. 'The pressure is there on every tour. These (Kohli and Rohit) were two big players who had won so many matches for India, so it is difficult to fill their shoes. But the pressure is no different, and we are all used to playing in pressure situations and are aware of how to win,' Gill said on Thursday. 'The batting and bowling combination in our team is very good. We have a perfect mix of experience and talent.' Having led the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League over the last couple of seasons, Gill understands that a clear communication with the players is the key to success. 'I wouldn't say that there is a particular style that I would like to follow, but the more you play, the more experience you get. I like communicating with the players, making them feel secure and providing them that comfort. Building a bond with the players is very important, and if you are the captain of a team, you have to do this,' Gill said, adding: 'If your players feel very secure, then only they can give you their 100 per cent.' Leading up to the series, he practised with Dukes ball on the sidelines of the IPL. However, he has yet to decide his batting position. 'We have a tour match in London, so we still have time to decide on the batting order,' he said. Coach Gautam Gambhir, however, admitted that the pressure always mounts up ahead of every series because the goal remains to win. The series will also see the return of Karun Nair, and Gambhir admitted that if one performs well in domestic cricket, the doors of the national team are never shut. Asked whether Shreyas Iyer could be called up, the coach said, 'Anyone can be called if they are in good form.'
